Words simply cannot express the wonderful care the Murphy Pet Hospital staff provided for my pet, Alejandra. Dr. Wilson, Angel, and Sam treated her with so much love and compassion, and they truly made me feel at ease knowing they would care for her as if she were their own throughout her visit and procedure. Dr. Wilson and Sam took the time to thoroughly explain everything to me and patiently addressed all of my questions and concerns. Their kindness, professionalism, and genuine dedication mean the world to me. I'm incredibly grateful for the exceptional care Alejandra received.

Daisy didn't make it to her appointment, she passed away on a Saturday. I was calling humane society to ask about cremation. No answer. I called Murphy Pet Hospital.. no answer. But they called me back.. I didn't leave a message either. I am forever grateful they cared enough to call me back at this heartbreaking time. They took care of details... thank you.

Dr. Jenny Hsu meets my late 20-year-old cat
    Robert C.

What do you do when your 20-year-old stops eating? Stan stopped eating Fancy Feast pate food, only licking the food. I tried giving him Friskies shreds, Fancy Feast gravy food, even Gerber baby food. I even strained the Friskies shreds, giving him the liquids. Mixed pate food with water to form a gruel. Stan's weight dropped 10% in 13 days. Aug 24 made an appointment by phone to bring him into Murphy Ave. Pet Clinic. Took both my wife and I to corral Stan and put him struggling into the cage. Probably the fastest 20-year-old cat around. The 10-pound cat is still plenty mobile and has sharp claws and knows our 2500 square foot house inside out from the last 7 years of house arrest. Stays out of the bedrooms and sticks to the living room which has multiple furniture to hide behind and under. Introduced Stan to Dr. Jenny Hsu. Never saw Dr. Sawyer. Spent $1036 on shots, blood tests, x rays in 1 hour, including a $474 senior cat array of shots. X rays showed an enlarged kidney. Severe tartar buildup on his teeth. Spent $60 on four 8 oz bottles of Royal Canin Recovery Treatment liquid for senior cats losing weight. Only problem was getting him to drink the high calorie nutritious liquid, as we had to catch him, and one person wrapping him up in a blanket, and another prying open his mouth for the injecting the liquid from a tube. Sept 6 spent another $1245 on an appointment for ultrasound. They apparently contract this out to a place in Santa Cruz. All day event. The ultrasound revealed no signs of cancer, but Doctor Hsu said the cat had both kidney disease and heart disease. I asked about life expectancy, and the doctor said maybe 1-2 months. Only hope was to see a heart specialist. They put a towel in the cage for transport back home. Most expensive towel ever. Stan stayed active, going up and down the stairs indoors, enjoyed the sun, purring next to me in bed at night, and hissing at dogs on leashes walking on the sidewalk, when looking out the open screened 2nd story window. Normal behavior and instincts but still not eating solids. This morning he passed away from heart failure at 3am, sleeping next to me on the bed. Should have put a plastic tarp under the bottom sheet, and had to wash both sets of bed padding, in addition to the two sheets and cover, as his bladder emptied when he passed. Stan saved me from spending another $168.68 to euthanize him (owner takes body home), a requirement when we leave for vacation next week. $400 to euthanize and cremate him, with ashes in an urn. And this place is rated by Checkbook Bay Area as the least expensive veterinarian in the South Bay!

The cat in question who received the procedure, Lucky. Veritable good boy. Squirmy and purrs too loud for the stethoscope.

My older cat (12) was recommended a teeth cleaning. I was shown how awful his gum line looked, so I agreed. He had previously never had a procedure like this before, since his former owner never took him to the vet. I'll outline the experience here: - before ANYTHING, they wanted to run a series of tests to ensure that he's healthy enough to withstand the procedure and the anesthesia. I let them do all the tests they recommended, which without pet insurance was $1000+. All results came back in a timely manner, and he was cleared to get his dental cleaning. - I was then shown a thorough breakdown of the cost of the procedure, along with notes on how the cost would change (possible extractions and the like). They also emailed this document to me for my own records. The cost summary was brought up the day of the procedure, and it was a match to the original invoice. This ended up being $900-ish, all told. - dropped off my cat at 7:30am, picked him up 5:30pm (last in line that day) Woozy, and angry after the pain meds wore off. But after following the vet's advice (new diet of wet food for 2 weeks, pain meds, etc.) his recovery was smooth. I was updated throughout the day of surgery, and all questions from my partner and I were answered with patience and understanding. - the follow-up appointment (3 weeks post-cleaning) confirmed that his mouth was looking great! In and out in ten minutes, and there was no charge for the follow-up appointment since all they did was take him and look in his mouth. Is it expensive to provide this level of care for your pet? Yes. But this is also the best level of care this cat has ever received, and also the happiest he has been in his little cat life. And now he can be fat and eat his kibbles and play and sleep without a broken tooth, abscess or other danger looming just around the corner. I will not lose another pet to cheap and poor veterinary care, like I have before to another practice (not in the area). Also, best parking for a veterinary practice. Being right next to a big free parking garage with 300+ spots means I don't have to compete for space when I arrive for an appointment.

Dr. Sawyer having a photoshoot with Leon
    Sam H.

Just brought Leon in for a check up. He was sneezing and clear discharge from his left eye. He stopped sneezing when I brought him into my room but the discharge was still there. He was eating fine until yesterday which is why I brought him in. He doesn't seem to have a stuffy or runny nose. I used their website to request an appointment (super convenient!) early this morning for tomorrow and received a call back a few hours later saying they have an opening later today. Considering how all the vets have been impacted by Covid, I was grateful they were able to give me a spot so quickly. Dr. Sawyer believes the likeliest cause is allergies and prescribed some ointment hoping the steroid will bring down inflammation in his eye. Other than that Leon was being his usual adorable self making everyone laugh rolling on the floor. I've included pictures of him with Dr. Sawyer for your viewing pleasure.

I left a very detailed message on Monday about my puppy and making an appointment to come in ASAP, but have received zero return calls as of 4:20pm Friday. I stated my phone number probably 4 different times at the beginning and end of the message in case their call ID didn't pick it up. If it takes that long to get a call back when my puppy is very ill, and I'm that worried~ I'll look elsewhere.

I came to this clinic because my dog needed to get her rabies shot, and I wanted to find something convenient ( close to home/ work ). All the other local clinics were not taking new patients, so my options were limited. This place is a disappointment. The staff is unprofessional, underqualified, and rude. They don't communicate with each other and is very unorganized. All 3 visits was an issue. Visit 1: The staff double-charged me on my bill. I called the front desk and asked them to reimburse me for the extra charge, but they seemed very confused, so the manager had to step in. The disappointing thing is, we didn't get the rabies shots. The doctor did his examination and advised she has allergies and recommended we give her allergy shots to relieve them. I noticed the rabies vaccine wasn't included invoice. Apparently he wasn't aware of the overdue rabies shot since the front desk didn't communicate it to him. Visit 2: My dog finally got the rabies shot plus a nail trim. I was quoted $25 for a nail trim, but was charged $44. When I asked why I got a premium price, they said my dog moved a lot and needed a second person to hold her. The manager said, "the staff is certified for low-stress handling." My dog is a sweet little bichon poodle, she's only 15 pounds. You would think they have enough training to handle it. Since I was not informed of the fee prior, they will remove it from the bill and charge me the correct quoted price of $25. Visit 3: This was the last straw. They gave my dog the wrong vaccines! It was the same vaccines she had a month ago! The front desk printed the wrong invoice. I told them I was certain this invoice was incorrect because she already had her rabies vaccine and two shots last month. I advised them to review the history to confirm the correct vaccines are scheduled for today. She returned with the same invoice and marked the treatment as "declined." She continue to argue with me in the lobby. Her name is Olivia. Be careful with her. For her to insist she checked the history and still made a mistake is suspicious. That tells me she is untrained and/or careless. I expressed this to the manager, and she explained that the reason for this error was that they forgot to update the notes in the system. WOW! The only reason I came back for my 3rd visit was that the manager was very apologetic about the two visits and advised she would have a staff meeting and discuss this with her team. It sounds promising, right. No. Because it happened again! It's clear that the staff doesn't learn from their mistakes. It's probably because they know there is no real punishment. Just a slap on the wrist. SMH. I got a full refund for my visit, but it's expected since they gave my dog the wrong vaccines. Now I have to find a new clinic, pay the initial fee, explain to them what happened and pray that there are no harmful side effects from this incident. Worst of all, my dog has to go through two more shots. As a pet owner, you would agree that seeing your dog in pain hurts you. Don't take the risk of coming here.

VERY PREJUDICE, DISRESPECTFUL, RUDE and, not apologetic at all, bad customer service accross the board, yelling at me while other clients can hear, and I had to raise my voice but finally left after I realized they were causing me anxiety and wasting my time. Dr. Sawyer amd the receptionist are rude. They all need to be replaced with customer service oriented people. I was running late to my 8AM appointment and was told over the phone, "if you can make it in 10 minutes we will see you. I made it by 8:12 AM due to the railroad track coming from Downtown Sunnyvale. We went to the front desk but my puppy accidentally peed so the front desk lady proceeded to clean up the accident but did mention we would still be seen just in between appointments. Aother couple just came in for their appointment at 8:15AM. While another front desk lady just sat there not helping, theirs names were Olivia and Michelle. I noticed that the other receptionist gave paperwork to the 8:15 appointment so I asked if I needed paperwork as well. The receptionist cleaning the accident said yes, after she's done cleaning the accident. 8:15 Mochi was being cared for and we were still waiting so I asked how many doctors were available. They said 1 but I haven't seen 1 yet, only the 2 technicians helping Mochi. They were talking about pooh samples so I told them I was gonna step out to get fecal sample while we waited on the doctor and if they can have the paperwork ready since the doctor hasn't came put to see us yet or even put in a room or given any paperwork to get started. I came back asked if the doctor was ready yet and they finally had the paperwork on the front desk. While I was filling out my paperwork the doctor finally came out to tell me. That we had only 5 minutes left for our appointment and i would have to reschedule and I would not be reimbursed for my $85 plus we had to reschedule. I explained what happened, he didn't care and was focused on not seeing us for our appointment and the $85 that he wasn't going to reimburse. I felt attacked in so many levels. I sensed a bit of prejudice from the doctor and the receptionist that was cleaning up my puppies accident. The bottom line is I left, I will never go back to this clinic, I will tell everyone I know that has a puppy Downtown Sunnyvale my whole experience at this clinic and for them to tell everyone we know because I would not give my money nor have my puppy around this type of people or environment. https://www.bbb.org/file-a-complaint

This was my first time here with my new adopted puppy name Harley. Harley has been dealing with a horrible case of environmental allergies. I called them to make an appointment and they answered right away got my information since I am a new customer they take an $85 deposit which they deduct from your bill to guarantee your spot. They scheduled me in. He ended up getting a shot and some medicated shampoo. From Olivia at the front desk to the technician and the doctor everybody was kind and friendly. I loved the whole atmosphere. Definitely will be coming back. Thanks

Everyone is so friendly and helpful, and they really all care about animals. Dr. Michelle has always been wonderful. She listens, she's patient, my dogs love her, she's professional and just a pleasure to coordinate with when it comes to my dogs' care. I lean on the more holistic side of care, and I love that Dr. Michelle really takes that into consideration when we are discussing health and meds. She doesn't just run to medication for the answer all the time. I really appreciate the balance of some holistic remedies with modern medicine for the dogs. My older dog Snickers has pancreatitis and he is on prescription food, but Just Food for Dogs as a topper and other vitamins she suggested. Also, the prices here are very reasonable. I've had to take the dogs to other vets on the occasion the office is closed for a week, and other vet prices are very pricey! Arroyo Animal Clinic doesn't try to sale me on procedures or meds. We just address what is needed. There isn't a sales pitch like some other vets do. Things can get expensive (I've had surgeries here, teeth cleanings, blood panels, and all those are not cheap. But still overall service and care cannot be beat. They really do care about you and you're animal. All in all, Arroyo Animal Clinic has been my go to veterinary for years, and I'm not going anywhere else. I drive from San Jose to come here and will continue do so until Dr. Michelle closes shop.

I've had my dog since he was 8 weeks old, and all of his care had been handled here for years. My first major concern happened during his neuter procedure. The staff emphasized that we needed to arrive exactly at 8 AM, so I gave my dog a bath beforehand since I knew he wouldn't be able to bathe after surgery. My dog is hypoallergenic and has hair rather than fur, so he takes a long time to dry. He was still slightly damp when we arrived because I didn't have enough time to fully blow-dry him before the appointment. Hours went by without any communication from the clinic, so I finally called to check on him. That's when they informed me they hadn't even started the procedure because they were waiting for him to dry off in the kennel. I was extremely upset that nobody thought to call and tell me my dog's surgery had been delayed for hours over something so minor. After the surgery, I followed all post-op instructions, but weeks later the stitches still had not dissolved and my dog was becoming irritated. Because my trust had already been shaken, I ended up going to another vet for a second opinion and to have the stitches removed. Despite all of this, I decided to give the clinic another chance. My dog had his first dental cleaning and extraction here when he was around 3, and now at age 7 he needs another cleaning. This time, however, they suddenly said that because of his underbite they could no longer handle his "anatomical challenges" and referred me to a specialist in Aptos that charges nearly double and is completely out of the way. What doesn't make sense to me is that they successfully cleaned his teeth before, but now they're saying they can't do it again. After more than six years of bringing my dog here with no major medical issues, it's incredibly disappointing to now feel like they no longer want to service him. Overall, the customer service has been poor. Communication is lacking, emergencies don't seem to be prioritized appropriately over routine appointments, and my experiences here have left me very disappointed and frustrated.

When Bruno passed away it was at the clinic (it was his time, he was in pain). They gave us the space we needed with him to say goodbye and made a difficult situation no more difficult than it needed to be. I want to talk a little about their prescription policies, after reading a review about frustration that ELC asks to speak to you directly instead of just sending prescriptions to other places, or wanting to make an appointment before renewing certain prescriptions. It's literally relevant to the phone call I had with them today! My cat Guava has had urine crystals in the past and was put on prescription food, since then he's had no issues. I called in to renew the prescription since Chewy bounced it back to me as expired. They asked me to bring him in to do a check up and urinalysis before renewing the prescription. Honestly, because he's been doing so well, I didn't even think to do that. At first I was like "aw man but he's fine! He's doing so well!" But I thought about it: this really speaks to the level of care they have for our animals. Sometimes we think everything's fine and we only find out it's not fine when it's *super* not fine. It's been a couple years since he was last checked out. If you don't know about cat urine crystals, they can lead to blockages which are fatal. I really appreciate that they want to make sure he's okay. I let them know I needed a week or two to figure out finances for the appointment and they said they could still send my boyfriend home with Guava's prescription food from their office in the meantime. And the lady on the phone was extremely kind and non-judgmental, which meant a lot. They've been nothing but fair to us, kind, and loving to my animals. When Guava had to be checked in for several days back when he had his crystals, they let me come into the back and sit with him while he was recovering, sticking my fingers through the bars to pet his head and give him what comfort I could. So yeah, I get the prescription thing can be inconvenient, but they care, and that matters more to me than anything.

Finding a good vet that is at a privately owned hospital has been a challenge and after reading their website and hearing good things from a couple of colleagues, I drove over an hour each way for appointments with each of my dogs. I saw Dr. Cauvel and was very impressed with his knowledge, he recognized it was better for me to handle my super excitable malinois vs have her go into the back for her vaccination, and most importantly, when I presented him with a more complex issue on one of my dogs and I presented my thoughts, he didn't treat me like my background was somehow a threat like I have experienced before. He went out of his way to review some information and photos I emailed after the appointment and we decided on what to try. I was really thrilled with my experience with this vet at this practice with both of my dogs, and despite the drive will definitely be coming back for future needs.

I strongly advise against trusting this clinic with any major surgery. I brought my rescue cat here…read morefor treatment of nose cancer, which they had already diagnosed as being present throughout his entire nose. Despite this, they completely ignored one side of his nose during treatment and committed multiple acts of severe professional negligence. 1. Failure to Follow Agreed Treatment Plan: I paid for and consulted on an aggressive, complete nose removal. The consulting veterinarian explicitly stated that the surgery "would be a waste" unless the entire nose was removed because leaving any cancer behind would cause it to return aggressively. Instead, a general practice surgeon--whom I was never permitted to speak with--made a unilateral mid-surgery decision to perform a minimal "scrape," leaving 2/3 of the tumor and visible cancerous bulbs intact. 2. Complete Violation of Informed Consent: If the surgeon did not feel capable or comfortable performing the agreed-upon nose removal once my cat was sedated, they had a strict medical and ethical obligation to call me from the operating room. By failing to contact me, they denied me my legal right to decline a substandard procedure, wake my cat up, and immediately transfer him to a qualified veterinary oncologist or specialist who could perform the surgery correctly. 3. Total Lack of Post-Operative Communication: When I picked up my cat after major surgery, the clinic provided absolutely zero communication or discharge instructions. I had to discover via text message that they failed to complete the agreed-upon service. They then falsely claimed the cancer was only on one side, directly contradicting their own previous diagnosis and what was clearly visible. Because of their failure to remove the tumor as promised, the cancer returned with extreme aggression. I had to euthanize my cat because this clinic robbed him of his only opportunity to receive a proper, complete surgery from a qualified professional. I have the full text message logs, emails, and images confirming this timeline. A formal complaint regarding this professional negligence and failure to obtain informed consent is being filed directly with the State Veterinary Board. Do not trust them with your animal's life. Response to owner : There is a fundamental difference between a "medically complex" adjustment and a complete change in surgical scope without owner consent. The explicit, documented purpose of Tom Tom's consultation was a complete nose removal. I was explicitly told by your staff that a partial removal or "minimal scrape" would not be effective given the aggressive nature of his cancer. Yet, while he was sedated, Dr. Eileen made the unilateral decision to pivot to a minimal scrape, leaving active cancerous bulbs behind, without ever calling me to get my informed consent. By failing to call me from the operating room, you denied me my legal right as a client to decline a sub-standard procedure. Had I been contacted, I would have immediately instructed the clinic to wake him up so I could transfer him to a qualified veterinary oncologist or specialist who was capable of performing the agreed-upon surgery. Furthermore, your clinic attempted to retain 100% of the funds for a complete nose removal until I forced accountability through a series of extensive emails. Your own text message records confirm that the surgeon only focused on one side of the nose, directly contradicting the agreed-upon treatment plan. This is a clear issue of professional negligence and a failure to obtain informed consent, not a misunderstanding of "expectations." I will not be having further private discussions with management to help cover up this clinic's lack of informed consent. The time for discussion was when Tom Tom was on the operating table. All further correspondence from me will be handled directly through the formal complaint I am filing with the State Veterinary Board.

I went to numerous Vets and while others were price gouging me, Silicon offered the BEST & HONEST quotes. Two years ago, my dog developed some masses on her chest and legs. As I stressed everyday about this, I finally decided to take my dog to Silicon Valley. I remember the day, it was a Sunday. Dr. Gahra gave me a great quote and even said he can remove them that same day. I said let's do this. Let me tell you, they really took care of my dog while she was in their hands. It's been 3 weeks since post op surgery and my dog is doing great! Can't express how thankful and happy I am with the end result. Her test results came back benign too! I definitely recommend this vet! Thank you again, Dr. Gahra & Melissa and the other young lady (who weighed Cher) who made this stressful time for me more pleasantly. Christina & Cher
