We went here on a Groupon which is a sweet deal for two persons around $30 or so. The instructor was patient and clear and walks around to help as needed. They also have a screen monitor, which is fairly different allowing you to see the painting as it's being done. The location is inside of the North Dekalb Mall across from a furniture store. It's super easy to find. BYOB is a nice touch allowing you to let loose a bit. Plus: they give a birthday gift which is a nice touch. Cons: they play a nice selection of r&b and rap music, but some of it was way too vulgar. I hope they change this is people bring kids. I'd definitely come back again. read more

I went last night for a painting class. I used a Groupon but when I got there, they had a 2 for 1 special anyway. Two paintings for $34. We were about 15 minutes late because I didn't realize it was in North Dekalb Mall (near the movie theater, next to the barbershop). When we got there, our teacher Corey wasn't irritated with us for being late. I've been to Dip and Dab but this was different. And not just because of the urban art and Erykah Badu playing in the background. It was more intimate, almost like having a private lesson. We chose our seats & picked our aprons. There was a canvas, paints and brushes already set up. I was skeptical about being able to paint such a complicated piece in two hours. But Corey was patient, answering questions & being as hands on as needed. My piece turned out great and I had a souvenir to take home. People occasionally wander in out of curiosity because its in the mall. Even though walk-ins are welcome I'd check the website. Then you can pick the day you'd like to come based on the painting you like and RSVP. Don't forget the wine! read more

As a artist myself, My younger brother thought it was a good idea to gift me a Groupon "paint + sip" session for 2 on Christmas. Frank and I finally decided to go for a "Date Night"! It is located inside of the mall, so there is plenty of parking. I was a little unsure at first because I didn't know what to expect. Honestly... I fucking loved it! The atmosphere was great and the crowd was a mixture of people of different ages and art skill levels. The staff was really good about walking around and assisting those that needed the help. Everyone was friendly and just there for a good time. This was my first time doing a paint and sip, and if you've never done it before: You basically bring your own (alcoholic) drink of choice- I saw some people with snacks even! We all painted the same image, as the instructor guided us step by step. Of course, you have the option of using whatever colors and shapes you choose. It was just really cool to see how different everyone's paintings came out despite our skill level!- although... mine was the best if I do say so myself! AHEM! Creative Art Connection was a little different than what I expected because they give you a blank canvas so you really have to pay attention to what the instructor is telling you to do. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing though because it affords you the opportunity to really find your inner artist. I was a little nervous at first but as the night progressed, I was getting more confident in how the finished product would turn out. It's nestled in a store space inside the mall right by AMC movie theater. They have corks all over the place so you don't have to worry about how you're going to open your wine. Make sure you bring cups though because they don't provide any. Overall, it was fun experience. The music was good, the instructor was informative and the painting turned out pretty well. read more

I have been to a total of 4 different places but I always find my way back to Creative Art Connection! The artist explains everything you too you, and also helps if you need it. STAY AWAY...Continue reading as to why: I have been almost a dozen art/painting places in Atlanta, and they are always so fun so my friend and I were super excited about taking a class at Creative Art Connection since their paintings were more vibrant and different styles than the usual we've been doing. We bought two Groupons and followed directions to register online May 05th, 2014 at the Creative Art Connection website in advance to use on a May 13th class. Their online form accepted the Groupon code and we both received an email confirmation that we were registered for the class. Having not been to this business before, I emailed Creative Art Connection asking for them to confirm just in case because the due date for the Groupon was May 06th, 2014. I never received a reply from the company so my friend and I both went to class May 13th excited and ready to paint and had already bought our snacks and drinks! We entered around 6.15pm for the 6.30pm class, and it was an empty class/location inside North Dekalb Mall. There was a man/owner sitting behind the computer, and he greeted us by asking "Groupon or LivingSocial." Wow, ok...rude, but we said we registered on his Creative Arts Connection website using our voucher number and we were confirmed for class. He said NO the Groupon expired, when it didn't because we used it before the expiration date, yet he would not let us take the class at all and would not honor the actual Groupon value, nor did he suggest any other alternatives. He told us to call Groupon instead and ask for a refund. Wow, we tried to tell him his website accepted our Groupon, and I also contacted him and he didn't reply back in over a week. Writing this review a couple days later while contacting Groupon, I noticed also the owner of Creative Art Connection is dishonest. He redeemed our Groupons online even after he had insisted they expired, so apparently he still got our money. As we walked out around 6.30pm, it was still an empty class --- I can see why. No one should do business with Creative Art Connection. The owner offered NO customer service, NO greeting, just NOT any kind of behavior that said he wanted to do business with us/his first-time customers. We left aghast, disgusted and frankly, NEVER ever want to go to Creative Arts Connection again, and would NOT RECOMMEND it to anyone with a sane mind or checkbook. I even drove about 40 minutes to get there, and set aside our schedule to do this and lost money. Horrible business model/owner. Wow. STAY AWAY! read more

As part of my Birthday Weekend Celebration we decided to take another painting class. We've taken painting classes at Dip & Dab and always had an amazing experience. I saw a groupon for Creative Connection and decided to give it a try. Now that I've read the reviews, I really made a mistake...in the future I will always read the reviews before going ANYWHERE. PROs 1. Our family has a great appreciation for art ---the location had an artsy feel bc of the murals on the walls. 2. The art supplies and paint were already on the table. 3. That's it.... CONs- Owner/ Artist was very RUDE. HORRIBLE Customer Service all the way around!! 1. Over 30mins from my home in Vinings. I was willing to drive bc I thought it was going to be worth it. 2. The location is in the North Dekalb Mall. This was my 1st time there. A little sketchy, police outside. Not a very pleasant location and I had a hard time finding the location so I called the phone number. No one answered. I left a message. No one called me back at all. 3. I eventually found the place and when my son and I went in it was OVER CROWDED. They arrange the seating so close together that I'm surprised it is not a fire hazard. There wasn't room to put our belongings. 4. They asked me for my groupon but my phone said "No Service"---I have AT&T. I even stepped outside. So I showed him my phone and asked the Owner/Artist do they keep track of the registrations in any other way bc I had to register for the class on the website and enter the groupon number. He said no and said he's never had this problem before. He was VERY annoyed. So he told me try again at the end of class. Which I did---I showed him my receipt from my groupon purchase. 5. The Owner/ Artist is VERY RUDE. So it didn't end there. The artist had "giveaways". He asked who had a birthday. He gave 1 piece of art to 1 woman and another woman and I raised our hands. He said we have a second one...referring to the other one....and ignored me. He was obviously still upset about the groupon incident. So my 10 year old raised his hand and said it's my mom's birthday too. The owner said okay. At the end of class he gave the 2nd woman her giveaway and gave me nothing. 5. The assistant was useless. I had to ask for paint several times bc it was thin/watery. It took forever to get his attention. Instead of going around to make sure that everyone was okay, he stood with one group and had personal conversations with them almost the entire time. All in all. I was totally fine with walking away from this experience and just blowing it off....why ruin a perfectly good birthday celebration?!!! But my 10 year old was sooo upset in the car...."mommy that guy was mean! Why would he give the other 2 women a piece of art for their birthday and not give it to you? Was he still mad because our phone wasn't working? I like Dip & Dab better." I explained to my son that we are entitled to nothing. We paid for the service and we were able to take the class so he didn't have to give me anything extra. Life is like that sometimes. It's terrible that my son had to see an adult act like that. I've visited this studio on several occasions and it each visit gets better. The consistency of the fabulous atmosphere, moving music, and not mention outstanding selection of creative art is the reason why I'll continue to paint. Honestly, I'm left handed and writing legibaly has always been a problem but the teacher's simplistic approach to guiding us through each painting makes it possible for even a 6yr old to paint. Ok so, the seating isn't set up to accommodate a large amount of painters at one time. The seats are practically on top of each other. Now to move from there, the class is from 7p-9p and hats only because after very step, he spends 15-20 mins redoing EVERYBODY'S pic. I mean what's the point of having assistants walk around, if they're not going to assist!! HELLO. We were waiting for the next step for so long, I got up and went to Wendy's. Me and my friends even started getting restless and was ready to go. We left before end of class and not to mention is was Hhoott!! I didn't make too big a deal because I only spent $16 on groupon so I guess I got what I paid for . Next time, I'll pay $50 and do it the right way. I went to this establishment by myself on a Saturday night. It's inside of a mall which was surprising but cool. The crowd there was mostly couples so I felt a little out of place. The instructors were helpful with the painting. They did go a little fast but they had monitors to check your status on your work. It did get crowded as time passed as late-comers arrived. So my experience starts with a simple girlfriends outting. We ordered the Groupon offline, and read through the requirements. Since it was looking to be a group of us and we were unsure if we needed a private party or what not, we called the business number. No answer, its a GOOGLE voice number-first bad sign. Continued to call the number and leave a number of messages, still no response. So we met up at the mall around 1:15 Saturday. The assistant was not very helpful, but stated we could speak to the "owner" Corey who was currently at the dollar tree getting supplies. Well, when this guy walks up, we had to wait to approach him as his eyes were glued on another woman and he almost ran into one of our group members. She asked politely if we could sit in and honor our Groupon for the two hour session. Immediately with an attitude, he informs us groupons are only for the 7pm classes on Saturday, no other time. We pointed out it was not stated that way on the Groupon. He gets an attitude and tells us take it up with Groupon. We ask why can't we paint at one of the tables since we are already here. He informs us that a church group has booked 1pm l, and they "paid more than our Groupon" so they received top priority. Mind you, its now 1:45, its about 6 of these church members there leaving ample space for other customers. Also, point to note is with other BYOB painting classes, you can show up WHENEVER and paint. There's no specific time slot to do so. Corey continued to be rude and turn his nose up at our Groupon's and tell us to take it up with them. He stated the best he could do was "maybe" try to seat us if we returned tonight but the class was full and we would more than likely have to come back another time. We also told him we had been calling all week, and he said the phone was good and he never received a call. I called the 615 number right then and still received no answer. Basically we are all getting a refund , and spending the extra money to do sips and strokes. This was a complete bummer, and run by an idiot who does not like the very sales programs he signed up for. However, I doubt he would have any customers if he didn't sign up because the place is ALWAYS empty when I've been at the mall to go to bath and body. Stay away! Stay away. Stay AWAY! Very bad business I actually had to go to the store to get in touch with someone and I felt like I shouldn't have had to do that being that a number is provided for the business. This is a blast! The teacher is a great artist, and handsome! The art he creates are even better in person than on the website. They have helpers/assistants walking around to support you the entire time. All you have to do is raise your hand. The assistants are positive, fun and very helpful. There are TV monitors to ensure you can see from almost every angle. The owner/teacher is patient and flexible. I had so much fun with my meetup group. I even think I would have a great time alone. I highly recommend this experience. I will definitely go again. I advise that you look at the finished product, next to the blank canvas, before the instruction starts. Very fun class. The instructor tries to break down each step using simple language and shapes. Trust me you'll get discouraged but by the end of the class your art work will actually start to come together. Your instructor may go a little fast at times so don't be afraid to ask for individual help. This doesn't even deserve a 1 star. I typically do not write reviews but I would not want anybody to waste their money even if they bought a Groupon on this place when there are tons of other BYOB places to go to. Owner/artist has no patience, you can barely hear him speak over the load music. They are more interested in taking your photo then helping you out with your painting. It was extremely hot in there so I asked if the air conditioner was broken. He ignored me giving me a dirty look.. His little helper had booty shorts on that were not appropriate whatsoever. We found out about this place through Groupon and decided to go at the last minute. Corey, the owner, was very accommodating and wonderful to work with. We were a party of 11 celebrating a birthday. We brought some snacks and wine to enjoy while we were painting. Corey was patient with all of us non-skilled painters and we all had a great time. It was a perfect way to spend the evening. Just returned from my second time at Creative Art Connection! It was as great as the first. I really like how calm the atmosphere and the teacher/instructor is. The music is super (please can I have the playlist?) and always appropriate. This time there was a young lady about twelve or so and no one had to run and skip a song because of the lyrics, We all can appreciate that whether we have children or not. Corey is extremely cordial and comes around to assist each painter individually. He is your typical artist type quiet, passionate about his work, smart, introverted and genius, but he never behaves as though the people that take their time and money to come to a class are not important. Having read some of the reviews of experiences some have had I can only say that is not how my two classes were. Perhaps like any good artist or person he has read the reviews and changed accordingly. And after all the fitting behavior after hearing critique is to a hear what needs to changed and change it. I found that this time my picture was much better than before. The simple to follow instructions ( he always goes step by step to help those of us with two left hands [smile] ) will help anyone paint a picture that will not end up in the back of the closet.
