**Munch Review: A 3-Star Experience** **Biscuits and Gravy with a unusual Twist** Munch's take on the classic southern dish, biscuits and gravy, is...unique. I would have preferred it called out as "with a twist" as the addition of Italian sausage was an unwelcome surprise. The fennel taste is polarizing - you either love it or hate it. Unfortunately my preference falls on the latter part of that spectrum. Doesn't mean it's bad, just not for my palette. As for the biscuit, there isn't as much room for debate. While the flavor is good, the texture is definitely crunchier than it should be. **Prime Rib Hash - A Missed Opportunity** The prime rib hash at Munch was more like leftover steak cubed and tossed into cubed potatoes. Lacking flavor and the flavor that is there is reheated, day old prime rib. In hind sight, not sure there is a way to do prime rib hash well. I can't imagine any form of reheating tasting good. Perhaps it's just the wrong cut for said application. Sadly, there was also no attention to detail in removing cubes of fat. Not a great bite. It left much to be desired. The restaurant business has two legs as I see it- the food and service they provide in their restaurant & the food and service they provide outside of their restaurant, the second, if done successfully, representative of a very well-oiled machine. Munch catered our 124-person wedding in Bethlehem, CT a little over a week ago and knocked it out of the park grand slam style. From the tomahawk station to the pasta station, the in-house made desserts, the late-night BEC & nuggets/ fries (genius idea courtesy of Mikey and Mike), our cannoli wedding cake courtesy of Cristina (which if you ever have from Munch, you will never want store bought cannoli again) and all of the various foods in between that we chose for our event. The food was both cooked and presented to perfection, courtesy of the cooks - Mike, Joe, Tim, Derrick, and Mikey. Everyone was exceptional. Happy to be there, committed to the mission, communicative, and on-time with set up and clean up. During post-dinner conversation, a bunch of our guests had expressed with surprise how great the food was- as if to struggle to believe catered food at a large event could ever be 'that good'. We want to personally recognize Mikey Cotela, who from the very beginning offered us an open-ended line of communication to structure, plan, design, arrange, and otherwise detail every beverage choice, food choice, and layout option at his disposal. The success of our wedding night is in no small part thanks to the Munch team that brought this food experience to fruition. Full disclosure - we chose a buffet style dinner to stay within budget while never having to compromise on the food we wanted for our guests. Really wanted to enjoy the food that has gathered the excellent ratings of the yelp community for this place, so decided to take a 35 minute drive to check it out. Verified hours on google, and checked the FB page to make certain there were no last minute emergencies. Took the trek, got to the restaurant and they were closed with a handwritten note on the door - unfortunate! Some of the best sandwiches I have ever had. We contacted Munch to cater an office lunch and we ordered a variety of sandwiches. Shrimp Po'boy, Nashville hot, Brisket nightmare, Cubano, Chicken bacon ranch, Philly, NYC, Muffalletta and the Godfather. All sandwiches were perfectly seasoned. These are, in my opinion, gourmet sandwiches. Not your average deli sandwich fillings. My favorites are the Shrimp Po'boy and Nashville hot but every single sandwich was well received by our office crew. Mike was nice enough to deliver to our office on time and the food traveled well since they were wrapped individually and place nicely in covered trays. Next up is to try their breakfast selections! I was part of a book club table of 6 ladies. Strangely enough we all ordered different meals and each one of us declared how good each one of meals was. It was very clean in the dining area as well as the bathroom. I was very pleased to have ordered a grinder called The Philly. The meat melted in your mouth. There were fried onions and a three cheese sauce on top. The roll was delicious and very fresh. Some of the ladies ordered breakfast and the eggs and home fries were served in a iron fry pan which was pretty neat. The menu has a variety of breakfast and lunch dishes. The servers were excellent. We met the owners of the upscale diner when they welcomed our group. There is "happy energy" in the place which makes dining there all the more better. I can't wait to go back! read more

The food is consistently delicious here. Everything I've ever ordered is A++. Favorites are the charger bomb and huevos ranchero wrap. The honey bee latte is so good I wish I could have one everyday! Went for Sunday breakfast. I wish they served you at the table I didn't like you have to go up and order and then they bring the food. I had to keep getting up to get things. they have enough wait staff to take orders at table. I ordered the charger bomb it need a sauce(aloi) or I should have had my eggs over easy. The hashbrowns were delicious. The espresso had too much water. My mom loved her cappuccino. I also took home pastries. Haven't tried them but I don't like the container for the cheesecake it doesn't keep it from soaking through the paper. I am sure they are using them for recycling reasons but it needs a different container. I will go back again. read more

Stopped there this Sunday and it was fair. I ordered the eggs, sausage gravy on top of a biiscut with home fries and coffee. Coffee was weak and so was surprised because they serve Omar coffee.. We have been to Munch Eatery several times now. It's been outstanding each time. The best biscuits and gravy we have ever had, anywhere. Corned beef hash is excellent. Came here twice. Place was pretty cozy and right by the water which was nice. Have driven by a few times since and saw that they put in an outdoor area. First time I ordered the Charger which was pretty good. It was loaded. Second time coming here though has made me avoid this place since. I ordered a sandwich called the Cali I believe, which came with arugula. I didn't realize 80 percent of the sandwich would be ONLY arugula though. Lol. Got back to the car and opened the to go box to find this disaster of a sandwich everywhere. It's not like I was slinging the box around, but everything was out of the buns, what little meat they had put in there. Thought about bringing it back and asking what the deal was. However, the two people at the front seemed like they wouldn't be much help anyways. Almost like they didn't want to be bothered when I walked in to order. And there was only another table at the time so they didn't seem busy. Seems like it's a hit or miss with this place in terms of the food/ service from what I've heard from friends who have gone. My husband and I waited impatiently for months for this place to open and today we went for the first time. I see others had a good experience there but looks like we were the unlucky ones. We were so hoping for good food, since we live so close, but each of us had our own disappointing sandwich and we both had little to no actual service, let alone the "friendly and welcoming" service others seemed to get, as stated in their reviews. When we first came in, we were greeted and sat down at the counter. The counter stools are very cute, but very tiny and lightweight, not for commercial use at all, in our opinion. Another couple at a table (there was no table when we came in, so we sat at the counter at first) said we shouldn't sit there because the stools would tip right over (my husband and I are not plus-sized people), but we sat there carefully until a table became available. I ordered the Reuben sandwich, which in my considerable experience, should consist of several SLICES of corned beef, along with the swiss cheese, dressing and sauerkraut. This is the first time I have ever seen the meat chopped up into little chunks, which made it hard and rubbery, rather than cutting across the grain (which is how you cut this brisket cut of meat to make it tender and chewable). It was as if they used the leftover ends intended for corned beef hash instead of for a sandwich. The grilled bread was the best part, but I didn't want to eat just the bread, so I ate half the sandwich, trying to like it, but that was enough for me. It didn't have much dressing on it either, and none on the side, nor was there any other side dish or garnish, making the small sandwich look very lonely on the plate and not very impressive or appetizing. My husband had the Chicago beef sandwich, and like another reviewer, he said the bun was soggy from the au jus, as though the cook had dipped the bun into it, making it impossible to pick up. He ate the meat with a fork and said he did like it, so there's that. Again, no garnish, no side anything, just the sandwich on a plate. The meat was again, chopped up/sliced up very small, which he said was okay because it tasted good. As for service...after the sandwiches were brought to our table, it was as if we weren't there. Nobody came by to see how we were doing or asked if we needed anything. I should think that with a new restaurant, the owner and/or server would come over and make sure all was okay, in an effort to build customer relations to ensure a return visit. Nope. Nothing. Eventually, when we had given up on the food, my husband signaled a server and I asked her if she wanted some feedback, to which she answered yes. I told her my impressions and said I didn't mean to be unkind, I just thought if nobody mentioned any problems, how could they ever know? She smiled and thanked me, which was good, but that was all. If it were my business, which I know it's not, I would have offered something to make up for the disappointment, like coffee or a pastry, anything to show good will to make the customer feel that the owner cared enough to provide good food and service, which would result in a loyal customer base. All in all, for $29 for two sandwiches and no drinks (we did tip 20%, although we received poor service), we were sorely disappointed and probably would not return, unless perhaps the owner reads this and reaches out to try to make it right. it's love, love, love at Munch! Love the food, love the waitstaff and love the ambisince. I had the Tuscany omelet which was light, fluffy and delicious. My brother had corned beef hash and eggs which were prepared very well and were tasty. Coffee was excellent(loved the big coffee cups)! I would definitely go back there. read more
