When most people speak of Williamsburgos (aka Poblacion, Makati), the first places they'll mention…read morewill most likely be the taco and yakitori joints on Felipe Street, or the Latin American chicken shack on Ebro. But one of my favorite places in Poblacion is actually a decrepit little pub, located beside Ringside and a couple of sleazy strip bars (it IS Makati's red light district, after all) mostly frequented by geriatric Caucasian expats and their Filipina wives, and maybe the odd hipster or two. That being said, The Woodman's Head is a great place to grab some beers and gin and tonics for cheap. I'm talking 60 pesos cheap. In fact, I kinda hesitate to write about this place because I am clannish about where I like to hang out, and prefer it if people don't hang out where I do when I go out because I am a notorious introvert. Another really great plus about this place is that Travis, a good friend of mine, has done a great service to The Woodman's Head by introducing Deep Fried Pickles(!!!!) to their menu. I know that dill pickles aren't everyone's cup of tea, but hear me out. When they are sliced thinly, deep fried in batter and dipped in Travis's magical Ranch Sauce (I realize that sounded vaguely pervy), it's sooooo good. Would definitely eat these even without the aid of alcohol. However, going to the Woodman's Head can be a little bit intimidating without a posse (unless you're a dude. If you're a woman going there independently, I suggest you bring friends, because). Still, it's a part of Williamsburgos that's off the beaten path, that I enjoy going to when my night is winding down, especially when I can't be bothered to shout over my beers just so my friends can hear me.

I visit/hang out at St. Patrick's when I need a night cap. I, of course, celebrated St. Patrick's…read moreDay here and it was awesome that they served Irish Beer that night. Usually, I go here after a long day and just sit at the bar. I order my beer, watch a bit of TV then head home. Simple. No noisy gossip, no blaring dance music... just a big ass beer and basketball on the TV. The food is pretty decent. It's just a bit heavy for me if I'm here alone. I recommend the Spam Chips! Love those! The sausages are good too. But, seriously, you're here for the beer and you can't go wrong with a draft beer. They have flavored beers for the girls. If you're looking for something sweet to drink, I recommend the Caramel Beer. They have promos for every day of the week. For example, they have Girl's Night Out Wednesdays. Ladies get Buy 1, Take 1 on all cocktails and wine. On Thirsty Thursdays, my personal fave, all their available foreign beers are only Php100. NICE! If you're feeling the oldie bug and want a chill night, this is THE place to go! Who knows, maybe you'll see me sitting by the bar when you visit. ;)

St. Patrick's describes itself to be your friendly neighborhood pub, and it absolutely lives up to…read moreits claims. Its gates are (literally) open for anyone and everyone to step in, have a few beers, and chow on some grub. Being a pub, they take pride in their beer and whiskey selections. Perhaps not the widest selection, ever, but pretty good for a bar that I can walk to. But, being somewhat of a buffalo wings connoisseur, I couldn't help but give theirs a try. I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked their recipe! I like my wings a little sour, and this hit the spot perfectly. Maybe a bit too spicy for my taste (although, I'm not complaining), but it is great for a quick buffalo wings fix. Look for Rachel -- she's the server who is stationed by the door. At least during the evenings. She'll take care of you.

Last weekend we rolled in around happy hour, grabbed some loaded nachos and wings that hit way better than your average bar food (that Sofitel polish really shows), and just vibed with the pool view in the background. Staff were super friendly, kept the drinks coming without us even having to flag them down, and the whole place has this fun, laid-back energy that makes you forget you're in a hotel. Perfect for pre-gaming before a concert at MOA Arena or just unwinding after a long week. Easily 5 stars--will keep coming back.

On these rare occasions of doing guy things with my friends (unfortunately us girls can't always choose shopping, coffee shops, mani-pedi, brunch, or wine bars as a bonding activity), we would end up bowling or at a pub/sports bar. SNAPS bar is one of the places we go to for some beer and to shoot some pool then go hang out by the bay for sunset or hang out just after sunset. Drinks are hotel priced so expect to pay a little bit more than your usual pub. Service is good and the bar chow is what you would expect from a hotel bar. There's also happy hour from 5-8PM so that can also be an alternative venue for some post-work drinks or apero. Just a word of caution: try not to drink too much, otherwise, you may end up gambling at the casino just next to it!
