Background on the review: We discovered Christopher Mulvaney through MetLife Legal and had access to his services through my employer. Our request was fairly straightforward, just estate planning documents, nothing fancy or complicated. Pros: Everything is online or done digitally, he communicates over email and zoom. (Saves you a trip to his office!). He also takes the time to explain and answer you questions, and also appreciated his use of real-world illustrations (without of course giving away any confidential information) to explain why you may or may not want certain language in your documents. Found our zoom calls, as well as the documents very informative, there are a lot of background info embedded in the docs. (Tip: definitely take the time to read through the documents and come with questions to make the most of the your meetings). This was our first estate plan, so we haven't had to make any revisions, or bring any curve balls to test if his his "boiler plate" templates wouldn't have been sufficient for our situation, so can't speak to some of the issues cited in the negative reviews, guess time will tell - but our experience with Chris was entirely pleasant. read more

I would suggest Mr. Mulvaney not advertise services on his website if he does not provide them regarding property tax appeals. Also, lack of giving referrals because "his insurance doesn't let him" is something I've never heard of from a law office. Something suspicious with this attorney. read more

My wife and I hired Christopher Mulvaney to prepare our will and trust document back in 2015. We found him through her employer at the time. Fast forward five years and several changes needed to be made. The most notable was removing one successor trustee and replacing this individual with another person. I contacted Mr. Mulvaney via email and received the following reply: "You can just put a note with your estate plan indicating you would like the named Executor to renounce and give the name of the person you would like appointed." What? Our estate plan was signed by three notaries in multiple places. Even I know that new notary signatures would be required to make this type of change. It was clear that Mr. Mulvaney could not even be troubled to review our estate planning document prior to responding. Had he done so, he would have noticed that the successor trustee was also given Power of Attorney in our will. It turns out that a codicil is required to change this information. Of course there was no mention of this from Mr. Mulvaney. The lack of care and expertise in his reply was stunning. We continued to correspond via email and it soon became clear that a quick phone conversation would help to clarify things. I left a voicemail message. There was no response so I then sent a follow-up email. Mr. Mulvaney replied stating that he not be able to assist further. He asked us to find another lawyer and wished us "the best of luck." This quick dismissal spoke volumes as to his complete lack of interest in our situation. Thanks for the terrible service! Lessons learned include the following: 1. Mr. Mulvaney will never agree to a phone conversation under any circumstances. At least not in our experience. His website mentions a reluctance to speak with prospective clients over the phone due to potential legal issues. Okay, but why can't he speak to someone who has already paid a fee for his legal services? This is a huge red flag folks. A reasonable and honest lawyer will agree to a short phone call to discuss basic matters. 2. Mr. Mulvaney uses some type of automated software when responding to inquiries. His written responses are highly structured and impersonal. They also end with the condescending salutation "Take care" and don't include his name, address or phone number information. Another red flag. 3. Mr. Mulvaney has no interest in providing ongoing service for existing clients. I'm forced to conclude that we made a mistake in hiring this individual. The fee was reasonable but we ended up with a simple document that barely met our needs and there was zero follow-up assistance. Our financial advisor subsequently reviewed our will and trust and immediately deemed it to be a "boilerplate" document. In his opinion, Mr. Mulvaney simply plugged our names into a standard template and then charged us a fee. Mr. Mulvaney's website lists 5 reasons to hire him. Number 5 is "I care about you." He most certainly does not. I cannot recommend hiring Christopher Mulvaney for estate planning services. read more

I got in contact with Christopher Mulvaney a few years ago via my company's group legal plan. Regardless of what your initial inquiry is about, Mr Mulvaney will try to direct you to draft a will and do some estate planning. As also noted by someone else here, he charged you for services that he didn't perform. Though you don't pay that out of your pocket, he got paid from the insurance company for those services that you didn't ask for. You can never reach him via the phone. It's always email only. And his responses were rarely relevant to your original question. Stay away if you can! read more

Christopher was very efficient in helping us with our Living Trust/Will and Power of Attorney documents. I truly was amazed at how responsive he was, getting back to me each time within a day. He set up video calls with no issues and was extremely helpful in explaining the details within the documents along with the process of signing and recording the Transfer on Death Deed. All questions we posed were answered to our complete satisfaction. Chris is about as good as it gets. Without going into great detail about my personal situation, I will say that he was able to quickly, professionaly (and in layman's terms) explain to me how best to handle a situation I have found myself in and turn it around. As a younger guy who is getting ready to get married, I wanted to make sure any issues I had were my own and not my future wife's. He not only made sure that will be the case, but also ensured that my financial future (which was bleak because of a huge special assessment on my condo) is much brighter. I had scheduled a meeting with another attorney in the Bellevue area and was treated like a second-class citizen when I explained my situation. I was also told that my legal coverage (who this attorney was a preferred provider for) would not cover, and that I would have to pay up front in case he couldn't get them to cover it. Chris was able to offer a free consult and also to inform me that the other attorney had been full of it--and that my plan did, indeed cover the services I needed. By the time my consult was over, I wanted to give the guy a hug. That's a rare thing for me. read more

When I met Christopher he seemed nice enough. My request was nothing unusual, just a Quick Claim Deed. We did this through Microsoft Group Legal, then he tried to charge us with services he DID NOT perform - he said that group legal doesn't cover the cost of services he provided which is BS. Once I confronted him, he quickly tried to cover his @ss and send me some BS document that I never even asked for. Look at your bill closely people, this guy isn't as honest as he seems. read more

When I placed a request for estate planning, I got an email to provide my plan details. At each step, I was trying to reach him over the phone to figure out if he can help with our specific situation. I got an email saying that he cannot provide service. Totally shocked by the tone of this email, as we have not even spoke at this point. I also provided my plan details and the services are covered under the plan. Christopher Mulvaney is the attorney who drew up living trusts and wills for my husband and me. I emailed him the information he asked for and within about a day he had emailed me back a complete set of documents that included everything pertaining to last wishes, like health care directives, wills, living trusts, powers of attorney, etc. Fifteen pages in all! When I started to read through it on my own, I was dumbfounded as to how trusts and wills work together to implement an individual's last wishes. Fast forward to my appointment with Chris. He described how it all works together, in plain English, and now I understand the whole thing. He is a great educator on a topic that at first seems utterly complex. And he is fast! If you email him on a business day, you'll get a response within the same day or the next day. He is easy to talk to and he takes whatever time is necessary to understand exactly what it is that you want, or don't understand, or are worried about. He is unpretentious and expert, casual and approachable when you meet with him in his office, and he knew the answer to every question I asked him. As a result of working with him, my husband and I now have all those issues that people don't like to think about, like what will happen to their property after they die, we have those issues all tied up in one little package.
