Here's what I know, I spent over 2 years looking for a contractor. After interviewing 6 different…read morecontractors, (yeah, I realize 6 is a lot but so is undertaking a full home remodel) I finally thought I found the one! He promised me the World, easy peasy right? We discussed and agreed to a final price waaaaaay under my budget (by the way, ALWAYS question something that seems too good to be true) and I waited for him to start. And waited, and waited, and waited some more... so suffice it to say he didn't show, didn't call. NOTHING, nada, zero, ziltch!! At least a bad break up is through a text!? Ok I digress. So then I interviewed 3 more contractors (yup you heard correctly) Except, remember in Goldy locks and the 3 bears, with the porridge being too hot, too cold and just right... well I interview 3 contractors 2 were expensive and REALLY TOO EXPENSIVE like $75,000 to $100,000 over my budget. My guess is they really didn't want to work in a condo and deal with the HOA even though I am the HOA president. I finally found Juan Carlos of Mancilla construction services from a patient of mine. And I have to say, he was the DA BOMB! He did everything he said he would. He was on budget and on time. Well, on time I use loosely because if it wasn't for the city inspectors it would have cut at least a month and a half off the schedule. Of course everything didn't go exactly to plans, but what does? (Words of wisdom) don't have a preconceived notion as to what you want because that will change as soon and the walls come tumbling down. You add things you take a way things. Just don't set your heart on having everything. Unless you have a unlimited supply of $$$$. So there is going to be a limit what you can do and Juan Carlos always explained "Michael, I can do what ever it is you want but, know it's not going to be cheap!" So have your dream and but be realistic. We also had some tile issues and other things only because if you go back to the beginning of this story, I purchased everything 2 years ago. So knowing nothing about construction, I jumped into It thinking I would just be ahead of the game. Unfortunately not know anything about measuring correctly, I didn't purchase enough tile for some things and too much for other things. So long story short, things were discontinued so it took some time to find matching tile to replace the discontinued, yada yada... live and learn?? And TOTALLY MY FAULT!
All I can say is trust what this man tells you, he's a amazing contractor and a fine human being. We've actually become friends. Juan Carlos is a true gentleman and very honest. His crew were awesome and they are very clean, organized and respectful. We did our condo during the covid pandemic so not only was it stressful because of that but, the thought of remodeling could have pushed us over the edge. Juan Carlos made sure he and his crew were not going to add more stress to our lives then absolutely necessary. Sorry about the lengthy review but I could not stress how great he was. And in the end, we are living in a beautiful home. We are so happy! Everyone who has seen our place are absolutely floored from what we were living in to what it is now.
Thank you so much Juan Carlos! You're the best!
