I was running errands around lunchtime and, feeling peckish, I thought about something to eat. Now I had many more errands, so road food was the order of the day. But how many burgers can you eat? There are even some pretty good independent burger joints, but sometimes, you just want a sandwich. Now, for context, our progeny ate a school lunch maybe a half dozen times, total, throughout their school years. Most of the time, I made lunch, and the centerpiece was the sandwich. Carefully selected meats, fresh veggies, a wide variety of sauces (they can't even eat a roast beef sandwich to this day without a bit of horseradish in there somewhere) were combined with excellent bread. That is what I wanted. That is what I got. The bread choices are white or brown, but that's because the emphasis is on the interiors. The Italiano, with pastrami, salami, and pepperoni, is a classic combination, with provolone, pepperoncini, and "all the fixins" (In response to whether or not I wanted "everything" I replied "Fuck me up, sandwich sensei!") because I firmly believe in allowing the restaurant to present you with their wares, and let you decide if you like them. Now, the-woman-who-lets-me-live-with-her (thanks Mike), cannot stand black olives, but in this sandwich, they provide such a tempering influence of slightly salty, slightly bitter counterpoint to the sweet bell peppers, that it would have been poorer without them. I thought I was only going to eat about half and then save the rest, but I just couldn't help myself. I ate the whole dang thing. The vibe is classic sandwich shop, there is someone at the end of the line freshly slicing more meats as needed while two people turn out submarine deliciousness for an anxious crowd.
