I love this coffee shop. It's my favorite place to get drinks and snacks. I love their lattes, hot chocolate, coffee, fig bars, brownies and samosas. They have indoor seating in different rooms, even though it sometimes feels a little cramped. They also have a few outdoor seats. I usually grab my drink and snacks and walk in the area. But I love the interior and aesthetics of this shop as well. It's very inviting. I can't wait to go back soon. read more

We arrive in Tarrytown and we wanted something to drink for our walk around the town and we saw Muddy water coffee as our first choice, sadly it wasn't the best one We wanted some Matcha, and they had one called "Matcha Madness" so we decided to give it a shot and we chose it to be a "cold beverage" because temperature was going up and we needed something refreshing! After making a long line with a limited space we were able to order and then make another mini line to pay. The matcha beverage was $8.15 which we believe was kind of expensive but only made our expectations for an amazing product, HIGHER! While we were waiting for out drink we observed the coffee shop from the inside, it had a great ambiance, kind of messy and tight but in a good sense, different tables, different chairs, in their own style they we're definitely making it work! Once we got our ordered we were VERY DISAPPOINTED First of all the beverage wasn't even "cold" was warm with some ices that were melting and making the matcha more watery Then we tried it and it tasted really bad, not even like Matcha, tasted like water with milk and the color was so brown that we couldn't even bear to drink it. We threw the "Matcha Madnness" and our $8 in the nearest trash can I want to believe that their other products are probably better, but I would definitely not recommend this one read more

Not sure what happened here... but on my recent visit Monday morning (7/1st), they really dropped the ball. My wife and I came and the place was lively, with decent number of patrons. My wife's latte and toasted croissant came pretty quickly, but my cold brew and toasted samosa literally took like 15 minutes... I was just waiting around while other people kept getting their food... Did the young girl forget my order? My samosa was sitting in the oven for quite a while... and when she finally got to it, my samosa was burnt on the edges and way, way over done. I did not want to make a big issue so just cut out the burnt ends and just tried to enjoy - beans and mushroom filling wasn't bad - just that it was all over-toasted and thus a bit hard. Cold brew was also just so-so - tasted rather watered down. I noticed that both workers were just employees and they were both slow at service (or hammered - one was so occupied making coffee and didn't even acknowledge my presence waiting for my samosas) and just did not have good training overall, which brought my 2nd experience here to 2 stars. Hopefully it was the Monday one-off leading up to July 4th long weekend. read more

It probably depends when you hit up Muddy Water Coffee and how your experience is going to go. I've been there a handful of times and have had split experiences from my coffee being good to it just missing the mark. The last time I was there in just missed the mark. OK, so Tarrytown is crazy during the month of October. I get it. My family and I were walking around the town when I decided to grab a coffee at Muddy Water. Obviously the line inside was absolutely insane. I decided to wait. After waiting quite some time I finally got to order. I ordered their affogato. It was a hot day and I have been in such an affogato stage that I was excited to have it. After waiting awhile and hearing many other affogatos go by I finally received mine. Now, I don't know if they ran out of ice cream? Or I just got the bottom of that container? But the amount of ice cream I was given was SO disappointing. It wasn't even an ice cream scoop amount, it was like MAYBE a tablespoon amount that obviously melted immediately. I wanted to say something but it was just SO crowded and chaotic I decided to drink it quickly and head out. Now, like I said, I should have probably just ordered an iced coffee or something. Keep it simple. But I wanted to try something different from here. Next time I'll stick with my tired and true drinks. read more

I love this business: its offerings, atmosphere, owners and the people who work there. Funny thing is, I am less a coffee person than I am a cafe person. What I like in particular about Muddy Water is their delicious turmeric foamed beverage, kind of a chai-like drink. Of all the coffee places in town (and I love Bakehouse as well as Coffee Labs), Muddy Water has perhaps the coziest vibe for hanging out. You can see people hunkered down with books and laptops. There is even a garden in back. And while they do not specifically welcome dogs, my Samoyed, Obi, is welcome to come in with me as long as he behaves while I place my order. Once I get my drink or food, we take it outside either in front, on the street, or in the back garden. Muddy Water is one of my favorite businesses in Tarrytown. Was here on the "big" Halloween event weekend and while the lines are long everywhere, they did a tremendous job of delivering a great product quickly. I had an 8oz cappuccino and it was prepared perfectly. The coffee was really nice and the almond croissant, while more sweet bread in texture than flaky croissant, had great flavor. If your coffee shop isn't playing Elliott Smith, something must be wrong... Everything is right about Muddy Water; good music, random vintage furniture, and most of all; good coffee. Good tasting and educated; my Macchiato was a real Macchiato served in an espresso cup - not a large cup of milk with a drop of coffee in it like you get at Starbs. Service was solid, very nice staff here, and the space is pretty clean. Tarrytown's best business. read more

Muddy Water Coffee has my highest recommendation for coffee/cafe spot in Tarrytown. As a new student in the area, finding a cafe to study in is crucial. Muddy Water was the first cafe spot I visited and I've never left. I've been here a bunch of times at this point and has been so normal to me, which is why I don't have a great pic of it (it's buried in my camera roll). First, the coffee is great. I've only ever ordered the iced americanos and they are amazing. Bitter, smooth, strong. Perfect drink to keep me refreshed and energized as I struggle through schoolwork. I think the large is around ~$4.50-4.80, which is definitely worth it. I've ordered and tried some of the pastries here and they're either great or alright. They're a bit out of my price range and are sometimes mediocre, so I tend not to buy them. The ambiance of Muddy Water Coffee is also very well put together. Lots of wood and a bit old fashioned. The chairs aren't the comfiest, but they'll do. The tables aren't perfect either, but I think captures the place well. The wifi is fast and reliable. The outdoor seating in the front and the back is nice and quaint. The bathrooms are alright. Lastly, the service is great. The baristas are nice and cordial, and the food/coffee is prepared at a decent time. My only gripe about Muddy Water Coffee is that it's getting too famous! It can get busy and seats aren't always guaranteed. May want to get here early if you're trying to study to ensure a nice spot. read more

On a recent weekend family stay in Tarrytown - we caffeinated ourselves here both mornings. We grew up visiting Tarrytown given my Mom's entire side of the family is from here, so I almost feel like a semi-native. Tarrytown has grown so much since the 70's and this place is a cute coffee shop right on Main and next to the fire house. The place was super crowded both late mornings. Both days when we were there, three people working which did not seem like enough? But that was fine for us, since we were in no rush. Given the crowd in there, it is clear folks really like this place. We ordered specialty coffee and food items both days. On Saturday they had a LOT of options, Sunday they were out of most pastries so I am thinking they get from a local baker or something, There were TONS of tourists there that weekend given the time of year. The breakfast items were super fresh and out of this world: we ate scones, croissants and this KILLER Nutella Banana bread. Coffee drinks were delicious as well, since we are all specialty drink peeps. Came to Muddy Water this morning for coffee and a pastry. The croissant I got (got two) was stale that it tasted day old from a grocery store. My daughter even commented how badly it tasted. I thought it may pass by her, but it didn't. I wasn't able to try the coffee because the place was so backed up that there were sixteen orders in front of me waiting to be filled. I didn't feel like waiting a half hour for coffee so we settled for the croissants. Based on their quality, I'm curious to that of the coffee, but not curious enough to return. read more

I wish I could leave a higher review because this place is cute and the pastries are good... but the staff working are so outrageously rude, condescending and obnoxious. Let me start by saying I don't like giving bad reviews, especially for independent establishments. I know it's hard to run a business and good reviews help gain more business. So if this was a situation of "she didn't smile at me when I ordered" I would have let it go and just not returned, no harm no foul. But this was three experiences over the course of less than an hour that left me with such a bad taste in my mouth I have to say something. When we placed our order the girl working kept rushing us, even though there was no line. And when I asked for a napkin and straw she rolled her eyes and pointed to where they are. Ok, it's my first time here and we just spent a good amount of money getting a few things and leaving a nice tip so maybe have some compassion? Then they messed up my order and were really arrogant about it. I was like whatever, I've worked in customer service and some days are tough - I get it. But the icing on the cake was when my boyfriend took our dirty dishes back to the counter (which was really nice - we don't work here, there are no signs requesting to bus your own table.) He put the dishes down and the boy working laughed in his face! Like... LAUGHED! Looked him in the eye and LAUGHED like he was an idiot and did the stupidest thing ever and pointed to where the dishes go which was literally 18 inches away. He could have said "hey thanks for your help, do you mind putting the dishes there?" but no... he LAUGHED! To the owner - we were there Saturday August 24th, 2024 at 3pm. Maybe look at your staff schedule and let the people who were working know they cost your establishment future business and gained a bad review - which I'm sorry to leave. I hope you can get your establishment in order and please let me know when you do as I believe in second chances and I'd love to come back for a do-over. read more

I absolutely loooove the ambiance of this place. Today was my first visit and I think I fell in love with this Cafe. It has almost a rustic feel to it with interesting art on the walls. I ordered a dirty chai and it came out tasty and beautiful! Granted, it was a bit pricey, $5 for their smallest size, but I'm all about supporting local businesses. And I would def buy it again. Since I've only been here once, I can't say too much about it. But I loved my experience here. It was simple. And I have nothing to complain about. An absolute treat of a cafe, with a varied and well thought out menu of different coffees, baked goods, and sandwiches. Whatever your preference, you're sure to find it here. They're very mindful of distancing and making sure both customers and employees feel safe with a plastic screen set up between the cashiers and the customers. We had the Thai chicken curry soup, which struck a perfect balance of spice and was warming and filling to boot! The samosas had an excellent crunch and a perfectly cooked potato blend. Both the spicy and non spicy version don't disappoint! The goat cheese and herb quiche was not too rich, and the pastry was a delightfully crumbly vessel for a mild but truly satisfying dish. Best of all, the service was kind and upbeat, and the owners Loretta and Linton were charming, funny, and kind.
