My family has been taking our animals here for years. Bruno, our yorkie, who passed away last year well into his teens was a really sweet little guy and was always treated gently by the staff and Dr Bakhari. When Bruno passed away it was at the clinic (it was his time, he was in pain). They gave us the space we needed with him to say goodbye and made a difficult situation no more difficult than it needed to be. I want to talk a little about their prescription policies, after reading a review about frustration that ELC asks to speak to you directly instead of just sending prescriptions to other places, or wanting to make an appointment before renewing certain prescriptions. It's literally relevant to the phone call I had with them today! My cat Guava has had urine crystals in the past and was put on prescription food, since then he's had no issues. I called in to renew the prescription since Chewy bounced it back to me as expired. They asked me to bring him in to do a check up and urinalysis before renewing the prescription. Honestly, because he's been doing so well, I didn't even think to do that. At first I was like "aw man but he's fine! He's doing so well!" But I thought about it: this really speaks to the level of care they have for our animals. Sometimes we think everything's fine and we only find out it's not fine when it's *super* not fine. It's been a couple years since he was last checked out. If you don't know about cat urine crystals, they can lead to blockages which are fatal. I really appreciate that they want to make sure he's okay. I let them know I needed a week or two to figure out finances for the appointment and they said they could still send my boyfriend home with Guava's prescription food from their office in the meantime. And the lady on the phone was extremely kind and non-judgmental, which meant a lot. They've been nothing but fair to us, kind, and loving to my animals. When Guava had to be checked in for several days back when he had his crystals, they let me come into the back and sit with him while he was recovering, sticking my fingers through the bars to pet his head and give him what comfort I could. So yeah, I get the prescription thing can be inconvenient, but they care, and that matters more to me than anything. read more

I love this vet practice. I started coming to this vet when my old vet could not get my car in for an appointment for over a week when he got into a fight with a raccoon. This office is available for last minute appointments when things inevitably come up making emergency room visits less likely. They also have fair pricing and are thorough and honest. This is an exceptional vet clinic. Dr. Bhakri and the entire staff are very professional, kind, and caring. Details: My elderly dog had a tooth abscess that needed to be removed (along with many teeth). I was able to make an appointment quickly, saw Dr. Bhakri, and was given a high and low estimate. They then took my dog in to do the surgery. They called to tell me that cost would be more than the high estimate (due to the number of teeth that had to be removed). They called again after the surgery to let me know it had gone well, and that I could pick up my dog in three hours. When I picked her up, I could barely tell that she had been anesthetized; she looked amazing. I'm so glad I found this vet clinic. I never liked my previous vet clinic. read more

I was out of town with my dog when he suddenly had a change in condition, and I decided to bring him here, so glad I did. I was initially hesitant about going to a new vet and worried about being charged for unnecessary treatments, but this ended up being a great experience from start to finish. I called last minute and was able to get a same day appointment within 30 minutes. The online intake form was quick and easy to complete. I was greeted promptly when entering and waited in the lobby for maybe two minutes before being seen by both the vet tech and the veterinarian. The staff were professional, kind, and efficient. Noey, the vet tech, kept the visit friendly and handled my dog with genuine care. The doctor was down-to-earth, straightforward, and transparent with no pressure for unnecessary labs or workups. My dog was treated promptly and sent home with medication the same day. The appointment was simple, quick, and honest. I will definitely be coming back. read more

Dr. Bhakri and his staff are the best people I've come to trust with my Mini Schnauzers' care. I came from two vets prior to this that did not seem to prioritize my pups at all - only cared about how much our visits would make them. Dr. Bhakri has proven time and again to truly care about our dogs to the point where I no longer have any trust issues with vet care. Small thing but definitely worth mentioning: my female Schnauzer (3 years old) has been suffering from a psoriasis-type skin condition for the past two years. The two vets I took to before ELC kept prescribing her shots and pills that really did nothing. And yes, we were paying hundreds of dollars a month for them. When we took her in to see Dr. Bhakri, he immediately knew what was going on and diagnosed her a different medicine - and within two weeks her skin condition almost completely cleared. What!!? If that's not true care then I don't know what is. Just goes to show how much we're in great hands. read more

Took my kitten Weasley here 5 years ago to get his rabies vaccine. This was during Covid and I was not allowed in the room, I waited in my car. 4 years later, my cat developed a tumor in the right rear of his body and after undergoing testing (at a different vet) it was discovered to be a feline injection site sarcoma. After speaking with other vets, i discovered that it is common practice to give cats Injections in their leg or tail so that if FISS occurs, the leg can be amputated and the cancer completely removed. This vet was negligent and vaccinated him on a part of his body that made it impossible to completely remove the tumor. After two surgeries and a full round of radiation treatments (which were VERY expensive by the way), Weasley's cancer came back, this time in his lungs, and he suffered a lot at the end. We just had him put down today at the age of 5 1/2 years old. It is such a shame he didn't get to live his full life because of a mistake made by careless people. I spoke with the vet one year ago when we first discovered the cancer and they were pretty shady about it. They made it very difficult to obtain the vaccination records and once I did receive them, although they did record the location of the vaccine, the report appeared to not be very detailed. This made it very difficult for me when I was trying to receive financial compensation from the vaccine company. His medical bills cost me over 15 grand. Weasley should still be here. Not sure if the people responsible for this are still working there. read more

If Yelp had more than 5 starts, I would give it to them! I volunteer for a dog rescue and on Wednesday, June 19th, I was supposed to transport a dog from his foster's home to a kennel. We found out the day of the transfer that the dog has not had his vaccinations since 2022 and the kennel would not take him without him being fully vaccinated. I called around and most places did not have same day appts. and he needed to be moved that day. I finally called ELC and Cassandra who picked up gave me an appointment for 5:30pm that day. Turns out that the kennel closes at 6 so I called back and explained the situation and they were able to fit the dog in at 3pm instead. The dog is very under socialized and will not let anyone touch him. He also has to have his leash and collar on at all times but we needed it removed so he could be boarded at the kennel. I fully expected that he would have to be muzzled/anesthetized in order to be treated. The staff and doctor at ELC took almost an hour calming him down and were able to not only give him his vaccinations but also take his collar and leash off without having to muzzle him!!! AMAZING! This was above and beyond and all because they did not want to traumatize him by using big gloves or wrapping him in a towel, which is the right things to do. I cannot recommend them enough and I will take my dog here from now on! read more

Came here to see an exotic vet for my hamster. I saw Dr Bhakhri on Saturday. Not only was he patience but he was very attentive. The elc team love my hamster and complimented how wonderful he is. They handled him with care and grace as he will bite out of fear. My hamster didnt bite anyone this visit. This was an follow visit as my hamster went to the er days prior. Dr Bhakhri assured me I can call if my hamster got worst. He gave us detailed instructions for at home care. Low and behold my hamster got worst Sunday night. I found ELC through one of my friends, and with a lot of veterinary i'm always skeptical at who gets to see my pets, just because of horror stories I hear. But Dr. Bhak was amazing with my dog Tarzan. He noticed straight on that my dog might have a problem with licking/chewing one of his legs, I didn't even get to mention it yet. The other staff were super friendly as well and all professional, I really do think that this might be my go to place for any pets I have. read more

On the plus side, I am always able to get in quickly with an urgent need which I appreciate and at least one of the techs there is delightful. On the negative side, a few things. One thing to know is that they will make it difficult for you to buy meds somewhere more cost effective. They refuse to talk to any pharmacy on the phone or via email by policy. Most other vets will approve RXs (e.g. from Chewy when the pharmacy reaches out) but not here. Even if they make a mistake they'll ask you to come in and pick up a paper script. However, the thing that upset me the most was how they handled the sudden passing of one of my pets. When I brought him in after his passing, they started with the bill in a completely transactional manner - no condolences or sympathy, no acknowledgement of the situation, no questions, no offer to me to be able to spend a moment with him (suggested that I just sign the bill and drop him off like he was laundry). They pushed back on my request to talk to the vet to answer my questions but finally said they'd see if she was willing to have her lunch interrupted (she was and was quite kind, which I appreciated). When I went to pick up his ashes, the person at the desk turned around, started rifling through a pile of identical blue bags stacked up behind her, found my beloved friend in the pile, and hands him to me with a "here you go." I am still struggling to get over seeing a sizable stack of former patients piled up in the open with no dignity, no respect for what they meant to the owner (and not even an I'm sorry to the person picking it up). Throughout my time using them as my vet there were little things that gave me a nagging feeling that I was just a source of revenue but told myself that I was overreacting, but now thinking I may have been right. I needed an emergency appointment, the guy at the front desk (Jacob?) was very helpful, got me an appointment for that morning. He was also incredibly patient with a very difficult lady in the waiting room. The vet assistant was funny and friendly, and patient and calm with my dog, The Veterinarian was also great, she was thorough, gentle, and very soothing toward my dog, and toward me. I can tell they all are gentle, kind, compassionate people. They did not once make me feel pressured into anything financially, and in fact helped with prioritizing the most important parts of the treatment into what I could afford at the moment. Like I Showed in the voicemail your company claimed her test results were good up until I REQUESTED the bloodwork a few weeks later. Then you mention her test results were not good. Not only do you not take accountability, YOU REPORTED MY CAT TO ANIMAL CONTROL. Told animal control that you never diagnosed her with cancer.... My girlfriend, Cathy (copied), and I have been with ELC just a short time now... is it 1.5 - 2 months? To us, that doesn't matter, though, because from Day 1... when we first brought in our new two-month old kitten (Leo) who was very sick, Dr. Bhakhri and the entire team there have simply been amazing to work with! I own my own petsitting service that specializes in caring for pets with a lot of medical issues. I also work with a local rescue raising very small orphaned kittens. So I interact with different Veterinary hospitals much more than the average person. I really love ELC veterinary clinic! The vets there are top notch, and the vet techs are like gold. They really care about the animals they treat and they do a great job of treating them. When my clients have issues with their own vets, or when the animals in my care have issues while my clients are out of town and their own vets can't see them soon enough, I always take them to ELC. My dog had a seizure so I brought him to ELC. After blood exam and Xray ($1400), we waited for result. Doctor informed us that from the xray, the liver is small (much smaller than normal) and there is a likelihood of liver shunt. Dr Bhakri. recommended we should do ultrasound. We then scheduled to do ultrasound ($1k+) also at ELC.... needed to do fasting first. After ultrasound, we anxiously await for results. I called and scheduled for first available time doctor would be available to call... assistant Jacob set up the schedule but then the doctor never called back on the scheduled time so I called to check on status a few times after the scheduled time had past... every time, front desk kept saying doctor will call back... after 4 calls and over an hour after the scheduled time, Jacob said there was not a schedule for doctor to call me back at all. ridiculous. Avoid Jacob. Finally 3.5 hours after our scheduled time, doctor called and told me radiologist said my dog's liver is normal and there is no liver shunt. All other organs are also normal. Doctor Bhakri even asked me where I got the info that the liver is small... I said "you did. it's all from your Xrays" and then the doctor said... "oh, I recall now." What???? We had the ultrasound based on his recommendation on what should be done next. Then I asked the doctor why the discrepancy ... the doctor refused to explain and just told me to go find another clinic since I'm not happy with their service. what??? I sent in multiple emails afterwards asking to underst and the descrepancy, and Dr Bhakri refuses to answer. Very unprofessional and UNETHICAL... rude assistant Jacob, and unprofessional doctor Bhakri. STAY AWAY!! read more

If you want to be treated with respect, then please do not come here. You will be treated like trash because staffs are super arrogant. Also, this place is a rip-off. Awesome place!! My doggo needed a rabies vx asap for his grooming appt. I called around everywhere and everyone was booked. Thankfully they were able to get me in on the same day on a Saturday! The techs took the time to explain everything to me, answered all my questions and gave lots of pets to Louie (which I know he appreciated). Recently moved back to Sunnyvale. My dog was in need of a vet, so called my former vet office in Sunnyvale to try and make an appointment and was told they weren't taking new patients so I had to look for a new vet. This was the case with other vets called or they had a crazy high urgent appointment fee. ELC was my fourth vet clinic called. They were very accommodating and got my dog in the same day with a very reasonable urgent appointment fee. Dr Z was very thorough, kind and gentle, along with the entire staff! Thank you ELC vet for seeing my Charlie on a Saturday morning even though he was not a patient. Charlie was having intermittent episodes of vomiting and diarrhea. Most vets are closed on Saturdays or fully booked. I was so grateful they he was seen. After getting injection with fluids and another one to settle his tummy, Charlie felt much better and was able to drink water and eat a bit. We were sent home with meds too. We were seen promptly and the vet was very patient explaining everything! Thanks again! read more

This is my first Yelp review! My experience with Dr. Bhakhri and Jacob was disturbing. They are unprofessional, unethical, and incompetent for many reasons. I filed a complaint with BBB and with the District Attorney's Office. I purchased the $300 puppy package and experienced the following: 1. Incomplete vaccines 2. Incomplete physical exam 3. Denied a prescription because they were "too busy" 4. Lied about Costco not selling Simparica (Costco is the best for pet prescriptions) 5. Aggressive verbal behavior: A civil standby by the Sunnyvale Police was issued As a teacher and doctoral student, I tend to document all services. The vet team checked and confirmed I was correct. I spoke to Jacob, the hospital manager, and Dr. Bhakhri to try to get some of my money back because the new vet quoted me $175 for what my pet was missing. Dr. Bhakhri offered to do a physical exam, a discount, and to finish the vaccines, but since I no longer trusted him or his team, he got furious, aggressive, and started cursing; Jacob and Dr. Bhakhri interrupted me every time I spoke. They said they were not interested in negotiating. Jacob offered to refund me $50, but only if I sign a disclaimer that I wouldn't post a review on Yelp. If they were more intelligent it would be better for them to have given me back some of my money, but now my family, friends, and students will never come here, which means a loss of current and future customers. Every year, I teach more than 180 students and as pet lovers, we often talk about places we recommend and places to stay away from. This is a place to definitely stay away from. This is a long overdue review. I have recently been receiving reminders for our two cats for their annual exams and vaccinations. Unfortunately, we won't be back as we moved out of state last year. We have been taking our cats to EL-C Veterinary Clinic for a long time. When Dr. Bhakhri bought the practice from the previous vet, I was impressed with how he went over our cats records and adjusted vaccinations for our previous cat as she was sensitive and had bad reactions to previous vaccines. Over time, our cats developed significant medical issues, Dr Bhakhri never pushed unnecessary tests and was honest in stating that further diagnostic testing would likely not help. The office was compassionate when both of our cats reached the end of their lives. We had since acquired two cats and one of them exhibited symptoms of possible IBD. Again, Dr Bhakhri did not push expensive diagnostic testing and recommended over the counter diet for sensitive stomach and it has helped. Last year I was laid off and we decided that it was time to leave the Bay Area and relocate to a less expensive area. Our cats were due for their annual shots, we took them in and also asked for advice on transporting our cats out of state. Both Dr Bhakhri and Noelle spent a lot of time giving advice on moving and relocating our cats. Dr Bhakhri also prescribed a steroid for our older cat who sometimes throws up as we were going into a rental and needed to control vomiting. I was choked up at our last visit saying goodbye to everyone. We made the 500 mile out of state move and happy to report both cats did really well and and are happy in their new home. We needed a Rx refill, Jacob called in to the Costco pharmacy despite that we will no longer going to EL-C. Calling in the Rx and spending lots of time giving advice on the move shows EL-C really cares about pets and their parents. Our cats just had their annual exam and vaccines. When discussing our cats health, we used the care received at EL-C as a guide in moving forward. Their new vet concurred with Dr Bhakhri's assessment of our cat with the vomiting issues. We moved to an area where there is a shortage of medical professionals. The clinic where we took our cats was overbooked and I missed the attention we received at EL-C. Moving out of state put an exclamation point on how good EL-C is. I really miss not taking my cats there and all the staff. Needless to say, we would go back if we ever return to the area and highly recommend! read more

I would give zero star if I can. I used to go to San Jose animal hospital but since ELC is close to home, I decided to give it a try. I brought my Frenchi in for a bump on his toe, and the doctor put an e-collar on him then took a look at his paw. Without any further exam, the doctor left and brought me an estimate of $1400 dollars for foxtail surgery. He was not sure if it was foxtail but sure that my dog needed surgery. I told the doctor assistant that I would like a second opinion, and asked if the doctor would lower the exam fee $110 because he didn't really do any exam (no dental, belly, leg, listen to his heart and etc) . The answer was "no" and the reason was that my dog was not allowing him to, with an e-collar on, I was really confused how couldn't a guy + the assistant+myself handle a little Frenchi. I called my old veterinary, and they told me usually a foxtail surgery takes around $400 dollars, and I am glad I trusted my instinct and not having my dog treated at ELC. For the sake of your pets, I strongly not recommend this place. This paragraph is an update on my dog. We ended up having the surgery at San Jose Animal Hospital and it costed $538.7. read more

I have taken three cats here, and the staff have always been so professional and caring. Most recently, my son's cat Mowgli came in with a mass on his paw and teeth problems (senior cat). He has received excellent care from Dr. B and his staff, including Jacob. I initially received an estimate, for catching up on Mowgli's vaccinations, a snap test, and doing a dental and surgery on his paw. After approval, he had both procedures on the same day. Since then, Dr. B has had us come back every few days to check on the paw and provide extra care -- all at no additional cost. I greatly appreciate their professionalism and care, even though Mowgli may not be happy in his cone. I have referred people to ELC and will continue to do so. Dr. Bhakhri, Isabela, Jacob and the entire staff at ELC clinic have been extremely helpful, caring and considerate during our puppy's treatment for Giardia. As new puppy parents, potty training itself is already hard enough, and it becomes especially emotionally draining when we have to wake up with puppy diarrhea every other morning during Giardia infection. As a new patient at this clinic, we didn't know what to expect (our previous vet is just too far away so we figured we'd explore local options). ELC clinic has taken the time to answer all our questions, guiding us through the process and being very supportive while staying informative. For me, being professional and giving me straightforward facts are more important than being nice, and they managed to do enough of just both. While it's easy to look up any disease and infections online today and get thousands of recommendations, nothing can replace the hands-on knowledge, personalized assessment and reassurance provided by the doctor. Pricing - yes, they could be on the relatively pricy side compared to my previous vet, but so far I feel that's the reason why they can afford taking the time to speak with patients thoroughly. Mocha (our 18-week-old golden doodle) is still in the process of treating Giardia with Dr. Bhakhri, but I feel compelled to write a review to express my appreciation. I wish we knew about ELC since the first day we got our fur baby! Dr. Z is incredible! She is responsible, reasonable, patient, attentive, caring and very loving to my clinic-anxious baby! Unlike the other vets at other clinics, Dr. Z wouldn't suggest treatments/tests that aren't necessary for my dog. She makes my dog's well being her top priority compared to other clinics where making profits comes the first place. Dr. Z is also very experienced and knowledgeable. When facing some complicated and uncommon conditions, she follows through every progress to make sure her treatment plans are working and that my fur baby is getting better. The staff at ELC are very friendly and welcoming, too! They're all professional, caring and loving to us and our pets. Last but not least, I like how they make communications with customers so much easier! Customers can make an appointment through their website and they keep your pet's record and profile on a website called petly.com. All the visits record and vaxx records are on there, so owners can access the info at anytime. Overall we are very happy to have found ELC!
