I don't like leaving negative reviews, and I tried hard to avoid doing so here--but I'm sharing this in case it helps someone deciding where to take their vehicle, especially for anything more complicated than a basic exhaust job. What went well: They did help me choose a setup that met my expectations for sound. From a "parts selection" standpoint, I got what I asked for. The problem: I'm now paying a second shop to do the job I originally came here for: The whole reason I brought my vehicle in was for the exhaust to be tucked up properly and routed cleanly. Instead, the installation was left hanging significantly lower than it should, it wasn't aligned evenly, and the overall workmanship looked rushed and sloppy. At this point, I'm having to pay another shop to correct the fitment and complete the objective I came here for in the first place--which is frustrating and avoidable. That concern also turned into a safety issue: when I drove to another shop afterward, my wife followed behind me and called asking me to pull over because the exhaust was swaying so noticeably while driving. I tried to give them a chance to correct it I went back in good faith to let them make it right. I tried to explain the issue and work with Lyndsey, but I got nowhere and didn't feel my concerns were being taken seriously. Let alone heard. Second opinion confirmed the issue immediately: I took the vehicle to another shop. They got it up on the lift, immediately understood what I was pointing out, and even commented on the poor workmanship. Bottom line If you only need something simple and you're not picky about fitment, maybe you'll have a different experience--but based on what I received and how the follow-up was handled, I would not trust this location. I have two identical vehicles. One has a standard Y-pipe, and the other (serviced at plainfield) has a more "aggressive" rumble box. Both are otherwise stock. Originally, the serviced vehicle sat at roughly 4" from the body at the center exhaust. Just as the completely stock vehicle pictured does. When I removed the mufflers from the sportier vehicle, the pipe dropped significantly. Lyndsay and her tech are claiming the nearly 8" it's currently hanging is "stock," which doesn't align with OEM. Again, I brought this in to have it brought back up and new hardware welded in. They simply welded in some hardware and called it a day. This was an incredibly disappointing experience. read more

Got an appointment yesterday for today. Simply needed my "Y" pipe welded in a couple of places. When they put my car on the hoist we saw one of the exhaust manifold bolts loose. They said "We'll take care of it". All good, Quoted $50. Come to find out, The bolt was stripped. The fine gentlemen there retapped and put a new bolt in. Told me $65. OUTSTANDING. Gave them $100. Asked them to buy the guys lunch or tip em. THANK YOU so much. Will do bring my exhaust needs to them. read more

they / lyndsey will beat you out your money! i lost $165. playing games with my power steering. i took my jeep in for a power steering leak, i was told i needed new lines, i ok the work, turns out my lines just needed to be tighten. today i need a new power steering pump & lines. this is 2k miles difference, they to beat me outta 400. more. don't go! read more

Had my car towed there based on the previous two positive reviews. I thought I needed a new starter, which I do, but on examination, he noticed it was a wiring issue near the fuse box. He got the car started multiple times and I was on my way. He even showed me which wire it was that caused the issue in case it didn't start again on my way home to Chicago. It was too late in the day to replace the starter, but I was able to start the car every time since his quick fix. He joked it was a $50 fix as he kept starting the car. Since he was closing down shop for the day and didn't actually replace anything, he just asked that I threw some money his way. Elated that I wasn't stranded, I gave him $60 for the fix and diagnostics for the check engine light and was back on the road. I've been to a lot of mechanics, but this guy knows his stuff and runs a fair business. read more

I went into this muffler man because it's right around the corner from my house, I usually go to Dean's on 28th and Buchanan. I had them put my new battery in bcuz mines was pretty old and it was time. When I called to see if they could do it today I spoke with James who said sure, when I asked the price he told me 15-20 dollars and I thought that was fine since they were only gonna charge $5 at the battery place I bought it from but didn't have the tools. When I get the office the receptionist told me that, "I don't know why he said that price because it's usually around $45." I stated that well I thought that was fair since the battery place would only charge $5. So after that she said, "I'm only gonna charge you 25 this time though." So fast forward to the last 20 mins I'm home and I finally am leave to go where I need to for my day and my car won't start. I called back to see if they would come help or tell me to bring it back up to check it out. James answered again and was extremely unprofessional! He said, "well it must be something wrong with your car." I just told him how unprofessional he sounded and hung up. It wasn't worth my time! read more

Worst muffler man in the city, been going there to service vehicle For over a year now, but my recent couple of visits has been hell. The new works there are very unprofessional I've drop my vehicle there on a Friday morning to have my breaks and tail light service and was told they were short staffed and to pick it up Saturday afternoon when I got there Saturday my vehicle hasn't been fixed they even tried giving me my keys back with pieces of inside back (trunk door) of Jeep taken apart....they pick and choose who's vehicle they wanna work on right away . read more

DO NOT GO HERE. Went in and asked to get rear brakes and rotors replaced because the back sounded like it was grinding. Get it back and they didn't even tighten the lug nuts on the front right tire so the car was wobbling really bad. Took it back 30 s later and they tightened them. I thought it was weird the front was loose when they were supposed to replace the back but maybe they were just checking. I still hear grinding in the back and realize on the receipt that they replaced the fronts. Called and they said they wouldn't replace brakes that still looked good but they did because I checked it beforehand. So they say they'll replace the back brakes and ROTORS for free. I take it in and say we need brakes and rotors on rear replaced and pick it up a few hours later, they try to charge me for labor! I said no I already paid for your guys' mistake. So they let me take it but give me a hard time getting a receipt for the work done and ask if it was rotors and brakes. I get home and look at the backs and they never even changed the rotors! Only the pads. DO NOT GO HERE. I don't know why they have any good reviews. read more

I stopped there after getting an oil change and tire rotation because my front end was making a weird noise. They told me that is was my axel and that it needed replaced and that it would cost several hundred dollars. I found that odd so I went down the street for a second opinion to find out that my wheel needed to be tightened. Never again!! read more

Dave and Bob are great! The tailpipe on my 02 Dodge ram came off and they replaced my muffler and welded my factory tail pipe back on at my request. They also did all the extra work that I asked them without hesitation (even though I was just a drop in with no appointment) Their work was good and Dave is a very competent welder (I'm a mechanic and a welder so I would know). What stuck me was their price! Best around. I will be back. read more

Twice now I have brought my car in and driven away getting my issue resolved quickly. The first time I arrived at the shop 10 minutes prior to the place opening and a staff came out and starting fixing my problem (sheet metal needing to be pinned down to the frame). The owner arrived shortly thereafter and let me go free of charge and I was out of there prior to the shop even opening. The second time I just stopped in unannounced due to being concerned about my car vibrating on the highway and again they got me in right away. The owner told me he didn't think anything was wrong and that I just had ice in my tires, he melted all the ice and sent me in my way, again free if charge. I think this place operates with integrity and epitomizes exactly what you are looking for in a neighborhood shop. They definitely could have taken advantage of me because I know absolutely nothing about cars. Definitely give this guy your business! read more
