This place is great for a date night (like seriously great and such a fun idea) but do NOT become a member. If I could give them zero stars I would. I have never been treated so poorly by people who I had been nothing but nice to--and by the same people who were super nice to me on date night were beyond rude when I came back to try out a trial membership. It was only 3 or 4 of the people who work there, but one of them is apparently one of the owners and is vile, dishonest, unprofessional, and has a major Napoleon complex. She apparently disliked me straight out of the gate because when I had a question about the membership policies (particularly one I didn't understand with regards to the differences between different types of clays and glazes since I'd never done ceramics before and none of the "lower" employees could answer definitively), she not only yelled at me for questioning her business, several of the lower employees were eavesdropping nearby and came over and started mouthing off to me as well for disrespecting her by asking for clarification. It shouldn't matter I guess but I didn't know why they were rude to me or why asking a question was forbidden. They--and the owner--also cursed quite a bit, which I found to be both unnecessary and off-putting.
I should probably mention that I have hearing loss in both ears, so I need people to speak up sometimes and I need to be able to lip-read, especially if there's a lot of other people around talking. That said, it was frustrating when I would try to speak with any of the (rude) employees because a couple of them would not only roll their eyes when I would walk up, but would turn their faces away while answering so I couldn't hear them well and couldn't even lip-read (not sure if that was on purpose but it didn't help me know what they were saying). I didn't tell them I was hearing impaired, either, but most of the employees probably figured it out and were usually very helpful, but those mean ones ruined it for me and when they were the only ones on duty, I didn't know what to do because you're absolutely not allowed to speak to employees who are not on duty. I'll just take up painting or something else to get the creative juices flowing.
On two separate occasions I saw an employee and a member who were carrying some of their own completed pottery trip and fall and break all their stuff and not only did NONE of the other employees help, they actually stood over these people going "wow that sucks" and "man you're screwed" etc while these poor people and other members (including me) helped pick up all the broken pieces of their work. How in the hell is that customer service? It wouldn't surprise me if they got written up for making a mess and accidentally disrupting people in the process, too. That was really the final straw for me--I never understood why they had an issue with me in the first place but seeing other people be treated poorly really did it for me. I will NEVER recommend this place to anybody. Nothing is worth being disrespected and treated that way.
I realize a lot of people are annoyed when they have to repeat themselves or speak up so maybe if you have perfect hearing you will have a better experience than I did. I also know that lots of artists have poor social skills or are extremely introverted, but there is a huge difference between being awkward and being a complete jerk. Many of the older employees who were working there when I was going were happy to help, answer questions, oder tips, etc, but the 4 or 5 nasty ones who were always around ruined it for me.
Feel free to try it for yourself and see what you think, but if you have hearing loss or some other disability, be prepared for a lack of patience from the employees. They have several signs up on the wall talking about how amazing and inclusive they are and what a supportive community they strive to be and how if you aren't inclusive, you're not welcome there--but apparently that only applies to religion or sexual preference and not to the hearing impaired or those who aren't experts at ceramics. read more
