Dr Chandra operated on me twice. The last surgery was for colon cancer removal. I am hoping he got all the cancer out and if so then he did a good job overall. But here's where the problem lies. He went on a month long vacation right after my last surgery and my staples stayed in for 3 weeks which were red and painful. Another doctor gave me an antibiotic that made me terribly sick with pain and diarhea and I had to stop it. He may be a good surgeon, but he has no bedside manner. He is always in a big hurry, doesn't want to answer your questions, and barks orders at you. While he was gone and I was suffering, he had no nurse in his office to help me. The only thing the receptionist said was she was sorry. You are on your own for aftercare and you should know this up front. When I had my staples removed, I was very nervous from all the pain and procedures I had endured with 13 days in the hospital and was trying to breathe slowly to calm me down. He barked at me twice to stop breathing because I was going to pass out. No I was not. If I stop breathing, I WILL pass out. read more

I deeply wish I could leave 0 stars. From the jump I knew going with this surgeon was a mistake. He's dismissive, rude and yells if you ask too many questions (which you have to do with any SURGICAL procedures) I am upset that I allowed myself to get manipulated by his staff that he was good at his "profession". My daughter had what he called a simple lipoma. The procedure would be less than an hour and recovery would be about 3 weeks. My daughters incision got infected about a week & a half later. He said it was normal and not to worry. She called him multiple times and all he advised was to see her primary physician. She did, he couldnt do anything but prescribe antibiotics which DR CHANDRA shouldve done. weeks later it continued to look terrible. My husband called..Nothing. I called & nothing. All in all; she went to urgent care TWICE and then to the wound center for treatment where she underwent a painful course of visits. I ran into a former patient of his there and they also had negative feedback for Dr. Chandra. Its unbelievable that doctors can get away with this kind of neglect. I am beyond disappointed and you would be too if you choose this practice. read more

Dr Chandra has done two hernia surgeries for me (1st abdominal and the 2nd inguinal) and without a doubt I can say he is an amazing surgeon. He has done thousands of these, and he can handle the most complex situations. In fact my 2nd surgery was complicated due to the 1st surgery complicating access... and Dr Chandra was able to use the robot and an extra incision to work thru it where most other surgeons would have opened me up. Because of his skill I was home same day and off pain meds 2 days later. If he had opened me it would have been 3-5 days in the hospital and serious pain and a much longer recovery. I also found Dr Chandra kind, caring, a great listener, and VERY clear with his instructions for what you should and should not do before and after surgery. I entered Tarzana Hospital last October. The ER staff correctly diagnosed my condition as having a complete obstruction in my lower colon. Dr. Chandra was my surgeon... he removed the obstruction, a polyp. He sent me home with a Colostomy bag and the time I needed for the inflammation in my colon to subside. Five months later to the day, I went back into the hospital and Dr. Chandra performed a second surgery to removing the Colostomy bag and to reattaching my colon. I went to the emergency room with horrible pain and I knew it was my gallbladder/gallstones acting up. I was admitted into the hospital and was told I would need surgery. I met Dr.Chandra the day prior to my surgery and he explained everything thoroughly and reassured me that it would be a comfortable easy procedure. Surgery went great and I didn't even need a pain killer. I asked many of the nurses if I could get discharged the same day, but they all said that Dr. Chandra was extremely particular and wouldn't allow me to leave until I spent the night there to make sure everything was good. He came to check on me the next day and explained everything I should do for after care. He was friendly, clear and precise. My 48 year old son was admitted to Providence Tarzana Medical Center with a life-threatening bowel obstruction in June. After a week-long hospital stay Dr. Chandra performed emergency surgery on my son, having to remove a large part of his colon. Unfortunately, my son wound up with an ileostomy bag that Dr. Chandra did his upmost to avoid attaching. I met Dr. Chandra after one of my son's surgeries and recognized what a skilled surgeon and kind-hearted person he is. He called me after each of my son's surgeries and put my mind at ease. I know it was touch and go for a while, but Dr. Chandra definitely saved my son's life. About three months after the last surgery Dr. Chandra performed a reversal surgery to remove the ileostomy bag and repaired his hernia. The surgery was successful. Dr. Chandra is the best surgeon! I had lived in pain for so long before I finally went in for a diagnosis from a Gastro Intestinal physician. I was diagnosed with severe diverticulitis and I had to have a colectomy. Although my surgery was originally supposed to be done laparoscopically there was too much existing damage once inside. Dr Chandra's work was excellent and so were my results. It has been about 5 years and I have not had any problems since. Tracy is awesome as well and is just all about business and takes her position seriously because her position is serious. I am grateful that Tracy worked with "Debbie" I believe, who works in insurance, to get my life saving surgery covered by my insurance. Listen to your body when it is alerting you that something is wrong because I ignored my symptoms until it was almost too late. After being admitted into the ER and evaluated by the doctor on staff, the preliminary diagnosis required surgical intervention. I had the good fortune of being introduced to Dr. Chandra as my surgeon. Dr. Chandra took steps to ensure I had quality care and was very thorough. My condition was not uncommon, but it was in its early stages. Dr. Chandra ran a couple of other tests first to rule out any other conditions that manifest with similar symptoms first. He held me under observation overnight and scheduled me for surgery in the morning. In the morning I see Dr. Chandra's smiling face ready to go! He was very kind and calming. He answered all the questions I had and addressed any concerns. I felt secure that I was in good hands. While I was being prepped for surgery in the OR, my husband told me that the nurses were trying to move my family to a different floor in a general waiting room. My husband was upset and Dr. Chandra asked him what was wrong. Dr. Chandra then told him not to worry and told him that he could stay right where he was as that was considered an OR "waiting room" and it was perfectly fine if they stayed. My husband was very grateful and surprised that a doctor would go out of his way to keep the family feeling calm as well instead of just letting staff corral them into another area. A couple of hours after surgery, when I was no longer in a fog, Dr. Chandra came to check in on me again. I was kept another night for recovery and then on checkout day Dr. Chandra came back for his release eval. A week later, I saw him in his office for a follow up. I was feeling better, but obviously had the pain. Dr. Chandra explained the wheres and whys of my pain and walked me through it all! He was clear on my release instructions and he was clear on what to do after this follow up appointment. I felt in control of my medical issues and recovery. I'm about 3 weeks post surgery and I'm healing nicely. It's going to take a bit, but I'll be as good as new....with the exception of 3 tiny scars. But what's 3 tiny scars in a sea of stretchmarks? Ha ha ha! I want to add that I saw 3 other physicians in addition to Dr. Chandra during my stay at the hospital and Dr. Chandra was by far my favorite. He and the ER doctor were wonderful. Dr. Chandra listened to all of my concerns.... some of which probably sounded odd to him. He didn't rush me out of his office. I didn't feel like I needed to get out of there quickly. The office staff was also incredibly kind. I can't speak as to the billing because I haven't received the bill yet. I'll update my review after that's all resolved. But with that said, there is much more to a doctor aside from their bill. Not all doctors bill the same, but they all have general standards to adhere to. This review is indicative of Dr. Chandra and his strong competency as a physician. I've had 4 surgeries due to bowel obstruction and adhesions. Dr. Chandra came highly recommended and have operated on me 3 times already in the last 20 years. He is truely a very good surgeon. In fact he's the best surgeon!! Some say he has no bedside manner but I don't see it that way. In an operating room you want someone like Dr. Chandra to make sure everything is done properly. He really does care for his patient and it does show in his actions. He's very realistic and knows your condition and will tell you what to expect. He is a very hard worker. He's in the hospital checking up on his patient pretty much everyday including Saturday and Sunday!! You can tell Dr. Chandra is very serious and dedicated to his job. He is always up to date and humbly open to new technology. What's amazing about Dr. Chandra is that he also takes the time to help train the nurses. One of the nurse (Nurse Rita) who cared for me during my hospital stay was so knowledgeable and helpful. She learned some of her techniques from Dr. Chandra! I hope I don't ever have to go through another surgery but unfortunately adhesions is very common and there is a possibility that it'll happen again. Hopefully there will be newer technology that will stop adhesions. If so I know Dr. Chandra will be one of the first to learn it to help his patient. So would I refer Dr. Chandra? Absolutely!! I was referred to Dr. Chandra for gallbladder removal way back in '04 but never submitted a review. Now that a friend needs similar surgery and I'm helping her research surgeons, I remembered Dr. Chandra. Once I decided to actually do the surgery (I delayed it a year), it was quick and easy. Met with Dr. Chandra, who explained everything, and made decision to go ahead. Dr. Chandra was called in on my surgery day to handle an emergency 'open' appendectomy on an obese person so I was delayed five hours, watching daytime TV in a hospital room, but finally the surgery was done and I was being talked to loudly by post surgical nurses to 'wake up!' Ha. Once awake I went to my own room and since surgery had been delayed 5 hours, I got to stay overnight and go home early the next a.m.. Each morning upon awakening I was very sore but moving around took care of that, plus a crumb or two for a couple of days of the Percoset or whatever it was they gave me to take for pain. That drug gives me headaches though, so after two days I took no more. Dr. Chandra has a great personality and we hit it off during pre-and-post surgical meetings. When I learned he had performed my entire surgery in just 30 minutes I was told by a nurse that he is known as the Marathon Man of "lap chole" surgery. I never had one post-surgical complaint or complication that could be attributed to Dr. Chandra. He did not try to check out the common bile duct for any errant 'sludge' as he said it was too narrow, as is often the case, and he did not want to nick it. Good call on his part as that can be a major problem for people. Oh, sure, I was sore and doing the 'abdominal surgery walk' i.e, hunched over, for a few days, but within a few more days I was driving and returned to work, full time, in just TEN days. An 'open' surgery would've had me out of commisson for probably 5 - 6 weeks. I know this is a very late review of my surgical experience with Dr. Chandra, but I'm happy to recommend him to others and would utilize his services again should they be needed. I went for a hernia operation. 4 months later I was still in pain. I called the office and asked for the first afternoon appointment which I was told I was given. I arrived 10 minutes early and there was another couple ahead of me. I waited 40 minutes. The woman who runs the office couldn't have cared less. When I finally asked why I had to wait so long, she said "ask him." I left, never heard from him. No apology, he didn't care. Might be a good doctor, but in my opinion, not a good person. read more

I went to Dr. Chandra to have a benign cyst removed from my back that was about the size of a large grape. I expressed my concerns before the surgery about the costs of the removal and he said it wouldn't amount to much. He wildly misinformed me since the procedure ended up costing around $25,000! My insurance covered most of it but I ended up having to still pay $4500 out of pocket! He then ended up leaving me with an enormous 4" scar that looked quite excessive for a cyst that size. Overall, I feel Dr. Chandra lacks compassion and has forgotten that he is operating on people--human beings who are trusting him with their well-being, and relying on him to care for their bodies and to be sensitive to the physical, emotional and financial burdens of surgery. If you are able, I would look elsewhere for a Dr. who cares more. read more
