I had a very strange and disappointing experience with this practice, and I feel it's important to share so others don't go through the same thing. I initially tried reaching out by phone multiple times, but every call went straight to voicemail with instructions to email for a faster response. I followed that direction and sent an email, clearly stating that my situation was urgent--but I never received any reply, not even in my spam folder. Concerned and needing help, I decided to stop by in person to schedule an appointment. When I arrived, I was met at the door of what appeared to be a house, and the interaction was honestly shocking. The person who greeted me was abrupt, dismissive, and didn't even give me a chance to explain why I was there. I was told my email had already been responded to, which simply isn't true. I'm especially confused by the 5-star rating, as that's what led me to trust this practice in the first place for my senior dog. The lack of communication and the level of rudeness I encountered were completely unexpected. I would not expect this kind of behavior from any professional--let alone someone presenting themselves as a holistic provider. read more

Sarah was my first encounter with a holistic vet and I cannot imagine taking my pets anywhere else. She spends time with your pets in a comfortable environment. Melvin and Clark both felt at ease immediately and I know she helped Melvin's last months so much better. I trust her completely. read more

I can't believe that I haven't written a review about The Western Dragon yet. Dr. Sara is the best thing that has happened to my family (which consists of my four dogs and I) in a very long time. I cannot even begin to explain how much she has changed our lives. I strongly believe that one of my dogs wouldn't be alive today without the incredible interventions provided by Dr. Sara. Dr. Sara is truly magical. Several months before we started seeing her, my blind dog sustained an eye injury which resulted in a severe corneal ulcer. For six+ months, he couldn't open his right eye, and the whole right side of his face was wet from constant tear production. I took him to multiple Western vets, including a wonderful eye specialist, but even she couldn't solve the problem. He was prescribed several different types of antibiotic and steroid drops. Some didn't work at all, and others worked only temporarily. At our initial consultation with Dr. Sara, she mentioned that she was in the process of formulating some eye drops for other animals in her practice (she has an apothecary), and that she would give me a bottle when they were ready. We received the bottle a couple of months later, and within a few days of starting the deliciously scented drops, his eye was healed! That is just one of the many wonderful things that she has done for my dogs. I am incredibly grateful, and would find it difficult to move away from this area simply because I never want to be too far away from her. I cannot recommend her highly enough. read more

What can I say? I absolutely love Dr. Sara and my little guy did so well with her when normally he is quite timid with new people. I feel so grateful to have found her when my dog really needed extra support for his heart condition and I personally see an acupuncturist and do holistic remedies myself and so it only makes sense that I would do the same for my "kids." Anyway, I am beyond thrilled about getting in with Dr. Sara. She's an absolute dream come true for me as a dog mama!!! :-) read more

Dr Skewski is extremely knowledgeable and my 12yo pug has shown quite a lot of improvement. We have been seeing her for more than a year and we are very happy with her recommendations. Also she makes sure that everything is clean and sanitized and I have been comfortable seeing her with my dog even when I am pregnant read more

Dr. Sara is someone I cannot recommend highly enough. Dr. Sara is a trained and licensed vet who decided to learn more about the Eastern philosophy in animal treatment and pain management and became a fully accredited animal acupuncturist and herbalist. We have a shepherd cross who was diagnosed with four bad legs before she was one year old. We went through surgery to repair the hips, but arthritis started setting in before she was 3 years old. We were determined to give our dog something other than just increasing doses of pain medication. We found her via her website and decided to give her a try and have never regretted it once since we first met her. We see her from 1-2 times a month for treatment of our now 8+ year old dog. Our dog is now like a completely new animal. She can run and play like she did before when she was a puppy. Even more exciting for us, she is now completely off of pain medications like Carprofen and Rimadyl that could harm her liver. She also has started treating our 6 year old retriever-Aussie cross who tore his CCL ligament in his knee. A year after the incident, he is running and playing like he did before the incident without any surgery or pain meds. Lastly, in addition to knowing absolutely everything about everything we have ever thought up to ask her or been able to look up on the internet, Dr. Sara also has the best bedside manor with every animal we've ever seen her with. Normally our dogs aren't too keen on going to the vet, but we can barely hold them back when they go through her office door with tails wagging and anxiously awaiting to give her doggie kisses. If you give Dr. Sara the chance to treat your pet, you will NOT regret it. read more

Dr. Sara is the best vet I have ever encountered in three decades of owning dogs. She is smart, intuitive, and she actually practices holistic medicine. Many vets say they are holistic but are not. Dr. Sara treats my dogs with excellent insight and practical remedies. I am relieved and thrilled that I found her. read more

Back again today to visit Dr Sara, and more than happy with the results so far. The fur has started to grow back over Ali's hip where the arthritis is, which means it's not hurting her as much and she's not licking it as much. She also jumped from the ground to the bed without using her stairs, which hasn't happened in two years. Dr Sara says she's responding so well she doesn't have to come back for a month. $80 this trip, again worth every DIME. Thanks Dr Sara, for giving my little girl a better quality of life. Yay for Acupuncture! read more

My companion animals have been seeing Dr. Sara for at least 2 years now. I began seeking holistic treatment when my cat began having urinary problems. Within a few months, her system was back to normal and has been great ever since. She now eats a very healthy diet of raw chicken and is not stuck with a low quality prescription food. My dog rarely has to go to the vet, but after a while, he too visited Dr. Sara. He has aggression issues and he had never walked into the vet without a muzzle. Well... he does not mind going to see Dr. Sara! She wanted to give him a chance without the muzzle and it's worked great so far. He enjoys his visits and she really knows how to interact with animals. It's great to be able to take care of my dog and cat in a way that will actually prevent common problems. My cat has now been free of urinary problems for over a year, and my dog who is at least 11 years old--still bounces around like a puppy (but is very well behaved)! I would recommend Dr. Sara to anyone who is concerned about the long-term well being of their companion animals. Not only are my animals healthier, but many of the changes that we have made in their diets and activity level are preventing other common problems that come with age in most domesticated animals. I have also never felt over charged for anything. I feel that the rates are fair and any supplements or treatments that I leave with are helpful, necessary, gentle and contributing to the health of my animals. read more

Sara is a great vet who helped me to wean my baby cat off of 3 high doses of seizure meds -- we significantly reduced the amount that he needed. Over a period of more than 5 years she dealt with my frantic emails that I sent late at night because he had breakout seizures or wouldn't eat or anything else that I was freaking out about. It was wonderful to get the help and reassurance and she actually cared how he was doing. Her recommendations were thoughtful and helpful and timely. It's a world of difference than having to schedule an appointment with many other vets and waiting (there really isn't any other vet that I know of who would do email questions). Sadly my cat developed aggressive abdominal cancer and stopped eating. Through it all she helped me figure out how to keep him fed and to make sure that he was getting enough nutrients. Sadly it wasn't something that he could beat it metastasized. I was lucky to have 9 more weeks with him and I had Sara's counsel and support to help me figure out what was going on and what to expect. If it hadn't been for her help I'm not sure I would have had an extra 5.5 years with him. If your fur baby is like your child, there's no other vet who I would trust more to help care for them, especially the fragile ones. read more

Our doberman, Dexter, had severe allergies. I'm talking, hair falling out, hives, non-stop scratching and flakiness. His hair loss was so bad that we were sweeping the floors several times a day, just because it had a fine layer of hair after just a few hours. We did a few rounds of steroids, which did help, but certainly not a long-term option. We took Dexter to Dr. Sara at the Western Dragon and she had us incorporate some new regiments into his daily routine, as well as some supplements, and they have made a WORLD of difference. Our little guy is a happy, healthy and playful dog again, instead of consumed by a constant need to tear and rip at his skin. We could not be happier - thank you Dr. Sara! read more

I've been taking my dog to Dr. Sara for two or three years. I'm moving away from the area and seriously don't know what I'll do without her. I'm seriously considering coming back to San Jose once a month to have my dog treated by her. I'm dead serious - she's THAT good. My poor dog suffers from terrible skin allergies. I initially took her to an animal dermatologist, who put her on allergy medications that helped a tiny bit, but were very expensive AND had very bad potential long-term side-effects. At the time, my dog was only two, and I could not imagine giving her those awful meds for many years to come. More importantly, she was getting very little relief, even on the meds. We did a food trial and established it wasn't a food allergy. She is just allergic to things in the air -- pollens, weeds, dust, etc... Finally, the vet we were seeing (and still see for vaccinations, teeth cleaning, etc.) suggested we try acupuncture, and gave me Dr. Sara's card. Acupuncture had always worked for my own health issues, so I thought it was worth a shot (pun somewhat intended). Starting with the very first treatment, I saw a huge improvement in my dog's itching and chewing behaviors. People need to understand that acupuncture is never a "quick fix" and the improvement has been slow, but steady! My dog had completely chewed the hair off her feet before we saw Dr. Sara. Now, occasionally, she'll still chew herself a little bald spot, but her allergies are probably 75% better (or more) since she has been getting acupuncture. Dr. Sara has such a way with animals, too. My dog always goes crazy when we turn onto Dr. Sara's street, and jumps out of the car to PULL me toward the office. She adores Dr. Sara, loves the treats she has, and loves exploring the office and getting the smells of all of the other dogs and cats who have been there. Dr. Sara responds to emails very quickly when I have questions between treatments. I wish I could get care like that from a human doctor! Even my vet (who has lost money now that I'm not there every few months with a dog who is chewing her feet off) is so pleased with the improvement since we've been seeing Dr. Sara. She's the best. read more

Our herbal dose has been tweaked enough to be perfect! My girl continues to be dry all the time, and will probably continue on her herbal supplements for spay incontinence the rest of her life. We had a problem with Hope's processing anesthesia after a teeth cleaning. Again, Dr. Sara helped us to deal with the digestive upsets naturally. One thing I really appreciate is that Dr. Sara replies to emails. We tried a remedy recently that seemed to make my dog a bit sick. She wrote back immediately about specifically what to do. I cannot recommend this vet highly enough. read more

Sara is really a terrific vet. She helped my dog with heart disease to live longer and more comfortably. She helped my other dog with a broken ACL to heal without surgery which the regular vet said was impossible yet he is walking on four legs again! Sara is a great alternative to the regular vets and heals naturally. She is also super with animals and my dogs are happy to go there! read more

Two out of our three furkids (we have 3 GSDs) have seen Dr. Sara. Not only do they love her, she's been critical to their recoveries from knee surgery (one surgery a piece) and has been great in helping us keep our eldest furkid (11yr old GSD) chasing his ball and squirrels through holistic treatments. Highly recommend! read more

I was fortunate to find Dr. Sara at Adobe Pet Hospital about 16 years ago when my little Yorkie, Bucky, was very weak and all of the vets at UC Davis had given up on him and could not diagnose his condition. Bucky had been a very abused rescue of about 14 years old. Dr. Sara gave him more strength than he had had in many years and he lived another 1.5 years with activities and appetite. Now, she has done it again. I brought my sweet little 12.5 year old Yorkie, Chloe, to her when Chloe had been close to death a week earlier when diagnosed with a life-threatening disease. Chloe was put on a heavy dose of predisone by her regular vet but that's all he had. I wanted more. I wanted good nutrition and anything else that would give her the highest quality and longest life possible. Dr. Sara was so gentle with this very tiny (4.3lbs), very sick, very weak baby. She prescribed herbs, digestive enzymes, special oils and acupuncture. Now, Chloe is doing so well she walks with me over the bridges of Foster City and eats up a storm of our special diet, veggies and fruit. I call Chloe our "miracle dog." Thank you, Dr. Sara!! read more

Dr. Sara is helping our blue dobie with her persistent skin issues and hair loss, common conditions for blue dobermans. The regular vet would give her antibiotics, and her skin would improve, but only temporarily. Shadow is now doing well thanks to Dr. Sara's extensive knowledge and treatment with herbs and supplements. Is it expensive? Yes; we visit almost monthly. But most of the cost is the herbs and supplements, which is not her fault. (I recently picked up a refill from her that was much cheaper than I could find on the internet). Our dog is in much better shape thanks to Sara. And yes, as other reviewers mentioned, she always answers her emails, (even answered me on New Year's Day!) And Shadow loves her! She is always excited when we arrive at Dr. Sara's! read more

Dr. Sara treated two of my cats, one who was diagnosed with cancer of the salivary gland and the other who had kidney disease. She treated them holistically with acupuncture and herbs which I believe helped them to have a better quality of life towards the end. Dr. Sara is extremely knowledgeable, professional and was always great at helping to ease my anxiety as well as my cats' and she always responded to my emails almost immediately. My cats seemed to love being in her office and running around with the acupuncture needles in their backs. When it came time to euthanize my cat who had cancer, Dr. Sara showed compassion and respect and helped me through what was a very traumatic experience for me, having to make that decision for the first time with a pet. read more

We've been seeing Sara off and on for the past 4 years since she does alternative veterinary medicine. She treated our german shepherd for two years before he was no longer responding, but without her he would never have made it that long. She is now treating our 11 year old golden retriever, and she is showing some improvement in the way she walks. If you have a pet whom you feel might benefit from acupuncture or another type of alternative treatment, give Sara a try. We wouldn't know what to do without her! read more

Sara has tended our cat herd since we moved to Morgan Hill almost 10 years ago. I do not believe we could have found a more skillful, knowledgeable and open-minded doctor. Her professional expertise is exceeded only by her kindness, and she is very direct and honest with us. She has seen more than one of our cats thru end-of-life issues (one kitty at age 23!) and helps you through that difficult passage with great compassion and awareness of the importance of that final farewell. It is well worth the drive to have our pets so well cared for. read more
