The Fried Green tomatoes were good but I found a red one that slipped in. They were topped with chilled shrimp doused with a remoulade sauce. The gumbo was more watery than I like and had much more celery, onions, and bell peppers than seafood. The crawfish were the tiniest I have ever seen and very sparingly added. One friend ordered the meatloaf ( in a Cajun seafood restaurant)? It actually was pretty good. Served with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans. Everything about the menu layout, decoration, and dishes makes one feel like this is an upscale venue. Once you sit down, talk with the wait staff, and try the food, however, it feels more like a local eatery trying to figure out it's direction. There weren't many options for wine drinkers and the main bartender encouraged me to take the more economical route. ("I mean, you can get two glasses for the price of one if you get the canned wine.") I'm not pretentious about wine, but I've yet to have anything great that's come out of a can and was rather apprehensive. After a bit of deliberation, I decided to go with his recommendation, the Porch Pounders Red Blend, and was pleasantly surprised! I ordered the seafood boil with king crab + shrimp, hot. Instead of four corn cobs, I asked to substitute two with andouille sausage. The bartender had to check with management, but it was approved. When my boil arrived, it was accompanied by the usual server ware (see picture). After a few bites, I didn't find it anywhere near hot, so the 'tender brought me a small cup of the spicy seasoning (Slap Yo Momma products). When we were talking about my seafood boil choices, I must have missed the component where king crab was $25 for HALF a lbs...so my bill was significantly higher than I thought. I didn't raise a stink about it because it was a business meal, but I'd be cautious when adding ingredients. I also asked the bartender if the shrimp were head-on, to which he said they were, but arrived without heads. Overall I was happy with my wine and meal. I agree with other Yelpers that Mudbugs is a bit more pricey than other venues in the area (even without my +$25 snafu). I understand why Mudbugs is in the cajun/creole culinary genre, but I'd label it more aspiring. All that being said, I will most likely revisit Mudbugs when I'm back in the area. I would not recommend the shrimp and grits. I had them tonight and they were so so, so. I taste it no cheese in the grits as advertised. The shrimp were just shrimp not bbq, just shrimp with a little hot flavor. I'm glad they got away fm the grit cake but this shrimp and grits are pretty bad for $18. Second time we've tried this place and both experiences the same: poor (old seafood/over-salty) food, poor service, terrible seats with difficulty maneuvering chairs and your own legs to under the table. The holes in center of table - great idea. Amazing that we were served crab without anything but a fork...they said they were "out of sizzors!" (Ten other people there...no crab cracker/sizzors). We went here with my family for my graduation weekend and it was AMAZING. Taylor our waitress was awesome. The wings were awesome we tried all the flavors the garlic pepper wings were everyone's favorite. We had the street corn,the shrimp boil and the crab boil and the spices were wonderful not to spicy but full of a lot of flavor. I got the tenderloin and garlic Parmesan orzo with a back potatoes and it was to die for. The steak was overcooked they took it back and got me a new one. Turns out they have happy hour from 5:00-7:00 every day. We started with a dozen oysters 1/2 raw and 1/2 grilled. They were amazing with the grilled ones the clear winner at $2 a piece it was a win. We also had a mixed seafood boil that was also on the happy hour menu. It had crab, mussels, and shrimp with corn in the cob and potatoes. It was perfectly cooked. The shrimp were huge and so succulent. At $15 it was a steal! Top it off with a watermelon margarita and one of the best michiladas I've ever had. We were in Heaven. I also tried their Buffalo wings that were $1 a piece. They were delicious and perfectly cooked as well. I hate when the skin on the wings is not cooked all the way. These were perfect. I have been to mudbugs twice now and will definitely be returning! Their house watermelon martini is a very refreshing drink to start with. The fired gator and oysters on the half shell are good starters, but the chicken & sausage gumbo is by far my favorite starter. For the entree I tried the cajun chicken pasta, which has a nice flavor to it. The blackened chicken over linguine alfredo was great, however I didn't care for the dirty rice (needs more flavor in my opinion). All in all, the service and food has been great both times and I look forward to trying some of their other menu items on my third visit. read more

Food was high priced for poor quality. I ate shrimp and grits, which were too salty to eat. I only ate the salty shrimp. My wife ate shrimp pesta linquine. It was my original order (we switched plates) because I couldn't handle the taste of the pesta. Since she likes pesta sauce she took my plate. She said the pesta was good but again, the blackened shrimp was too salty. I told her when we left that you can't hardly mess up shrimp, but they came real close. Whatever spices they use for their crawfish...you could put on anything and it would elevate the dish. I've been twice while visiting from San Antonio and both times we sat at the bar.
