This chocolate chip cookie was soft and crunchy at the same time, you know, the way a perfect cookie is, and it was delicious. Overall, Stach Foods is a clutch spot to stop at for a baked good and a drink and if you like fruity soft serve flavours, you gotta give those a try too.

If you walk to the far end of the park from the Rijksmuseum and turn left at the street that borders the park there, the restaurant is about 2 blocks along there. You enter into a small waiting area and proceed between 2 counters. The best way I can describe the process is that it was like an ice cream shop in the U.S. They had glass displays showing what was available for meals - varieties of pasta, etc. You could select from those, or I think they had salads also. You place your order and then grab a table. A server will bring the food out when it is ready. Seating was a bit limited, so there could be a wait for a table. We arrived just before they got busy, though. They have about 5 or 6 small tables on the ground floor. If those are full, a fallback option is to ascend the spiral stairs up to a low-ceilinged loft. This is where we ate. The chairs here were fine but the tables were quite small - almost like a high coffee table. It wasn't hard to eat off these, just a bit different than usual. Also, if you are much over 6 feet tall, the ceilings will require caution. They can probably accommodate another 3 - 4 small parties up there. Everyone liked their food, which definitely had that 'prepared fresh' vibe. I got the pasta and had no trouble finishing it. I'd definitely consider eating here again were I back in the area.

The man behind the counter didn't speak great English and we didn't know exactly how to order, but we told him we wanted some bacon and he understood perfectly! It's the most classic Dutch sandwich bar I have found in town, and almost everything is homemade. I think this is my favorite classic Dutch "fast food" restaurant in Amsterdam, mainly because my mother grew up in Holland and she always used to talk about eating steak tartare broodje with hard boiled egg, onion and mayonnaise in the 1950s. Their homemade steak tartare broodje is outstanding. The homemade Dutch pea soup is only available during cold months and it's also fabulous. In summer they have a mushroom soup, but I haven't tried it yet. If you wanna be really Dutch, order a glass of buttermilk with your broodjie. They also have regular milk and lots of soft drinks. It's just classic and delcious traditional Dutch food; really good and so fresh and you can watch it being made. Everyone that works here is also so nice. Try the kipsaté croquette which tastes like a Thai saté stick. Don't forget the yellow mustard. The server may tell you it makes it taste even better. So fun to sit at the bar counter inside, and they do have a few tables outside for sunny days. I love the decor, the funny expressions about croquettes on the tiles, and the super 1950s black-and-white photos from the restaurant on the walls. This is such a wonderful place and every time I come to Amsterdam I make a pilgrimage here. It's also on a really nice and slightly diagonal street, right in the city center, that still has its old charm.
