A gem in Amsterdam, this store goes way back to when everything else was closed, Sterks was open until 3-4 AM. But this is not just a wine, beer, liquor store, it has fresh bread, pastries, every beer ever made (it looks like), fresh made take home food (to heat up), groceries from the States, munchies and even a large champagne section! This is the same store as Sterk Delicatessen. They just have really late hours so I guess they're also an avondswinkel. Their prices are high but they have nice stuff, like high quality pastries and bread products, American cereals and fancy chocolates. I'm most impressed with their club mate selection. They even have the club mate cola and the iced tea! read more

I was looking for some US/UK products for a while now and a lot of my friends recommended Sterk to me. And having stumbled upon it accidentally today, I was pleased to find out they had such nice selection of things. From pretzels to nice wines to breads and meat Sterk has it all! They have divided their space 4 different stores, it's quite fun to hop from one end to the next discovering all the yummy things it has to offer. Twinnings is my favourite brand of tea and having found it here I was in heaven. The staff is really friendly and are happy to help you with whatever you'd like. I wanted to buy a nice bottle of wine and they actually spent a significant amount of time helping me do so. Everything is nicely priced, also anyone who follows me knows I'm a sucker for ice cream, and they have an amazing selection of pints to choose from. So next time you're in the mood to buy groceries you'd not find anywhere else Sterk is the place to go! read more

TL;DR - Great selection of beers, and one of the few grocery stores stays open really late. Our hotel happened to be near here which was how we found out about it. I wasn't really sure what to make of the place though - it's a cross between a grocery store and a liquor store / off licence. Their selection of alcohol, and especially beer, is great so if that's what you're looking for you'll be fine. They also do groceries, but I found it to be a bit of a weird selection. They had a wide range of goods, but it also seemed like an incomplete collection - you can find some things here but not others. The big advantage this place has is that it is open much later than other grocery stores in the area. But if there's a branch of Albert Heijn open at the same time, you'd probably find a better selection of goods there... unless you're looking for beer! read more

They've said it in Dutch and I'll say it again, Sterk is a great shop to have in the neighborhood. First, it is open until 1am every day. But this is not your average deli. Need bread, champagne, organic chocolate, ice cream, deli meat, cheese, cleaning supplies, condoms, bottle opener, yogurt, italian specialties, 750ml of La Chouffe to bring to a dinner party? Great corner grocery store. Although it's a bit more expensive than the larger chains, the owners are really friendly and helpful. They seemed to greet every customer and made sure everyone found what they needed. They also had cumin, which the large Albert Heijn down the street didn't! Plus, they're open until 1am every night. read more

This combined grocery and wine and beer shop was a huge surprise to me. I found it when randomly walking in Amsterdam and when I entered I was amazed at the beer selection. This is truly one of the best craft beer selections I have seen and it does not stop there. They also have a great selection of wine and champagne. The wine selection may be a bit more mainstream than the beer selection and I would have loved to see some grower champagnes but in general a great selection. They also stock a nice variety of imported food as well as good meat and nice bread. They also have a liquor store next door and all of it is open until late (1 am). What however makes this a special store is the great service, I will say that this is without doubt the friendliest service I have ever received in the Netherlands. As I sit here with my significant other enjoying our recently purchased delicacies ( sukkar dates from Saudi Arabi) we were caught by a wind of enthusiasm to review this fine establishment. For 9 months now we have been loyal customers of these purveyors of goodness and all I can say is... if you haven't been, drop your wash cloth and adorn your clogs, you've got a surprise ahead of you. "Oh really!?!" I hear you say "What possible benefits await me at Sterk that I can't find at Albert Heijn?", ahhh you poor naive fool, soon you will know of a bounty of treasures you have never before dreamed of. "Do they have a good beer selection?" I hear you say, yes friend, beers from all over the globe. The greatest selection of Dutch and Belgium beers you have ever seen (not to mention some Australian favourites for this traveler who has wandered far from home). "Oh, but I have a hiphop video clip to shoot and beers just won't cut it!!", fear not my gangsta friend, Sterk has a selection of moet to make lil Jon drop his pimp juice. "Do they have organic cluster pears dipped in honey from a rare species of bee found only in the amazon"..Ahhh probably!. Look!.. the point is this place is awesome, the staff are friendly and attractive (hey, that stuff matters to some people). They're well priced, open late and make 7/11 look like a post apocalyptic sewerage den (which it kind of is, have you ever had a microwave chicken roll at 3am?). The only place I've found that sells quinoa, lentil and hummus chips! And cronut.. in Europe! Sterk has an interesting selection with some items I don't see anywhere else. They have a huge beer collection!! They are also open until 1am, which is great. I think most of the food is overpriced, but I guess that's the price you pay for unique selection and late night hours. read more

This is a great late night store for useful random ingredients! It's even got a selection of products that other grocery stores don't sell like some American food products - pancake mix, cupcake Duncan Hines mix and frosting, plus they have tea, a small fruit and vegetable selection, cookies, eggs, chips, magazines, and a large alcohol selection. Nice Dutch food in a very small space, but the lady that serves its very nice. I had the fish with smashed potatoes and can recommend it.

Small store but with everything you could need for a quick meal or pick nick. I stopped in while my husband was at a near by coffee shop to buy dinner ingrediants. Nice selection of produce and meats, large wine area. Workers were very helpful and remarked "This store is small but we have a little of everything". Got everything I needed for a dinner for 4 plus a bottle of wine for under 30 euros! read more
