As a…read moresenior kitty who had been losing quite a bit of weight, we were understandably nervous about putting him under anesthesia, but the team handled him with care and made us feel comfortable throughout the process. Communication was great, the staff spoke English, and everything was explained clearly. Although our original doctor had to leave after our initial appointment, we still felt comfortable with the care received from the doctor who took over. The pricing was a fraction of US cost, transparent, and upfront. A little advice for anyone considering making the trip: plan for a LONG day (But a movie ticket was $4 so take advantage of that). between the procedure, drive, traffic, and the usual border-crossing adventures, our entire day took about 13 hours. It definitely requires some patience and planning, but for us, it was absolutely worth it. Most importantly, our cat received the dental care he needed, and we felt that he was treated with compassion and care equal to US vets. We're so grateful to the team at Vet Playas and would recommend them to anyone considering veterinary care in Tijuana.

In the U.S., we were quoted $10,000-$20,000 for lifesaving IVDD surgery for our dog, Leela, but we…read morewere blessed to connect with Vet Playas, who performed the same surgery for under $5,000. We love this place and are forever grateful--keep reading for details. Vet Playas absolutely saved our dog's life. On March 4, our 4-year-old pug mix, Leela, tried to jump onto our bed and injured two discs in her spine. She became completely paralyzed from the midsection down. She was unable to control her bladder or bowels; she couldn't stand or even wag her tail. We took her to two veterinarians in Los Angeles who diagnosed her with IVDD. We were told surgery would cost approximately $10,000-$20,000 and, when we explained that we couldn't afford that, we were told that euthanasia was the likely outcome. Because we weren't ready for that, we initially tried the long-shot recommendation to see if Leela could heal on her own. We were told to try at least four weeks of 100% crate rest and gave her steroids and painkillers as prescribed. While this treatment works for some dogs, after about four weeks with essentially no improvement in Leela's mobility, we realized we couldn't keep waiting and began looking for another option. That's when I found Vet Playas through MexiVet Express, and I am SO GLAD I did. Vet Playas provided Leela's examination, MRI, medications, spinal surgery, intensive overnight care, and four physical therapy sessions for under $5,000. Her MRI showed two herniated discs, including one causing approximately 80% compression of her spinal canal. Thankfully, Leela still had deep pain sensation. The surgical team operated on both affected levels. Wonderfully, Vet Playas is only about a six-minute drive across the border, in a cute neighborhood close to the beach. When we brought Leela down for her appointments, we brought our kids along and rented an Airbnb for the weekends. We were able to stay close to Leela during her treatments and got to know the staff well. If you're nervous about crossing the border for veterinary care, our experience was overwhelmingly positive. (Admittedly, crossing back into the U.S. is time-consuming, but we packed a lunch and mentally prepared for a 4-6 hour wait in the car each time. It's doable!) One of my favorite things about Vet Playas was their communication. Dr. Odette Ramos was wonderful. When Leela had her spinal surgery, a veterinarian stayed awake with her the ENTIRE night, texting me photos and updates approximately every hour. I never expected that level of support and was so moved and grateful for the care she received. When I visited the recovery area, I saw many other dogs in an extremely clean environment being cared for by an engaged and compassionate staff. Everyone looked very well cared for and loved. One tip: I strongly recommend signing your pet up for the physical therapy package. I hesitated at first, but Leela loved the physical therapist and genuinely enjoyed their time together. After each session, I noticed that she was able to move better. They also taught us exercises that we were able to continue doing with her at home throughout her recovery. It's now September, and Leela has made an incredible functional recovery. She can walk, play, and completely control her bladder and bowels again. I'm not exaggerating when I say that this has felt like a miracle to our family. Our dog who couldn't even wag her tail in March walked half a mile to the park this morning. Vet Playas gave Leela her life back, and they gave our family our dog back. We will be forever grateful to Dr. Ramos and the entire team. This is a wonderful veterinary hospital that will make sure your dog receives world-class care.

My daughter sent messages daily to ask about the "babies". I felt she was too much, but she was always answered promptly and sent short videos of them enjoying their stay. One of the dogs developed an ear infection (common for her) while there. I was sent text messages with pictures immediately and Stitxh even cleaned her ears which gave her some relief. Stitch knows his business very well and treated my dogs spectacularly. I had no worries or concerns. Well, maybe a little to get my dog to the vet but she just had dirty ears from the constant hair growth in there. I would highly recommend using this service if you want the best care for your fur babies and want them in capable hands. Was impressed with all the knowledge!

Review in Spanish under English review:…read more I've said this before and I'll say it again. I appreciate how Dr. Hector has always been incredibly helpful with my dogs. Last week, my bully had an ACL tear, and surgery was the only option to avoid long-term limitations and medication. Even though I live in the Bay Area, I don't mind traveling for non-urgent surgeries because I trust Dr. Hector completely. My dog always heals quickly and well under his care. Dr. Hector provides all necessary medications and is always reachable with the most helpful information. The doctor provides taxi/pick up drop off from and to San Diego.

When we arrived there were several locals bringing their pet in. Dr. Rivera was incredibly caring from the start, you can tell he loves all animals. They were very upfront about pricing when I asked about teeth cleaning and teeth extraction. My dog's teeth look great and her behavior was fine, tail wagging and everything even after getting 5 teeth removed. Doctor explained the entire procedure and was very informative with the aftercare. He also prescribed us the antibiotics and pain meds. Cost was very competitive as we compared prices with other vets in the area. Honest, reliable, and clean veterinarian clinic! Definitely will be back again for all our pet's needs. We were hesitant to drive to TJ but there is a lot to do in the area around the clinic. Friendly locals and amazing food. We made a trip out of it and enjoyed ourselves.

I noticed that my dog wasn't put to sleep immediately. It took her couple minutes to finally sleep. I couldn't bear watch her that now I think they didn't do the procedure properly as putting her with anesthesia first. I wish I didn't put my dog through this place. They are quick to see the dog and will give fast care but they have become expensive and a little careless. They seem to money driven now. They don't weight the dogs as they should to give proper medication dosages. They also have increased their prices that don't seem to be any better than the US.
