Mt. Washington Jewelers has been around since I can remember and a while before that too! They are a family owned and local jewelry store that specializes in fine jewelry and watches. I brought my watch here the other day to have some links removed and the battery replaced. I was greeted with kind and very helpful jewelry associates. I dropped it off at the end of the day and it was ready the next morning. The only thing I wasn't happy about was the price of my service. It cost $10 for the link removal and $9.50 for the battery. A little too pricey on the battery side if you ask me! The selection of watches and jewelry they had in the store was impressive. There were some beautiful hand drawn designs for engagement rings. One of the cases held some gorgeous antique estate jewelry. I also liked some of their necklaces. They buy estate jewelry and watches too! The sales associate asked me if I was interested in the estate jewelry and said that they have tons more in the back! read more

Have used this jeweler for years and have had nothing but great service. Several years ago they rebuilt a watch for me and it recently gave up the ghost. I had them rebuild it again and was told that the case had to be glued as it was falling apart. The new rebuild was not working properly and I returned it to get it repaired. They couldn't repair the case and found my exact watch in a newer model and gave it to me free of charge. Where else can you receive this kind of service. I am more than pleased. read more

Not a good service experience - will not be back. I brought a watch here to repair it as this store is not only the local Victorinox authorized service center, but also in large part because of all the other positive reviews. Initially, the repair seemed fine - they glued a number back on the dial for me. However, only a short while later I was wearing the watch at work and I noticed the dial had started to spin freely within the case. I had not hit or dropped the watch (I only wear it to the office occasionally). I struck me as a bit odd that this new problem would develop so shortly after the initial repair and cleaning (which was moderately expensive). I brought the watch back to the shop and was told the problem was likely the result of one or both of two small metal dial feet sheering from the dial face. They would need to be soldered back on. I thought the shop would do this for free given the recent repair -and as it seemed to me likely the damage was somehow related to the disassembly / repair. The two shopkeepers immediately became defensive and told me that there was no way they had any culpability and that this could only have been caused by me hitting or dropping the watch. There is no way I dropped it and I certainly don't believe I ever bumped it significantly, let alone enough to sheer metal pins off the face inside the watch without damaging some other part of the watch. Of course there is no way to prove who is right. Well - I asked the owner if he would do the repair at his cost out of goodwill and he more or less laughed at me and said no. (I think it would have even been reasonable for him to split his actual cost with me). I am just a bit surprised at how neither of the shopkeepers would even consider the possibility that they might have caused this damage. I will not be back. The days of the customer always being right are gone here. read more

My hubby and I were shopping for a very special anniversary gift a while back. He always wants me to shop around first before he goes after something that is of "investment quality". I walked into Mt. Jewelers figuring that since it was a neighborhood store. On this particular day, I happen to be dressed quite down as I had been working in the yard. Mind you, I wasn't an entire disaster, however, my make-up and hair had seen better days. No sooner had I walked in, the owner aksed "Can I help you with something?" "Yes......I'm looking for a diamond ring...my anniversary is coming up next month and my husband wanted me to shop around." I said. I moved over to one particular case and sidled up next to a very gorgeous ring I had spied...It looked to be about 2 - 2 1/2 carats center stone and I inquired. To my surprise and shock, the owner informed me that he wouldn't pull the ring out unless I was serious about purchasing!!!!! "Whaaaaatttt???????" Now before I go on, I should go on to tell you that there really wasn't much said after that other than "GOODBYE"...My husband went on to purchase a 2.69 carat diamond ring for me and it was NOT at Mt. Washington Jewelers. And I suppose that an owner of a small time business has every right to run it the way they see fit, but i just can't help myself in wondering how many other businesses out there cut their own throats by the throws of fear and over control of customers walking into their establishment? Shame really....they could have has a wonderful customer. We're now loyal customers of FACET JEWELERS in Amelia Ohio where my husband makes ALL of his purchases and we send ALL of our referrals. I brought my late father's 15-year old Swiss Army watch - which had stopped working - in for repair. After opening the watch and carefully considering its condition, I was told it's condition was such that for it to operate correctly it would be best if the watch was completely restored. The amount quoted for what was signficantly more work than I expected was in excess of what I wanted to spend and when I said so I was told the price would remain good and to come back any time. In fact, the gentleman who inspected the watch - one of the store owners - wrote the list of specific work to be done and the quote on the outside of an envelope in which he placed the watch and I left. Over 2 years passed and I decided I'd like to have Dad's watch repaired. I took it back and the same gentleman who inspected the watch before was there and when I handed him the envelope (which had remained more-or-less untouched in the glove box of my car) he immediately indicated he remembered the watch and said he'd still honor the price. About 2 weeks later, I got a call indicating the watch was ready. Even though I was told the watch would look new when they finished with it, I didn't expect that to be literally true. However, contrary to my expectations; one would be hard pressed to know the watch had ever been worn. I can't say how much I appreciate having this small remembrance of my father on my wrist and the sense of gratitude I have for the care with which it was returned to it's original condition the day he bought it. read more
