I'm super disappointed in supporting a small business who treats their clients like this with zero resolution on the situation or even care to try to fix it as "I'm too busy with grooming, picking up kids and family to try and get you back in since you missed the appointment". Great customer service from true dog lovers! As you can see in my "before" photo, my dog Blue's nails were long and hurt me during play time. He was terrified of getting his nails trimmed and ground without me there, and I was nervous that I'd cut his nails too short if I did it myself. After a year of trying to find a place to take care of him, including PetSmart and other boutique pet salons, we finally found a place to actually get the job done and seemed to care about Blue. The groomers at Murdock's were very accommodating and allowed me to sit next to Blue while they quickly and effectively groomed his nails in the lobby. We will be repeat customers here. First, these folks groom my dogs, not me, so their expertise is highly appreciated. Expertise comes with rules. Follow them. As a dog-owner, it is COMPLETELY on you, YOU THE OWNER OF THE DOG YOU OWN, to get them prepped for their visit, whether 1st or 50th. What this means: Touch your pet's paws during play, during a brush, during training, while checking between toes. Touch your pet's ears during play, during a brush, during training, while checking for hair growth (some doggo's need their ears plucked to minimize infection). Touch your pet's face during play, during a brush, during training, while checking out the eye boogers. There are some owners who will place their hand in their pet's mouth during play to let them know who is boss. Sometimes, this is a way of communicating that biting is not okay - training through play. Get the picture yet? Brush them on an elevated surface (not ridiculously high) or table so they understand that this activity requires certain behavior from them and requires them to be within a certain square footage. And also, pets that haven't been fixed might be more hyper, so the experts may need to manage more or differently. I called four groomers near us, and these guys were the only ones who returned my call. We took our doggo here for his first groom; then COVID19 happened. Not being able to get on a regular schedule resulted in a series of haphazardly scheduled, personalized hair-styles, irregular sanitary cuts, lop-sided ear shapes, and the clikkity-clakkety-est nails ever on our floors. When we were able to return, they were still the same professional, inquisitive, and conscientious business we experienced before masks. Get over yourself about customer service. If they do good work, why the fuck does it matter. Does the person who Brazilian waxes you need to be chatty or do they need to know which wax minimizes skin rip/peel; do they need to make sure your eyebrows are even? Does the emergency room doctor need to make you feel comfortable while trying to save your life, or do they just need to do their damn job and save your life? If you need both excellent customer service and expertise, then prioritize as you see fit and go about your day. Good luck to you. I find the pricing reasonable. For the same price on my own hair, I don't get a full-body bath, my nails done, my ears plucked, or my butt hair shaved. My doggo is getting a deal! If you are a new paw parent, know that these specialists are getting to know your furry friend and vice versa. It is on you to understand that the beginning of that relationship means it might take time to work together, which means they might not call you until finished, which means it might take a while. Unless your furry friend is comatose, there is likely not a standard approach. read more

Sandy and her daughter were wonderful! Our golden doodle looks amazing and is very happy with his new bandanna. My husband dropped him off yesterday, and even though I'm sure they had an insane Saturday, Sandy took the time call me and let me know exactly what our pup's experience was like throughout the day. She even mentioned a few tips on how we should approach his summer time coat. It's not cheap to have your dog groomed anywhere, and the prices were reasonable compared to what I researched prior to making an appointment with them. Those prices also reflect a ton of work that goes into grooming I don't even know how many sizes, breeds, and personalities of dogs. Don't be fooled by looks... They are an amazing group. My first time there was really good. I personally worked with Bianca and she left my kiddo better than my old groomer. She exceeded my expectations. I have a Border Collie/Husky - long, thick, double coat.... I did my part and regularly combed her to prevent matting and knots. She did her part and released some underlying coat, trimmed and shaped her up, and she looks amazing. I absolutely love her work and I am sure the other groomers will do outstanding work. ALSO - dont get mad at them (or any groomer) if you dont care for your kiddo at home. If you drop them off looking like an old and tangled elementary school mop, you best not complain about having a naked dog. Do your part at home, run a comb through your dog once a week, AT LEAST. read more

I left my puppies home with a pet sitter while I went out of the country for 3 weeks. Fortunately, we learned that the boy does not mat and has more of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel instead of the ShihTzu. Unfortunately the female matted pretty bad behind and down her legs. So I tried to work on her with a long bristle brush that worked well but she had to lose more length. Murdock's took time to listen to all of my concerns and took extra time to let them play and take a break. They look amazing! A friend recommend this groomers after some horrible experiences our pup had at a pet store groomer. Its a bit of a drive from where we live but definitely worth it! Our furbaby always comes out looking so good & so soft after a visit here. Prices are reasonable. The staff is so nice. But the best thing of all is our furbaby doesn't leave this place all anxious/scared so it makes me feel comfortable leaving him there. I have been taking my dog here for 15 years. It used to be a friendly place to take your dog. You knew they were in good hands during the day. Recently, however, their prices have sky rocketed as well as the attitudes from the groomers. The front desk gals are not friendly, and when you drop your pet off now they do not even greet you. When I walked in the front desk staff didn't even say hello. All I got was a "what is the dogs name?" Not friendly and overpriced makes me think that I can take my dog elsewhere. It is too bad because they could make it more friendly, but they have not done so in a while. I guess I will be finding a new groomer. read more

I took both my Cavalier King Charles here and while they seemed nice and professional they clipped their private parts down to the skin. Both dogs were licking excessively and occasionally yelping after grooming. It happened twice. I spoke to them and still it happened again. I'll be looking for a more careful groomer. read more

I love this place. I started going here with my dogs grooming needs when I lived in Denver. When I moved to Wyoming, I drove the distance for their service because the groomer (Rikki) was very patient with my labradoodle who is terrified of grooming. It is pretty bad when your dog is a Labrador/poodle cross and is so scared of grooming. All in all I went here every 6-7 weeks for 4 years seeing both the owner, Rikki and Althea for grooming for my three dogs. Late last summer I moved to Iowa. This was my pups FIRST grooming. Obviously, I was anxious to begin with so we booked the earliest appointment available. (8:30am - so I was told.) We were there early, I explained what I wanted with my goldendoodle cut to the groomer. Our initial interaction was lackluster. She did not introduce herself and started the conversation with "what're we doing to him" I had to introduce myself as well as shook her hand. Then we went to discussing how I wanted him groomed and I felt rudeness and disinterest from the start. I asked when he would be ready and she said "between 11-1" I thought okay, that's a long time but to please let me know asap a closer estimate to pick up time as I needed to be at work and will plan around this. I was disappointed and nervous leaving after My conversation with her (and she really wasn't friendly to me or my dog) but left my furbaby anyway since this place had good reviews and told myself it would be okay. 12:30PM comes around and I have heard nothing. I call. "He will be ready closer to 2:30PM. " That's over 6+ hours of him being at the groomer. And he usually eats at 11:30 anyway. I was furious. Completely unacceptable. AGAIN, 2:30 comes around and no call to me. I start driving to the groomer regardless. I get a call on my there that he's ready. Great.. I show up. Thankfully, the haircut itself is great. No complaints there. Groomer said I should book an earlier appnt to make sure he gets groomed in a timely matter as other dogs came first before him?? Just a weird comment. Why have an appointment if you aren't going to stick to the time. He walked towards me and all of a sudden there is BLOOD all over the floor. I realize it's obviously coming from him. Not only did the receptionist not say A WORD she did not come out from the booth to help me or seem concerned. I stood up, told her to get the groomer that groomed him, immediately. His back paw was cut. I think this happened during grooming and she thought it stopped bleeding but didn't have the decently to tell me and be honest or up front. She finally comes out and says "this can happen when they get excited" ..... a pathetic apology and more blame to the dog. No concern at all. The rudeness I felt was overwhelming. I am so mad at myself for my generous tip. And really disappointed my experience was not better. Also $90 seemed steep. Needless to say, We will not be back. I called to book an appointment today, spoke to Athena, she has no business dealing with long term clients and feels the need to list every rule and restriction Rather than discussing the customer's needs and offering friendly service. She's very proud of the fact that they are always booked at least a week and you are absolutely under no circumstances allowed to drop your dogs off earlier than there appointment. We brought one of our dogs here recently, despite our initial uncomfortable interaction with her. She seemed very annoyed both times I spoke to her. Terrible place. My dog came after 5 hours and had to drink 2 gallons of water. They didnt clip his nails, his coat was not shiny or looked any different than when we brought him. All that has changed is now he smells like an old lady who sprayed too much perfume on. I can barely pet him without gagging. Then they have the audacity to say they dont want us to drop him off there anymore. They literally kept him in a kennel for five hours, didnt take him out to use the bathroom and didnt even give him any water. F*** this place. read more

We had a disappointing experience yesterday. Our regular (and awesome) groomer was unavailable so we chose this place based on all the good reviews. I have a 50lb intact male samoyed who is used to being groomed and enjoys going to his regular spot. This place stressed him out to a whole new level. As soon as we walked inside he showed an incredibly nervous side that I have never seen before. The shop was very chaotic- incredibly loud, way too much going on, and not a good environment to welcome dogs. I did not have a good safe feeling when I left him there. They let the dogs play free, however intact dogs must be kenneled (I understand this is a safety issue)- but they are in a kennel watching all the other dogs play, so this was pretty much torture for my super social and friendly dog. When I asked the groomer how long he estimated taking, his reply was- "well we close at 4 so he has to be done by then" - and his appointment was at 830 (!!!) so his nonchalant attitude made me feel even worse. By 1pm I still didn't hear anything (and it usually only takes 2.5-3 hours to groom him) so I called. I was told he would be ready in 5 minutes. This was upsetting because i had to call them to find this out- they couldn't even give me a curtesy call with 20-30 minute warning so that I could drive there take him as soon as he was done, especially when he would just have to wait in a kennel. Then they told me on the phone that he was so stressed he threw up and had some diarrhea! I held his breakfast that morning and this whole experience was so stressful it made him sick! This has never happened to him before, in any situation. Needless to say, I jumped in my car to get him as soon as I could. I'm giving two stars instead of one because his coat looks nice- he smells good and they did a good job of brushing his loose undercoat. They did not trim his nails (which surprised me because I've always had this included at other groomers) and also they did an uneven job when they trimmed the fur around his paw pads. In hindsight I'm glad they didn't do his nails because it's easy enough for me to do and probably a whole lot less stressful for my fur baby. On top of all of this, they charged me $20 more than I was quoted on the phone! I was quoted $65, when I usually pay $60 at his regular groomer (which doesn't stress him out, gets him done in 2.5 hours, and trims his nails). So they charged me $85 for a bath, blow dry, brush- that took almost 5 hours, and stressed out my boy so much it made him sick. I didn't even argue because I wanted to get out of there ASAP. I will not recommend this place to anyone who loves their dogs, ever. We are incredibly disappointed in the entire experience. read more

I recently found myself in need of a new groomer for my furry companion. I had to leave the last groomer because they stopped practicing customer service. Quick way to keep me from patronizing your business! Note to self: update that Yelp review. Anyway, after perusing Yelp, I decided to give Murdock's Grooming Salon a try. I am so glad I did! First, the staff at Murdock's is extremely welcoming and friendly - big plus in my book. They took time on the phone to explain their process and make sure that I understood that it was a cage-free environment. The fact that my dog can roam around and play with other dogs before and after his appointment really appealed to me. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly. The groomer took time to get acquainted with my dog while I was present and exercised patience with his anxiety about being in a new environment. When I returned to the salon, approximately four hours later, I was met by an extremely happy, clean, fluffy, great-smelling dog. I almost did not recognize him. They managed to spruce him up nicely and rid him of all the mud and tangles. He even left with some new found friends and a cute 'kerchief around his neck! I was so happy with the service here. We have a Bearded Collie (very long haired dog) who has always hated to be groomed and who is afraid of just about everything. We moved nearby and needed a new groomer, so we decided to try out Murdock's. He wasn't excited about being left and was very ready to leave when I arrived to pick him up, but he didn't drag me out of the building like he normally does after being groomed - no frantic exit this time. Everyone there was very friendly and seemed to actually care about the dogs. I think that he really enjoyed the cage-free experience and it helped him not be so scared the whole time he was there. They love my mutt! My dog doesn't like baths but they are patient and kind. He's so fluffy and clean and cute when he comes out. Then they put that little kerchief on him when he's all done with his grooming and I just melt. They are very affordable and when I call I can usually get him in the same day, or the next. read more

I am really disappointed to write this. We have brought our 2 dogs in for the last 1.5 years. Each time hey have done a great job except for today. We picked up Molly and Scrappy their cuts look like an Ameritech did them. We asked for their faces to be cut a certain way and it was not done the way we asked. My overall experience with Murdock's Grooming was rather positive and exciting. Their phone presence was good enough to catch my attention when I was calling all over the DTC to find a new groomer. I was price checking and for my 6lb mini Labradoodle I was looking for something around $35. The price range I found was anywhere from $30-55. Murdock's quoted me anywhere from 40-55 over the phone - which I didn't like - but I understood that they can't give me a solid price until they see my dog's size. They ended up only charging me $38 for her cut, bath, nails, ears and anal. Granted she is a very small dog! The front desk associate said that usually for doodles its more expensive because their hair and size gets complicated and that is why she gave me such a broad range. My pup, Kettlebell, was scared to death when I dropped her off. She was scraggly and looked like an apricot Oscar the Grouch. When I picked her up (exactly 3 hours later) she was content and relaxed. I really like that they didn't have her in a cage in the back (although I did see cages and one dog crated). She was free to roam around the floor with the other dogs while the groomers worked. Her cut was awesome! She looks gorgeous, feels amazing, and is totally worn out from the experience. So she is sleeping like a baby now. The nails look clipped but not filed. This doesn't bother me but I would suggest if you want them filed to ask. I will definitely be using Murdock's Grooming again. Like my four stars say, Yay! I am a fan! We have been long time customers here, and we will never be back. We have two not so easy dogs; super abused, special needs kind of dogs who aren't super easy going, so we understand the difficulties with grooming them. We took our boys in on Saturday at 9:30. I said one needed to be trimmed extensively and his nails done, and the other just needed a bath and his nails done. We picked them up, and the one who needed trimming looked great, but his nails weren't done. They charged me $75 for that with no discount for the nails not being completed. The other one looked great, but they charged me $55 for a bath! $55!?!? You are out of your damn mind charging $55 for a bath. I asked why it was so much, and I was told "we raised our prices." I would have hosed that dog down while it was 60 degrees on Saturday had I known you would charge $55 for a bath! Brie is very nice, and I don't like switching any place we have been loyal to, but enough is enough. read more

OMG!!! We love this doggie salon! Been coming here for a year in a half, we live about a hour away, but that doesn't matter.
