Imagine how many people have ridden on the L Line as one of the first segments of the underground Canarsie Line over the past 100 years. Amazing! No Less Than Everything Comes Together. Going back and forth from Williamsburg to Prospect Heights meant a lot of trips from this station through Manhattan. I don't think I'll ever understand why there still isn't a way to get from Brooklyn to Brooklyn without going through Manhattan. Yet, it allowed me to discover a series of beautiful mosaics by Marcel Dzama. The Sun. The Moon. The Sky. All connected in No Less Than Everything Comes Together by Marcel Dzama. The mosaics are so interesting and detailed. Dzama cites that he was influenced by the great Dada movement artist, Marcel Duchamp, but the mosaics remind me more of the Catalan architect, Antoni Gaudi. Either way, the mosaics are so fun and playful. Take a few minutes on your vacation or your daily commute to enjoy the whimsical dancers, the sun, the moon and a few historical characters that all play a part in the mosaics in the underground Bedford Avenue Subway.

Pretty much the best way to get from Manhattan to Greenpoint. This MTA subway stop seems kind of…read moreold and worn but it's functional. The G line subway trains connect from the L train at Lorimer and they seem to be newer cars, and its usually just one stop away. At Nassau station just be sure to standing mid platform as the trains stop there for boarding. It's situated well as there is plenty to see and do around it within a few minutes walk - bars, shopping, restaurants, and more.

This is like a little more ghetto version of Williamsburg. Even though it looks pretty old, it's still fine. It serves the G Train. This is the last stop from Queens before you get to Williamsburg. As expected there's lots of hipsters. They have spilled over into this neighborhood. A few cool vegan restaurants have opened here. The coolest is Screamer's Pizza. It's just a quick walk from here. They have very good shit. After this go to Van Leeuwen Ice Cream. They have awesome non dairy flavors. It has more interesting things outside it than in it. It's another example of location making a station good. There's also a connection to the Long Island Railroad.

Stairs are so damn painful and tiring to go up and down. Sucks a lot. Wish these above ground train stations got more escalators and elevators. There is an abandoned old mini above ground train station above the JMZ platforms that are not used anymore so there are many train lines all over the place in Myrtle Avenue. One bad thing about this train station is the fried chicken smell when you get off the train. The smell is stronger in the Queens platform. Cannot believe the smell is so damn strong from the Popeyes downstairs. The other Popeyes are not that strong as this one. This one is probably frying too much chicken or have weird ventilation.

There's a J express and Z skip stop - yea the mythical Z train exists - that will get you to Delancey/Essex station, in lower Manhattan, pretty quickly. Usually then it just dawns on me that, this is just New York and just a regular Sunday in Williamsburg. Some people just might be dressed as a cat on the subway for some reason, there are a lot of nice spots to eat around here and House of Yes (close enough) nearby and plenty other bars to check out basically any day of the week.

Unfortunately, if you're mobility-impaired, you're going to have a helluva time getting up and down the stairs; I broke my kneecap a few months ago, and because I wore a knee immobilizer for a month, I wasn't able to go to places with high rickety staircases like most of the elevated stations in the city. Many of them do have elevators, however; it's just not always possible to know which ones--and which ones are operational. (I know people want to give me the side-eye if I ask for their seat on the bus, and for that reason I'm more likely to stand now rather than even ask.) Fortunately, my knee has healed by now. This station is great; I love the J train, particularly when it goes express to Myrtle avenue (To quote Henry Miller, no saint ever walked there.)

The driver texted that he was "here" when he wasn't, and showed up several minutes late -- the kind of time I could've used to get ready instead of waiting outside. When I got there, he said the ride was $45 even though dispatch quoted $42. He was nice and admitted they "do that sometimes" and told me to just pay $42, but that's not acceptable business practice. Then he drove to the wrong doctor's office -- Mount Sinai instead of NYU -- and I ended up 30 minutes late to my appointment, practically begging them to still see me. Afterward, I called to discuss the pricing issue and book a ride home. Dispatch said a driver would arrive in 5-8 minutes. I went outside immediately and waited in the cold. No one came. I was left on hold multiple times, told different stories, and then saw the first driver marked as a no-show while they sent another one 18 minutes away. After waiting nearly half an hour, I finally gave up and got a regular taxi at 12:35 PM. One of their own drivers told me Metro dispatches jobs to multiple unaffiliated companies and often doesn't pay them on time -- so everyone loses. Completely disorganized and unreliable. Don't risk it, especially if you have somewhere important to be.
