Food: 3/5 Service: 3/5…read moreOverall experience: 3/5 (1- Terrible; 3- decent; 5- Fantastic) I've always wanted to try chicken and waffles, so I jumped at the opportunity when I saw Waffles & Chix at Calgary's Lilac Festival 2013. There was nothing memorable about the outside of the truck; white with red letters spelling out the name and concept of the truck, and a weird image of a chicken riding a 'waffle' skateboard. I managed to line up before a sudden rush; there was a bit of a wait (around 10 min to order and another 10 min for the food). The menu features: fried chicken and waffles ($9), a fried chicken poutine ($10), fried chicken & cheese waffle sandwich ($10), and sweet waffles for $5-$7. Note: Cash only. I ordered the southern fried chicken and waffle ($9), which for the price and portion is really decent compared to other Calgary food trucks. Definitely a carb overload and will put you in a food coma. Not the smartest idea on a hot day. Once I received my order, I was slightly disappointed to see that I did not get a fried chicken thigh or leg. Instead, I received two pieces of crispy chicken tenders. The chicken was a decent portion, but I almost ran out of it before I could finish the waffle. The dish could have had more gravy with a touch of hot sauce and I didn't like how the waffle became soggy from under the chicken and gravy. Overall, I wasn't blown away by the chicken and waffles. Although I love the concept, I wouldn't go back to try more.

So great to have a food truck that actually cooks their food from fresh. The bulk of food trucks…read moreI've been to are fresh from the freezer lol. I've eaten from this truck many times and will definitely go back! I'm sure I've had everything on the menu by now but my favourite, if I had to choose just one, is the short rib poutine.

Lil' Truck on the Prairie is everything. I cannot adequately express how enamoured I am with them…read morebut I'll try. We hired Lil' Truck to cater our wedding and they're food was the one thing that kept us from eloping during our wedding planning experience. They hand crafted a menu to suit us specifically and it was the number one thing we bragged about to friends before the event and after. They were able to meet every single dietary restriction but not only that, they did it well. The vegan/vegetarian options were arguably the best on the menu which is rare and hard to accomplish especially when it comes to a big event (and it wasn't pasta!). When I say that I also want to highlight how good their meat mains were too. All the carnivores where just as satisfied as the vegans, which is no small feat. They thought of absolutely everything when planning our wedding and made us feel more like friends than clients. I also appreciated their focus on local and sustainable food sources but while also taking into consideration our (meagre) budget. They made all our food dreams come true. They served our 175 guests cocktail hour, dinner, dessert, AND midnight snack for less per person than an average prime rib dinner. While making each aspect of the event accessable and enjoyable to absolutely all dietary choices, minimizing waste, and focusing on local and sustainable food sources. What more could you possibly ask for?

I keep cursing my husband as he often does work up by the brick and mortar location of Holy Smoke…read moreand will get to eat there for lunch. Imagine my happiness as I strolled outside to see the Holy Smoke BBQ truck. FINALLY here was my chance and the line wasn't enormous yet. Amazing meaty smells wafted at me as I waited to give my order, I told the guy operating the till that his truck smelled wonderful. I think I scared him slightly. I got the pulled pork meal, all the meals come with your choice of side: potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans, but I opted for the corn bread. They were super quick with doling out the orders, once you receive it you can shimmy three steps to the left and put on all the BBQ sauces. I swear there are at least 15 options of sauces ranging from spicy to sweet and even some smoky sauces were available. I lathered up my pulled pork bun and found somewhere to sit and eat. I was not disappointed in all the hype I have heard of Holy Smoke from my husband. Glad to see the food truck incarnation holds up to the restaurant. Moist delicious pork, great coleslaw topping on the bun (maybe don't order coleslaw as your side), the sauces I had donned were flavorful and that corn bread. I could write a sonnet about that corn bread. As I ate it, I was ashamed I had baked corn bread the week before as it was an insult to this immaculate creation of corn and flour. Please come again to FMC, Holy Smoke!

This truck just might be my new favourite barbecue joint in the city. I got the brisket sandwich…read morefor $13 with a complimentary side of fried mac'n'cheese. Completely filling and completely delicious. The meat is loaded with smokey flavour, is soft and juice, and since it appears to be from some sort of hopefully reputable ranch, is mostly likely good quality beef. The Fried mac n cheese makes for and excellent side. It tastes pan fried instead of deep fried - the gooey mac n cheese goodness you crave, but with some crunchy bits for interest. Loved it as I side but not sure that I think it's a stand alone item. The BBQ sauce is tasty and original - traditional BBQ flavour but with load of peppercorn. I want to put it on everything! That said, a sauce bar would do this truck well. Maybe a few different BBQ sauces or hot sauces to put on things and let you customize your sandwich a bit. You just can't find a BBQ sauce that will please everyone - it's science. Alberta is home to some amazing beef so I'm glad to see a new, worthwhile BBQ truck in this city. If you're at a food truck rally and can't decide which truck to spend your money at - Ranch BBQ is well worth a try.

Thought I was getting potato wedges and really it was a side of ripple chips.. sadly disappointing for something connected with a reputable ranch venue.
