Oh my goodness! We have been in Mud Bay multiple times, each time has been a great experience. Today, was life changing. We walked in to get our pups weighed and to figure out a rain jacket for our boy Flip Flop. SeKai, a wonderful sales associate came over to help out, especially with the re-hanging of the tried on jackets. Realizing that Flip Flop was acting anxious and asked us if we have ever tried a thunder vest. Ummm nope, thinking do they really work?? SeKai was pretty much no pressure, try it, if you like it get it if you don't no worries. So she helped put it on, and with in seconds my anxious pup is calm. Of course we got it! It's not the vest I am reviewing here of course, what I want to say is what a wonderful environment Mud Bay is, and how employees like SeKai make it that way. Our appreciation soars with the kindness, knowledge, and the love of animals we felt today. I've always taken my fur baby Porsha to this mud bay and we have always had the best time finding treats and food and toys for her. Last month she was diagnosed with an aggressive sarcoma (tumor) in her mouth and I went straight to this location for soft food for her and they were helpful and kind and took the time to pet Porsha and listen to her needs and help find solutions. We went back again when I could t get her to take her meds and got some pill pockets and bacon flavored fruit roll ups to hide her pills in. Again, they were so kind and helpful. We are helping our baby cross the rainbow bridge this weekend and we made one last stop to Mud Bay for her last couple of days food and treats and my daughter brought her in and the staff went above and beyond as always. She came home crying, so grateful for their kindness and the love they showed Porsha. I will always recommend this location and this company. This place is the best. I always get good advice and they're never in a rush. My dog had some serious food allergies and, even after testing, we couldn't figure out what was triggering his skin problems. I went through a couple of different suggestions (getting rid of all chicken and chicken byproduct) and that did the trick. This was the only place I was able to find tough toys for my pitty mix. I adopted him from Seattle humane and they have a mini mud bay store. It was great and I'm so happy I was able to find another somewhat close lol. Coming from Sequim is a bit of a drive but well worth it. He loves the cheddar biscuits and the toys I got lasted about a year and a half before he tore into them. Money well spent. Staff is always friendly and very helpful. I love Mud Bay! I've been searching for a more holistic/natural pet supply store and I'm so glad to have stumbled across this little gem. I'm a huge fan of their wide selection of single ingredient dog treats like bison liver snaps, dried sprat, bison bone broth, and frozen turkey and chicken necks. All of their products are high quality and reasonably affordable. I only wish they had a rewards program. read more

I use to drive to Mud Bay in University Place and when they built this one I was VERY pleased as well as one less toll to pay. The staff have always been very kind, knowledgeable and well just outstanding. Since my dog is a picky eater this place carries the brands im looking for. I once bought a large bag of their dog food and poured it into a sealed container only to find out that I got the wrong type. I called in and they let me being it back and get the right type. They always have plenty of samples are willing and freely will give you anything you want. My dog and I love this place! read more

As a resident of Gig Harbor for nearly 15 years, I have frequented this Mud Bay location for several years. I enjoy buying my goods here in GH rather than online, regardless of whether cost is a little more--I love to support local businesses and branches here in town. Mud Bay has lots of high-quality products to choose from in a very welcome setting. However some of the staff at GH Mud Bay need a little training in customer service. They are short in responses and lukewarm in delivery. They are selective of whom they give sample treats for pets; the last 4 times I've been in the store (July to Sept 2022), I haven't been offered sample treats for my dogs. I have overheard others in line before me or at the standing at the register next to me getting offered treats, but they don't seem to ask me! Perhaps if you're purchasing $20+ of dog snacks and food they don't need to offer freebies? It's a shame because with those samples I have found snacks that my dogs love--so I buy these snacks at MB! Overall, MB is still a great place with great products--I just don't feel appreciated as a longtime customer. read more

With a new puppy on the way, we've been enjoying stopping at pet stores to see what is available. Mud Bay is near our house, so we thought we'd stop in to see what it offered. I had understood Mud Bay to be a pricey store with an eclectic selection, so I was wary that there would be anything for us. I was pleasantly surprised to find a huge selection of things we haven't seen elsewhere. We already have all the basic (food, leash, collar, beds, kennel, etc.) so we are looking more for fun treats. They had a large selection of rawhide and natural bone treats, in all sizes, shapes, and flavors. Everything for really big to really small dogs. They also had a nice selection of locally-made scoop-your-own treats. Again, a plethora of shapes, sizes, and flavors appealed to us. The price was reasonable ($3 a pound) and we were able to mix a variety into one bag. Mud Bay isn't the cheapest, but neither was it as "overpriced" as some have called it. They prices were high, but the products were also high-quality. We'll definitely be back. read more

I have been in here several times for different things and I have never been disappointed. I have two dogs and a cat that are all very picky eaters. My dog Luna is a little loco and has anxiety and that sometimes makes her not want to eat. Ginger has a skin allergy so bad that she's on some pretty harsh meds and my cat is just old and can't eat hard food anymore. I came here two nights ago because my dogs were going through one of their phases again where they wouldn't eat. I got the best help on which foods would be best and some advice to help them want to eat regardless of what they are feeling. Sure enough they LOVE the food we chose! I hope this lasts but if it doesn't I know that I can always go back there and find what I need. We also bought them the cutest sweaters! read more

Came here to look for some specialty items for my dog who just was diagnosed with athritis. She wasn't eating or drinking because of the meds she is on and we wanted to find a wet food to supplement some moisture. Maranda was very helpful in giving me some options and even gave me some sample cans foe free to see what works. I was blown away on the level of customer service this place provided. I am always glad to support a local non chain place that shows this much attention to customers. I will be back again. read more

Service is inconsistent and the advice is often confusing - even sales associates can't agree on products. I like the place, but do wish more consistency and frankly they need to improve their listening skills. The employee's at Mud Bay were so helpful. I arrived and was immediately greeted and assisted. I found out that the dog food I was feeding my dog was not carried there at Mud Bay due to the company refusing to disclose their food sources and I was given a great number of food samples from comparable brands. I was even given a nice letter and a $5 coupon as a new customer! Sure, after reading the reviews, I can see that their prices may be more expensive, but I have to say that you really get what you pay for. The new food I picked up was about the same price as the previous food (expensive food at big box store) I was buying, but this food came with great advice and I feel good about my purchase. WONDERFUL! Stopped in here while we were waiting for our oil change and the tall girl (i didn't get her name) helped us. She was great! She knew so much about all of the products and the history of the company. She helped us find a shampoo for our smelly itchy dog. She sent us home with brochures, sames of foods, samples of treats and a HAND WRITTEN CARD thanking me personally for coming in! WOAH! (not to mention the 5$ off coupon included in the card) It looks like this store carries everything i could ever want for my dogs, cats, and even my daughters hamster! I will definitely be back! I have shopped sporadically for years, glad to have them in Gig Harbor. However I do find the staff to be inconsistent with help - seems either to be in overly helpful or leave us alone mood. I'm beginning to think it's a Gig Harbor problem... but in the UP store recently and it seems consistent there now as well. Heard of his place many times but never went until recently when we were in Gig Harbor. Wish they had our dogs flavor of food (Canidae Bison) but they did have great treats!! Our dog loves the Grain Free mini Cheese treats and the compressed rawhide! We also FINALLY found a travel kennel for our cat!! It's green, spacious, not too complicated like the ones now usually are and great price! ($33.99) Staff knows a lot and very polite and can actually take and give jokes!!! Great assortment of food, treats and toys! In the front they have tons of info on vets, groomers, etc. Very clean store as well!!!!! Found out they have more stores closer to me in Lakewood so I don't have to drive so far!!!! read more

Mud Bay is a high quality pet supply store. They are a local chain that we ran across when we moved to Gig Harbor and bought a new puppy. Having grown up using Pet Smart, this store is a nice change. They have a nice set up off of Point Fosdick with ample space for you and the pup to visit the store. There is a nice selection of doggie treats that you scoop. There are also plenty of pre bagged treats. Little sample bags are available at check out that our dog loves. They have many leashes, harnesses, toys, food, kennels, and any other goodie you may need. The staff are friendly and ready to help, although we prefer the browse until we're ready to buy approach. The prices are a little higher than the big chains for similar items. I've only shopped here for our dog, but they seem to have just as many items for the cats, not sure about other pets. read more

The variety of pet foods is almost overwhelming. They have everything from the most basic foods to haute cuisine for my cats. When my elder cat was very sick--close to dying, actually--I received very sympathetic and useful advice on what might tempt him to eat. And it worked. A couple of months later, he's still around and much healthier. It's a plus that they offer samples of dry food to try out. It's a money saver. The staff is always helpful to me but not intrusive. I'm always offered assistance, but they don't push it. (I've never encountered anyone "aloof.") Karlee (the manager) is very friendly, and she runs the store well.
