Let's see where this is going

Creative Art Connection was a little different than what I expected because they give you a blank canvas so you really have to pay attention to what the instructor is telling you to do. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing though because it affords you the opportunity to really find your inner artist. I was a little nervous at first but as the night progressed, I was getting more confident in how the finished product would turn out. It's nestled in a store space inside the mall right by AMC movie theater. They have corks all over the place so you don't have to worry about how you're going to open your wine. Make sure you bring cups though because they don't provide any. Overall, it was fun experience. The music was good, the instructor was informative and the painting turned out pretty well.

Hands down my favorite sip and paint in Atlanta! I absolutely love the atmosphere and the artist is amazing!

I would like to say that painting in this environment would have to be one of my favorite things to do. I have been to a total of 4 different places but I always find my way back to Creative Art Connection! The artist explains everything you too you, and also helps if you need it. I have all of my paintings on my wall at home ( I swear I'm an artist in my mind). The atmosphere is nice and I always love the music selection ! I would recommend this spot for a great date night, a girls night , or just something you want to do for yourself! I can't wait to go back.

OMG OMG! What a great experience. I'm here celebrating my birthday with my girls and we are having a blast. It's not the punch it's the fun activity. Come out and paint you won't regret it.

I've visited this studio on several occasions and it each visit gets better. The consistency of the fabulous atmosphere, moving music, and not mention outstanding selection of creative art is the reason why I'll continue to paint. Honestly, I'm left handed and writing legibaly has always been a problem but the teacher's simplistic approach to guiding us through each painting makes it possible for even a 6yr old to paint. Creative Art Connection is truly unique.

Great time creating our Jazz pieces!

The parking was great and the tour of the studio was really cool to see and learn about the process. Then we got a ton of hands on time with the pottery, about an hour and a half, and then we got to pick from a wide selection of glazes which the artists will apply and then in about 6 weeks we will be able to pick up the pottery. I was blown away by the price of the class. I received it as a gift, but when I learned that it was only $65 per person for a 2 hour class and 2 pieces of pottery I was shocked. I'd highly recommend to anyone and everyone!

We turned right off the bumpy road that led us there and noticed their sizable parking lot. We found a spot quickly, snapped a couple of pictures and entered. There was really no direction or guidance when we got inside so we were hovering around for a few minutes. Then I noticed a check in desk at the far end. There was a couple ahead of us so we waited for a few seconds and then approached the counter. We advised that we were scheduled for the 5 PM class. The staff checked us in, pointed us in the right direction, and also informed us that we could roam around and check out their gallery before our class started, since we were a little early. I would say initially there were a bunch of people milling around. I was not sure if they were staff members or other patrons, but we did not initially get a very welcoming feel. Not a lot of eye contact or warm smiles. We roamed around checking the gallery until our class started. We approached the training area as it got close to our scheduled start time. Our instructor. Zoe greeted us warmly and told us she would get things started soon. Before class, she conducted an official tour that led us around the whole property. She clearly explained how the whole process would flow. Then she did a full demo before we even started. She led us through the process, and we were able to create three different creations, but she let us know that we were only able to keep two. Zoe was a star; very informative, patient and knowledgeable about the whole process. She expertly stepped in and helped us whenever we had questions. We washed up, picked out final colors for our creations and checked out. She advised that it would take 6 to 8 weeks for the whole creation to be baked and ready for pick up. For some reason, I thought we would be able to take our creations with us that day. Overall, we really enjoyed our first time at Mudfire.

I took the 4 hour workshop which was mostly metal working. It was an amazing experience. Wendy is an awesome teacher and explained each step of the process thoroughly. She made herself available to the students and did a lot of one-on-one work. Although we all made the same project (a ring), Wendy made sure there were many opportunities to customize it. You determine the band size of your ring, decide to have a patterned or smooth band, whether or not to have a stone set in the ring, and the color and shape of the stone. I left Amalgam with a beautiful handmade and custom ring! The 10am class went until 2pm with many opportunities for snacks and bathroom breaks in between. The way the class works is Wendy explains each step as you go along and floats around the room to help people complete that step. For the complicated steps (i.e. Soldering), Wendy works with students one by one to ensure safety and correctness. When you're waiting for your turn or letting your ring sit in the "pickling solution" as Wendy calls it, you can relax and do whatever. I snacked (bring food or buy it at the cafe right outside), socialized, and studied for an upcoming exam I had; so, bring things to do or not - just a heads up. Remember to wear close toed shoes, and be ready for an easy, relaxing Saturday at Amalgam if you take the 4 hour workshop, which I highly recommend. It's a fabulous activity for mom/dad and daughter/son dates, a girl/guy's day, or plain ol' self care. Location and parking: The studio is situated in a grouping of buildings that kind of look like bungalows. When pulling into the lot, you won't immediately see Amalgam. You will see a small cafe and a storefront with a big letter "D" on it. Amalgam is between those about 100 ft farther back. There's a small parking lot so if you're going to a class, I would highly recommend showing up early to nab a spot.

The teacher is Wendy, who has an incredibly impressive resume in the metal arts. She is very patient and helpful as you go through the process (and believe me, it's a process, involving pliers, soldering, hammers and a dremel) to create a pretty ring. The class is a little long because it's a process. You can bring snacks and non-alcoholic drinks. Or you can walk to the aforementioned bakery if there's a lull in action (ask Wendy first). But it creates a really cool result! Mine is pictured here.

I originally stopped by in search of pottery classes--and was delighted to find not only that they offer them, but also that a new session begins on October 13th. In addition, there's a Fall Break Art Camp for grades 2-5, where children will experiment with a range of media including watercolor, acrylics, and collage. As I walked through the space, I was able to watch artists at work and enjoy the current gallery exhibits on display. The atmosphere was inspiring and welcoming. Adult fall classes--running October 6th through December 13th--are also available, covering both visual and ceramic arts. Each class is taught by individual instructors, making it approachable for students of all levels. Best of all, online registration makes it simple to sign up. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that such a wonderful resource has been right in my neighborhood all along. It was a great experience, and I've already registered for pottery classes--something I'm really excited about!
