The employees here treat their clients and patients with care and patience. They were all so kind in helping figure out what happened in our situation. I've noticed each employee met with every pet with so much kindness, you can tell they are all gifted and love their job! The cost of a foxtail removal was very reasonable. Words simply cannot express the wonderful care the Murphy Pet Hospital staff provided for my pet, Alejandra. Dr. Wilson, Angel, and Sam treated her with so much love and compassion, and they truly made me feel at ease knowing they would care for her as if she were their own throughout her visit and procedure. Dr. Wilson and Sam took the time to thoroughly explain everything to me and patiently addressed all of my questions and concerns. Their kindness, professionalism, and genuine dedication mean the world to me. I'm incredibly grateful for the exceptional care Alejandra received. read more

Daisy didn't make it to her appointment, she passed away on a Saturday. I was calling humane society to ask about cremation. No answer. I called Murphy Pet Hospital.. no answer. But they called me back.. I didn't leave a message either. I am forever grateful they cared enough to call me back at this heartbreaking time. They took care of details... thank you. read more

Murphy Pet Hospital - Daisy. January 8, 2016. - March 8, 2025 - Veterinarians Near Me - Sunnyvale, California

This practice has sadly gone downhill. We had been patients since 2018 with our first dog. We got a new puppy in 2025, and took her into Murphy Pet Hospital a few times. Our last visit, sadly with the guest vet, had zero patience with our nervous puppy, and physically forced her into the positions the vet wanted her in, scaring the puppy enough to wet herself (twice!). Almost a full year later, and our puppy is still absolutely terrified of going to ALL vets! Positive experiences in scary situations, such as at the vet, are so incredibly important for puppies, but the guest vet does not subscribe to that method of thinking and instead traumatized my puppy. We're continuing to work very hard to make going to the vet a more positive experience, but have not made much progress as we're outside that big socialization period. I would highly suggest finding a vet that believes in promoting positive experiences at the vet instead of fear tactics. Prior to seeing the mean vet, my puppy was previously fine (slightly nervous but completely manageable) including with Dr. Hanken and Dr. Wilson, and completely fine getting shots at the HSSV. But she unfortunately was seen by a provider who has no patience for young, nervous animals. Although her prior experiences here were fine, I can't trust a practice that would hire such an uncaring and inpatient vet and trust said vet with animals. If this vet is fine scaring a puppy (a baby!) into peeing herself, God help any other animal she "treats". read more

What do you do when your 20-year-old stops eating? Stan stopped eating Fancy Feast pate food, only licking the food. I tried giving him Friskies shreds, Fancy Feast gravy food, even Gerber baby food. I even strained the Friskies shreds, giving him the liquids. Mixed pate food with water to form a gruel. Stan's weight dropped 10% in 13 days. Aug 24 made an appointment by phone to bring him into Murphy Ave. Pet Clinic. Took both my wife and I to corral Stan and put him struggling into the cage. Probably the fastest 20-year-old cat around. The 10-pound cat is still plenty mobile and has sharp claws and knows our 2500 square foot house inside out from the last 7 years of house arrest. Stays out of the bedrooms and sticks to the living room which has multiple furniture to hide behind and under. Introduced Stan to Dr. Jenny Hsu. Never saw Dr. Sawyer. Spent $1036 on shots, blood tests, x rays in 1 hour, including a $474 senior cat array of shots. X rays showed an enlarged kidney. Severe tartar buildup on his teeth. Spent $60 on four 8 oz bottles of Royal Canin Recovery Treatment liquid for senior cats losing weight. Only problem was getting him to drink the high calorie nutritious liquid, as we had to catch him, and one person wrapping him up in a blanket, and another prying open his mouth for the injecting the liquid from a tube. Sept 6 spent another $1245 on an appointment for ultrasound. They apparently contract this out to a place in Santa Cruz. All day event. The ultrasound revealed no signs of cancer, but Doctor Hsu said the cat had both kidney disease and heart disease. I asked about life expectancy, and the doctor said maybe 1-2 months. Only hope was to see a heart specialist. They put a towel in the cage for transport back home. Most expensive towel ever. Stan stayed active, going up and down the stairs indoors, enjoyed the sun, purring next to me in bed at night, and hissing at dogs on leashes walking on the sidewalk, when looking out the open screened 2nd story window. Normal behavior and instincts but still not eating solids. This morning he passed away from heart failure at 3am, sleeping next to me on the bed. Should have put a plastic tarp under the bottom sheet, and had to wash both sets of bed padding, in addition to the two sheets and cover, as his bladder emptied when he passed. Stan saved me from spending another $168.68 to euthanize him (owner takes body home), a requirement when we leave for vacation next week. $400 to euthanize and cremate him, with ashes in an urn. And this place is rated by Checkbook Bay Area as the least expensive veterinarian in the South Bay! read more

3/1/2025 Misdiagnosis that caused my dog additional pain and suffering which would not have happened if I had gone to a different pet hospital like MedVet. They were able to diagnose and treat his issue within the first few minutes of his exam. Don't waste time and lots of money going to Murphy Pet Hospital. I really wish I hadn't!!! MedVet is a far superior facility with knowledgeable vets and vet techs. 100 % I really thought Murphy Hospital would be completely outfitted with the best and latest equipment for testing and diagnosis but the x-rays, blood and urine samples were sent out for "experts" to interpret and days later after I paid another vet to repeat the same tests, I finally got some of the results from Murphy Hospital. Do not be fooled by the shiny new expensive facade of this clinic! Not worth it!!! read more

Murphy Avenue & Dr. Sawyer are great when you have pre-booked, non-emergency appointments, but you're out of luck if you have any emergencies. Dr. Sawyer is technically our main vet, but both times this year, when we have had emergencies, Murphy Avenue Pet Clinic could not fit us in. The second emergency actually happened yesterday. We had noticed our dog having mucus/watery stools, and knowing that his first emergency a few months back was because of an inflamed stomach, we were rightly worried. We called Murphy Avenue and they had no room for us and all they could do was have us drop off a stool sample, which we did. My dog progressively got worst and we called back again, but were once again told they couldn't fit us, so we ended up taking him back to the previous ER that saw him months ago. Good thing we did because, as we feared, there was inflammation in his stomach like last time, but also his colon this time and he had to be kept overnight. My dog is still there now as I write this review because I wish, as my main vet, there was more collaboration and the ability to discuss a plan for treatment or just availability even to see my dog in the first place. Instead, my dog is still in the ER and all we get is a text from Murphy Avenue today saying his "fecal results came back negative for any parasites or their eggs. Hope Soju is feeling better now." He most certainly is not feeling better. I love Dr. Sawyer when we are able to see him even if he is pricey because he has always treated my dog well, but there has been no help when we have emergencies, which makes me feel conflicted about Murphy Avenue Pet Clinic. read more

I highly recommend Murphy Pet Hospital. They have taken excellent care of our pets. The Doctors and staff are friendly, skilled and professional. They've seen our dogs for both routine appointments and emergency visits. They were quick and well-equpped to take care of our needs. It's obvious to me that they have a great work environment which they pay forward to their patients with their great bedside manner. We couldn't ask for a better veterinary experience for our dogs and ourselves. :) read more

Just brought Leon in for a check up. He was sneezing and clear discharge from his left eye. He stopped sneezing when I brought him into my room but the discharge was still there. He was eating fine until yesterday which is why I brought him in. He doesn't seem to have a stuffy or runny nose. I used their website to request an appointment (super convenient!) early this morning for tomorrow and received a call back a few hours later saying they have an opening later today. Considering how all the vets have been impacted by Covid, I was grateful they were able to give me a spot so quickly. Dr. Sawyer believes the likeliest cause is allergies and prescribed some ointment hoping the steroid will bring down inflammation in his eye. Other than that Leon was being his usual adorable self making everyone laugh rolling on the floor. I've included pictures of him with Dr. Sawyer for your viewing pleasure. read more

My older cat (12) was recommended a teeth cleaning. I was shown how awful his gum line looked, so I agreed. He had previously never had a procedure like this before, since his former owner never took him to the vet. I'll outline the experience here: - before ANYTHING, they wanted to run a series of tests to ensure that he's healthy enough to withstand the procedure and the anesthesia. I let them do all the tests they recommended, which without pet insurance was $1000+. All results came back in a timely manner, and he was cleared to get his dental cleaning. - I was then shown a thorough breakdown of the cost of the procedure, along with notes on how the cost would change (possible extractions and the like). They also emailed this document to me for my own records. The cost summary was brought up the day of the procedure, and it was a match to the original invoice. This ended up being $900-ish, all told. - dropped off my cat at 7:30am, picked him up 5:30pm (last in line that day) Woozy, and angry after the pain meds wore off. But after following the vet's advice (new diet of wet food for 2 weeks, pain meds, etc.) his recovery was smooth. I was updated throughout the day of surgery, and all questions from my partner and I were answered with patience and understanding. - the follow-up appointment (3 weeks post-cleaning) confirmed that his mouth was looking great! In and out in ten minutes, and there was no charge for the follow-up appointment since all they did was take him and look in his mouth. Is it expensive to provide this level of care for your pet? Yes. But this is also the best level of care this cat has ever received, and also the happiest he has been in his little cat life. And now he can be fat and eat his kibbles and play and sleep without a broken tooth, abscess or other danger looming just around the corner. I will not lose another pet to cheap and poor veterinary care, like I have before to another practice (not in the area). Also, best parking for a veterinary practice. Being right next to a big free parking garage with 300+ spots means I don't have to compete for space when I arrive for an appointment. read more

The team at Murphy Pet Hospital was kind, compassionate, and professional. I brought my cat, Bloo, in for a routine check up and renewal of his prescription cat food. This was all done within 30 minutes from front desk to meeting the doctor. The interior of the clinic is flawless and they have lots of A/C. The free parking garage is located directly next door which made parking a breeze. I recently acquired a kitten. So I did what any good pet owner would do, started researching vets. I have seen this place for the better part of 10 years and had called other vets. I found that the pricing was competitive and reasonable at Murphy Ave Pet Clinic. I read the reviews and more importantly the responses from Dr. Sawyer, which is ultimately what sold me on this place. I liked the fact that Dr. Sawyer is direct. When it comes to my family, which now includes a 2.5 month old kitten, I do not want to have to be guessing about my next steps in his healthcare. I enrolled in the Kitten package which is $280 and includes: All required vaccinations Micro-chipping Deworming at every visit 3-4 visits with the Dr. (depending on age) Feline Leukemia and Aids bloodwork I have had 3 appointments so far and I have no complaints. You call when you arrive and someone will come out and take your pet and the Dr. will come out with his folding chair and sit (6 feet away from you) and discuss your pet with you. So far, I am impressed... read more

VERY PREJUDICE, DISRESPECTFUL, RUDE and, not apologetic at all, bad customer service accross the board, yelling at me while other clients can hear, and I had to raise my voice but finally left after I realized they were causing me anxiety and wasting my time. Dr. Sawyer amd the receptionist are rude. They all need to be replaced with customer service oriented people. I was running late to my 8AM appointment and was told over the phone, "if you can make it in 10 minutes we will see you. I made it by 8:12 AM due to the railroad track coming from Downtown Sunnyvale. We went to the front desk but my puppy accidentally peed so the front desk lady proceeded to clean up the accident but did mention we would still be seen just in between appointments. Aother couple just came in for their appointment at 8:15AM. While another front desk lady just sat there not helping, theirs names were Olivia and Michelle. I noticed that the other receptionist gave paperwork to the 8:15 appointment so I asked if I needed paperwork as well. The receptionist cleaning the accident said yes, after she's done cleaning the accident. 8:15 Mochi was being cared for and we were still waiting so I asked how many doctors were available. They said 1 but I haven't seen 1 yet, only the 2 technicians helping Mochi. They were talking about pooh samples so I told them I was gonna step out to get fecal sample while we waited on the doctor and if they can have the paperwork ready since the doctor hasn't came put to see us yet or even put in a room or given any paperwork to get started. I came back asked if the doctor was ready yet and they finally had the paperwork on the front desk. While I was filling out my paperwork the doctor finally came out to tell me. That we had only 5 minutes left for our appointment and i would have to reschedule and I would not be reimbursed for my $85 plus we had to reschedule. I explained what happened, he didn't care and was focused on not seeing us for our appointment and the $85 that he wasn't going to reimburse. I felt attacked in so many levels. I sensed a bit of prejudice from the doctor and the receptionist that was cleaning up my puppies accident. The bottom line is I left, I will never go back to this clinic, I will tell everyone I know that has a puppy Downtown Sunnyvale my whole experience at this clinic and for them to tell everyone we know because I would not give my money nor have my puppy around this type of people or environment. https://www.bbb.org/file-a-complaint read more

I came to this clinic because my dog needed to get her rabies shot, and I wanted to find something convenient ( close to home/ work ). All the other local clinics were not taking new patients, so my options were limited. This place is a disappointment. The staff is unprofessional, underqualified, and rude. They don't communicate with each other and is very unorganized. All 3 visits was an issue. Visit 1: The staff double-charged me on my bill. I called the front desk and asked them to reimburse me for the extra charge, but they seemed very confused, so the manager had to step in. The disappointing thing is, we didn't get the rabies shots. The doctor did his examination and advised she has allergies and recommended we give her allergy shots to relieve them. I noticed the rabies vaccine wasn't included invoice. Apparently he wasn't aware of the overdue rabies shot since the front desk didn't communicate it to him. Visit 2: My dog finally got the rabies shot plus a nail trim. I was quoted $25 for a nail trim, but was charged $44. When I asked why I got a premium price, they said my dog moved a lot and needed a second person to hold her. The manager said, "the staff is certified for low-stress handling." My dog is a sweet little bichon poodle, she's only 15 pounds. You would think they have enough training to handle it. Since I was not informed of the fee prior, they will remove it from the bill and charge me the correct quoted price of $25. Visit 3: This was the last straw. They gave my dog the wrong vaccines! It was the same vaccines she had a month ago! The front desk printed the wrong invoice. I told them I was certain this invoice was incorrect because she already had her rabies vaccine and two shots last month. I advised them to review the history to confirm the correct vaccines are scheduled for today. She returned with the same invoice and marked the treatment as "declined." She continue to argue with me in the lobby. Her name is Olivia. Be careful with her. For her to insist she checked the history and still made a mistake is suspicious. That tells me she is untrained and/or careless. I expressed this to the manager, and she explained that the reason for this error was that they forgot to update the notes in the system. WOW! The only reason I came back for my 3rd visit was that the manager was very apologetic about the two visits and advised she would have a staff meeting and discuss this with her team. It sounds promising, right. No. Because it happened again! It's clear that the staff doesn't learn from their mistakes. It's probably because they know there is no real punishment. Just a slap on the wrist. SMH. I got a full refund for my visit, but it's expected since they gave my dog the wrong vaccines. Now I have to find a new clinic, pay the initial fee, explain to them what happened and pray that there are no harmful side effects from this incident. Worst of all, my dog has to go through two more shots. As a pet owner, you would agree that seeing your dog in pain hurts you. Don't take the risk of coming here. read more

Very safe during Covid. Lots of parking. Dr. Sawyer is very helpful and knowledgeable. The staff is also very friendly Only complaint I have is the price but to be fair, I haven't really been to vets around this area so I don't have much to compare to. I feel very comfortable taking my cats here. The doctors never tell me to get something unnecessary and are very clear about what they think might be going on. One of my cats knows them and feels comfortable there, even going up and trying to get attention from Dr. Sawyer while he was trying to talk to me at one point. My other cat is very anxious when she goes to the vet and needs anxiety medication to go in. Everyone tries their best to keep her calm and is very understanding of her anxiety. The entire staff all are very respectful of the animals and clearly care of their well-being. I attached a picture of one of my cats (the less anxious one) relaxing on a chair in the exam room after getting her vaccines. read more

Our cat got sick really fast and we wanted to put her down ASAP so she wouldn't suffer. We called around several vets but none had same-day appointments. We just took in a new foster pup recently. He needed to get vaccinated before we could sign him up for training. We wanted a local vet because our previous one was 30 mins away (driving) and we don't want the long car ride to stress him out further. The pup has a severe fear of clinic and being approached by strangers and would act out. We had to make multiple visits to get the shots done because he was too stressed out. During the process, the vet and staff are very helpful and patient with the problem child and tried not to stress him out further. We finally managed to get the vaccines he needed. Hopefully, he will make progress before the next visit. Highly recommended! read more

I have always received warm, friendly, competent service from Dr. Sawyer. I have been taking my pets to Murphy Avenue Pet Clinic for 20 years. I highly recommend Dr. Sawyer! read more

Friendly and caring, and a high standard of care. I'd give 5 stars if they were able to provide overnight boarding for animals that need observation, or had as much high-tech care as I was used to in NYC. They've recently relocated from a freestanding building to a downtown storefront; there is convenient free parking in a ramp with an entrance next to the office, and a curbside area of plantings that works for the last-minute canine bathroom stop, although it's rather narrow and deep. While Dr. Sawyer remains as senior veterinarian, the care team is headed by 2 other vets. Our dog loved Dr. Hanken (our previous dogs loved Dr. Sawyer, but this dog never forgave him for being a vet) and the new location is larger and therefore calmer. At the previous location, paperwork and payment always took ages while the dog freaked out; hopefully a new computer system has fixed that. read more

If you want a super unprofessional, inexperienced staff and rude doctor this is the place for you! The first issue I have with this place is the wait time I bring my dogs early to every appointment yet I'm waiting 40 minutes to an hour every single time and they always use the excuse of oh sorry we are short staffed. Secondly I took my French bulldog to get fixed here and I just had surgery So I told the doctor specifically I only want him to get neutered nothing else my husband will be bringing him and handling it but all communication needs to go directly through me because I could not be there physically since I was recovering from surgery. They took advantage of the situation and added an extra procedure onto the quote that I never saw because I was again recovering from surgery and said my husband approved it well he's a man and didn't look at the quote because he assumed the quote had only the procedure I specifically asked for on it. When I picked up my dog and saw that his nose had been sewn up I was furious because I never approved this procedure to be done because he did not need it. Secondly I called last Thursday to make an appt because I was worried they had kennel cough. I was told they need to be seen in person and the next appointment they had was the following week so I waited a week brought them in the doctor then try to tell me they're going to charge me $160 per dog because it was a last minute squeezing and I told them I am not paying that because you guys did not tell me that's how much the charge would be when I book the appointment a week ago. I asked them about 20 times to write me a letter stating that my dogs are not contagious and healthy because I need the letter for their doggy daycare center. The doctor himself told me he refused to write me the letter and I am no longer a customer at his clinic. The staff is truly the definition of unprofessional I would never trust them with my animal again I highly advise you to look elsewhere they are low budgeted cheap unprofessional and truly awful and do not care about the animals they are only trying to collect a check. read more

I took my dog for a cyst on his back. They were fast to our needs. The doctor was very informative

The doctor was good thus I gave a star for them. When I called for teeth cleaning appointment, they told me it's free to check with the doctor before doing it. Thus I thought it's cool and went there to see how much they would charge for teeth cleaning. When I arrived, the doctor was excellent and asked me if there is anything else? That's it? Then the receptionist charged me $65 even they said it's free to check for teeth cleaning!! And more charge... the estimate for teeth cleaning was $833.20 !! I went back to my old place for $200 teeth cleaning after all. I wanted to go here because it's close to my home. NO WAY!!! Then I went for my cat's visit. My cat was depressed over another her favorite pet passed away and developed hemorrhoid. She became better 1 hour before my appointment. I didn't want to cancel that in the last minute for courtesy. They estimated $1046.20!!!! Very money-hungry place!!! Again all doctors seemed great here. But the motto of this place is to maximize the profit over your poor animals. You can tell by the operator answering all messages here to boost their image up. There are too many staffs hanging around the desk, and you pay for their wage. I told the doctor that I didn't need to come here as my cat was recovering, but I came here to keep the appointment to be nice. I told her to make 2 invoices; one was for this visit, another one was an estimate of all that she thought my cat needed. She agreed. All my cat needed was fluid admin and lactulose. But the front desk staff added everything they could think of to add costs to maximize benefit out of almost recovered cat!! They added X-Ray, Injection, Labs etc... for $1046.20! Then the girl who brought the bill to me said, "this is what we are going to do with your cat today." Hell no! I told the doctor my cat didn't need to come here to start with and asked to charge for just a hello visit. The girl said, it's fine and went back to front and told them I would just pay for the visit today. And I heard, "she doesn't do all treatment?!! she doesn't want to pay?! wow! etc." I WAS TREMBLING WITH ANGER... They added things that even the doctor didn't mention to the estimate. I called Petco and told them about my cat's condition. They recommended an item for digestive upset homeopathy med for $17.99. I got it, and my cat was TOTALLY fine in 2 days!!! The fact: this could have been just a $17.99 treatment, but they didn't care about my pet and wanted to charge $1045.20 to maximize their profit. I am still mad at their practice. The voices I overheard at the front desk remained in my ears forever!! They sounded like I am a terrible pet owner who does not pay $1046.20!! The fact was, I was the best owner who kept the appointment even though my cat was already okay, and I just kept my appointment for courtesy. I like to treat animals with love and less invasive way possible. TO ALL PET OWNERS, if you love your pet, find a place with less staff hanging around at the front desk. You would be the one who will pay for staffs who only care to maximize the profit out of your poor animals. I WILL NEVER COME BACK HERE. read more

Update- after a personal message and phone call from Dr. Sawyer himself after my initial review... I have to say that this place definitely cares about the health of your pet. Not sure what the tech mishap was but i can confirm it was not the fault of Murphy Ave Pet Clinic. We took our pup to another vet to test for Giardia and was given OK instruction/treatment... but not really up to the standard i felt was appropriate/comprehensive. After speaking with Dr. Sawyer, we already have a treatment plan and are going to see him several times over the next few weeks to make sure our pup is better/the Giardia is completely gone. I'm super pleased already. He was clear and concise in his explanation and plan and i feel very confident in Kobe's treatment. Also want to mention that i really like Dr. Sawyer's communication style- i feel like i can be myself when i talk to him and he just "gets it," if that makes sense. Smart and personable- two thumbs up. read more

Culo has been going to Murphy Avenue Pet Clinic since I got him from the Humane Society in the summer of 1997. He's only had the one neighborhood pet hospital his whole life.
