I'm so tired of mediocre coffee shops in Westchester. This one sadly, is just one more. Nothing about the drinks is special, the beans are just from Coffee Labs in Tarrytown, and there's no passion or actual barista skill at play. There's just "we have this machine, let's make lattes". The inside of the shop is cold and barren- it's such a great location as well but nothing about it makes you want to spend time there. I hate to be critical, but when I spend money somewhere that is supposed to be a place that specializes in something, and yet what I get looks and tastes no different than what a nespresso pod at home can make, it's just disappointing. I have been passing this place for the last few years, waiting for them to open. I'm glad they finally did! I've been a few times, and I was pleasantly surprised on my visit. They had samples of drinks they made on the counter. They have an array of baked goods from local bakers. They also have a vast coffee menu that is posted on their wall. They have a few tables inside, where you can sit and relax while you have a drink and snack. The drinks are amazing and the baked goods are freshly stocked weekly. I just got into town from LA on a red-eye through Chicago, so needless to say, I needed to caffeinate to function for the rest of the day. Coffee Social came up as near the hotel, and I liked the idea of a place that encouraged you to come in and work. It's an adorable spot, and I think it has a lot of potential, but it needs work to get there, particularly on the service end. LA has one of the strongest coffee cultures around, so admittedly I'm a bit spoiled, but it seems like more training needs to happen. A few training suggestions for management: 1. Greet your customers like you're happy to see them. In this case, the barista wasn't unfriendly, but I can't say there was much enthusiasm or passion for what they were doing. (Update: Watched another customer come in and come right up to the register--not sure the barista even said hello to her.) 2. Wash your hands. If you're eating food as a barista--or wiping tables or whatever--before you take care of anybody, wash your hands. In this case, the barista was eating their pizza and immediately moved to the register and then to making drinks. Washing your hands is Food Service 101, and I have to say this really put me off. 3. Be proactive rather than reactive. When people leave and their table is dirty (technically, any table that's had a person at it should get a wipe), wipe it down instead of surfing/texting/whatever on your phone. Or when I order food (see #5), maybe anticipate and tell me where the napkins are--they're only obvious from the front. Or if you see someone with a laptop computer, assume they will probably need the Wi-Fi and let them know where the code is. 4. If I ask about a drink, maybe tell me something about it. For example, if I ask about a mocha, five-star service might tell me how many shots are in each size. (There's really only a single shot in a 12 oz mocha?!) 5. Maybe do some tastings of the food you carry so that the baristas know a little about it. My barista had never had the egg salad wrap--which was honest--but they seemed indifferent to my ordering food in general. Another review mentioned that the food items are locally made, which is something to be proud of and amplified to customers. In short, they answered direct questions, but that was about it--reactive, not proactive. Ultimately, I was here to work for a while, so I ordered a 16 oz mocha which ostensibly had 2 shots of espresso (the barista said they could add one) and an egg salad wrap from the case. Unfortunately, serving the mocha in a to-go cup with a sealed lid removes any chance of cool latte art (not sure that this barista would have been up for the challenge anyway). Taste was OK--better than Starbucks--but it felt as if it lacked the coffee notes I get in my mochas back home. The wrap, which came from Ladle of Love, was fine, if a bit heavier than I expected. In short, it's a comfortable and pretty environment with good Wi-Fi, reasonable prices and some outlet access, which makes it good for working. But at least based on my experience, the overall approach to service--at least on the day I was here--is holding it back. read more

I am a big fan of Ice Cream Social and when I heard they were opening a sister coffee shop, I was very excited to try! Located on the Post Road, it's a nice spot to get your caffeine and sweet treat fix. Every day they have local bakeries/pastry chefs bring their donuts, muffins, cookies, etc. Coffee Labs beans are also sold! I decided to order my usual (iced vanilla latte) and it was just the right amount of sweet. I also picked up a cookie from Baked after Midnight. White Plains has historically lacked good coffee shops - besides Starbucks and Hastings Tea & Coffee, there were no other ones in the downtown area. A couple years ago The Pamplemousse Project opened up on Mamaroneck Ave which has proven to be a great addition to the area, and now we have Coffee Social. I had been eyeing this place for a while and recently noticed they had opened - so I thought it would be a good idea today to head over and check them out. CS is located on East Post Road, just off Mamaroneck Ave - it's actually owned by the same people as Ice Cream Social located further down the strip - I recognized the similarities in name and aesthetics. Walking in, I was getting typical coffee house vibes - a few tables throughout the dining area and a counter in the corner where production takes place. The aesthetics were bright and modern with clean lines. The menu contains typical coffeehouse beverages, and they have a few baked goods from local businesses for sale - namely Mad Donuts and Victoria Bakehouse (I think there may be a few other partners as well). I was only looking for a beverage - an iced chai latte was speaking to me so I went with that. The drink was good - lots of chai flavor and very refreshing on a hot day. Service was fast and friendly, and overall I think Coffee Social is off to a great start. I wish them the best and am looking forward to future visits. read more

There was a coffee social after dark event in this location last night. Along was a DJ playing tunes. I enjoyed it simply for the fact that I've never entered the coffee shop. The event allowed me to gain a sense of a community outing. Possibly, I'll buy particular coffee grinds or a cup of coffee when I pass this place. read more

Wasnt for me but seems to be a popular place .Service! I ordered the drink that was the highlighted special and the main ingredient was missing the cold foam! Any ways it was corrected but no apology just continuing with the flow of work, my drink was tasteless a cold cup of oatmilk. read more

The lattes are horrible. The white chocolate latte was the worse, you couldn't even mix it. I threw it out immediately after I got it.
