We are big fans of Royal Taj, but the wait to get in is sometimes too much to bear, so we thought we would give Haldi a try. This restaurant is easily AS GOOD as Royal Taj, but without the wait. I should also mention we've been to a number of the Indian restaurants in HoCo and some just aren't worth mentioning. So for those of you who would like to try Haldi (and TRUST ME, you SHOULD), here is some helpful advice: 1) They are in the process of getting their liquor license, but don't have it yet (in case this is a deal-breaker for you). 2) This is South Indian cuisine. You will also notice that the dishes are spicier than "typical" Indian food found in the states. If this bothers you, order "mild," but fair warning, it will still be spicy. Even the chicken tikka masala is spicy. If spice really bothers you, stick to butter chicken or something similar. (Note - I speak from experience - The butter chicken is good, but it is not spicy). 3) The mango lassi was the best I've ever had (yes - even better than Royal Taj). I highly recommend the Mango Lassi. 4) As someone else mentioned, they are closed on Monday and close mid-day during the rest of the week. If you stick to typical lunch and dinner hours, you'll be fine. 5) Clearly the chef has some executive experience. All of our meals were presented beautifully and were garnished appropriately. I was quite surprised - I didn't expect this. The food here is divine. So be sure to patronize this establishment in Elkridge. It's worth the trip!
