Not to be dramatic but I had some of the best sashimi ever here (otoro, chutoro, akami and yellowtail - even though I don't normally like yellowtail). The dishes were carefully assembled and plated, and the servers were very attentive the entire meal. Some dishes stood out more than others, and the ones that were most memorable, I've attached pictures of. I can't remember exactly what was in the dish but the one in the blue bowl included eggplant and changed flavors as I ate it, which was a nice, unexpected surprise. This restaurant is more on the pricier side! They have a special grill which doesn't make any sounds unlike Korean barbecue where you can here it sizzling. Udagawa serves a lot of japanese homecooking and bento boxes. During lunch time you can order great bentos with a miso soup. This place it not trying to impress you with fanciness. Their focus lies on the serious food game they play and damn they play it well. Their Katsu for example is piece of perfect crispyness which is just on point. No fancy garnish just the real deal. Ok I kind of lied about the fancyness since their bento does look kind of pretty BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT. They are good because of the taste and not because of their look. (And you can't blame bento for being simply concepted this way) I have only very few japanese restaurants I'd recommend and this is one of them.

For example, the shabu shabu veal was partially warm and partially still ice cold, so it was obviously not totally dipped into the broth as it should be. But I have to give them the benefit of the doubt on the fact that I am not Japanese and I might not fully comprehend the subtility of some of the courses and therefore misjudge. Still... All in all for 200€ each (392€ bill for 2, we were not fully happy. However I would recommend it for people enjoying traditional Japanese cuisine and I certainly recommend the saké tasting selection which was very nice. All were great, but the favorite was the shogayaki. We tried two okonomiyaki (Osaka with pork and Sapporo with seafood), and both were very good. The waiter in the back, however, asked if I lived in the area and offered me to just bring the MCB bowl back after finishing it - trusting me blindly. It's not like I'm in desperate need of a dessert bowl, but his behaviour once again proves that the staff will go out of their way to make your dining experience as unforgettable and comfortable as possible.
