Pleasantly surprised to discover this MUJI at Chelsea Market, drawn in by what I haven't seen before at one of their locations - a food section, which takes up about 1/3 of the store. Typically shop at MUJI for clothes, but have window shopped their housewares. This Muji also has some other innovative that are worthwhile to check out.
First, there is an interesting selection of assorted foods when you enter from Tamayo Pan and Yuzu items to flours and snacks. Beyond that they have seating to serve assorted Japanese treats: Handmade Onigiri, Rice Balls, Miso Soup, Tamago Egg Sandwich, Dorayaki Pancakes with Red Bean Marscapone, Matcha Muffins, etc. A case displays models of what your food looks like. The tasty, warmed, fresh thick Onigiri (seaweed encased rice triangles with fillings) I selected, tuna with mayo, came identically as displayed with a lump of tuna salad on top, which I neatly tucked inside before gobbling down. (Definitely will return for an Onigiri!)
If you'd like a "crafted" hot or cold beverage, this location also has an Artly barista robot you can watch prepare your drink. A circle with your name is projected on the counter they deem the "Latte Art Stage."
Adjacent is a ReMUJI alcove that offers extremely reasonably priced, one-of-a-kind, handmade, sustainable upcycled clothing. Either ReMade pieced together from otherwise wasted fabric scraps or manually redyed materials, they also seem tastefully constructed.
Next to ReMUJI, there is also a small embroidery service. There's also a range of clothing and housewares that you'll find in other MUJIs.
Expect that whenever I'm back at Chelsea Market, will stop by this MUJI. Recommend you do to. read more
