Update: The best part is when my mom called about the cake the male owner/manger yelled at her for…read morethis review and told her he refused to speak with her unless this review would be removed. We were not asking for a refund but simply to let them know how disappointed we were. I think he should be more concerned with properly training his employees and having better quality products. Just shows how unprofessional and rude they are. Order a cake for my grandmoms 80th birthday and told them I need the cake for 10 people. Price was never a concern we just wanted a nice cake for everyone to enjoy. Picked up the cake today and it was so tiny could feed about five people. On their website it states that cakes are two layers but this was only a one layer cake. I am so embarrassed to present this cake to my guests. Cake was extremely dry and tasteless as if you were eating stale bread. Last time I had ordered a cake it was very expensive and very dry/stale as well. I thought to give them another chance but unfortunately they disappointed once again. This will be my last time ever purchasing from the danish bakers.

The young lady that fulfilled my order was sweet and friendly. I stopped by on a Friday evening 20 minutes before closing which was not the best time to see everything on offer and to get a 1st impression. I purchased the Italian Style cookies (didn't try), a few apricot pastries (5 out of 5 star), a few lemon tarts (3 out 5 star), a few raspberry linzer cookies (5 out of 5 star) and 1/2 dozen oatmeal cookies (didn't taste). I wanted to try the chocolate chip cookies but some lady beat me to them and purchased all seven that were left. So they must be tasty. Come check them out and support our independent bakeries.

Iron Hill was a short drive and provided a mental vacation for me while a loved one was sick nearby…read moreat Jeanes and Fox Chase Cancer Center. There were a few times where I needed a break from the cafeteria at said hospitals. The distance, size and ambiance of Iron Hill was just right. Their beers have always been average to slightly above average. As far as small chains go Iron Hill will give you a good experience with beer and grub. On the first of three visits my sister and I enjoyed our pizzas. The Voodoo Chicken Pizza had a wonderful combo of flavors. If you love smoked gouda and lots of flavor, a sharable portion, nice char and bit of a sweet/spicy punch you'll enjoy it. My sister gave the Vodka Margherita pizza a thumbs up. The Philly Cheesesteak eggrolls were average, but both the horseradish and chili dipping sauces elevated the flavors. Second visit was a solo trip, I continued to enjoy their Ore House IPA - good brew with fruity/piney notes and a well balanced flavor profile. Not top tier but solid and very sessionable. I sat at the bar and enjoyed the crowd around me. The Grilled Chicken Sandwich was my lunch choice - provo, roasted red pepps, caramelized onions, arugula, pesto aioli & balsamic glaze on focaccia. The chicken was dry, but the rest of the sandwich was good. I kept thinking a switch to a juicy chicken thigh would make this sandwich worth the price. On my last and final trip I brought my son and we were happy to see they had a brunch menu. He tried the red velvet pancakes which were rich and very tasty. A big portion. We brought some home and my little guy devoured them. A win for the kids. I had the Hero Breakfast - eggs, bacon, pork roll, sourdough toast, biscuits and gravy, potatoes. My son picked on some of it. Again another big portion. Funny how sometimes the little things like sourdough toast going with the breakfast just made it that much more comforting. The gravy on the plate was peppery and very salty. Overall, I thought the brunch was good. The location was clean, staff was nice and the growler prices to go were very fair and reasonable. I bought a growler each of Ore House IPA and their 30 E. Street Stout to go and shared with family. I hope my next visit will be in better times, but for those three trips, the momentary distraction Iron Hill provided was helpful. Thanks guys.

My love affair…read morestarted when I was pregnant and craving sticky buns and anything with buttercream frosting--and years later, I'm still coming back. But I've been known to leave with a danish, a slice of coffee cake, and a few cookies I swear are made with fresh-churned butter. There's something very special about the traditional offerings of Schenk's and the genuine, old-fashioned vibe. I'm good with leaving the gluten-free whole oats to the on-trend places a few blocks away--Schenk's knows exactly who they are. Sticky buns would 100% be my death-row dessert. And now that they deliver with DoorDash, I don't even have to put on shoes to make bad decisions.

Did you know that the dough for donuts has to be "proofed" and they have to be baked fresh daily, starting at 5 am? And just when I thought Schenk's couldn't surprise me again, this weekend I thought my husband had picked up a birthday cake for my son's family celebration, but he "forgot" Schenk's now delivers!! DoorDash to the rescue. We took whatever was available so it was a white cake w/ vanilla crème frosting. Thank you to the bakery angel who personalized it with my son's name and even managed a soccer theme decoration too. Sweet, thoughtful, and totally spot-on. There's clearly new leadership quietly leveling things up--modern touches, helpful updates, and new offerings--but still showing up with traditional cinnamon-swirled schnecken. You can come back here and thank me later.

For my entree, I chose the Mussaman Chicken Curry & asked them for mild to medium spice. This was a curry I'd never had, but now I can't wait to eat it again. It was one of the best Asian dishes I've EVER HAD!! I'm now obsessed! I even bought a jar of sauce in an Asian market to try at home! There was lots of very tender chicken, along with fresh vegetables in this rich coconutty, peanutty, fragrant, rich sauce. It was served along with a bowl of perfect sticky rice. I thought I'd take half home, but I couldn't stop eating my magic dish. When the chicken was gone, I made sure to add rice to the sauce to not waste a drop. It was THAT GOOD! I was too full for dessert, though they offered both American (chocolate peanut butter pie) & Thai desserts. The service was gracious & accommodating for our table of 10. The restaurant is rather typical in decor, but very clean. Highly recommend - I'm going back soon.
