I wanted to go horseback riding for my birthday. I found Stillwater Ranch by searching for trail…read morerides. I am so happy I did. This place was EXACTLY what I was looking for. The owners, Barbara and Dalton were so nice and down to earth, They are true animal lovers just like we are. They have over 20 horse, 3 dogs, 2 mules and they offer it all. This isn't your 1 hour trail ride up a dirt road and back. This ride is 3 to 4 hours long, through trees, down what looks like animal trails in the woods, you criss cross through the woods and clear cuts in the Skykomish River Valley then you head up mountain to this amazing lookout and have lunch. I rode a wonderful gelding named Bernie. Bernie's a Missouri Fox Trotter and he was super sweet. Chris rode Comet, she's a Tennessee Walker. Chris said she floated. You can see for miles up on "the rock". When you look down into the valley and see just how far you have ridden, you are amazed. Dalton said it is probably 5 miles. The lunch is amazing, it's from the Sultan Bakery and it is one of the best lunches I've had. Sitting up on the rock just me, Chris, and Dalton was so relaxing. We became instant friends. Stillwater Ranch offers a variety of rides that include river rafting, fishing, moonlight rides, overnight camping and much, much more. You can ride in all seasons - We are looking forward to a winter ride when the valley is covered in snow. They are even starting a wine dinner ride - woo hoo. The next time we need an equestrian fix, we will look to Stillwater Ranch to supply it.

I loved that we got on the horses right away. Once on horses that were somewhat aligned with our experience levels and nervousness (I wasn't nervous and got a sassier horse haha), they gave us a brief intro to how to control the horse. Then we were off pretty quickly! The guides spread out throughout our trail group and kept an eye on us. We stayed as a group and they checked in when needed. The views were incredible- we rode right along the river and it was so beautiful. After the ride, we got to feed and brush our horses, and even got to meet some cows and baby horses! It is so lovely to see how happy all the animals are here and how well taken care of they are. Such a special experience!

He asked a lot of thoughtful questions and made the whole experience feel really personal. I rode a horse named Ditto, and my boyfriend rode Ranger. Both were so well-trained and gentle. The ride itself was peaceful and scenic, and you could tell the horses were well cared for and loved. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for a relaxing, memorable horseback riding experience. Thanks again, Peter and Skyland Ranch!

This review has been months overdue. We started about 6 months ago once a week lessons for my…read moredaughter. It's unfortunate that the owner Katie claims she has a world class facility and believes in strong values for young women yet that was not our experience. The ONLY reason I stayed this long was for my daughter-and how close and convenient it was to our home. There was a point where my children were sick and we needed a reschedule. I could not get ahold of the Instructor or anyone on this "farm" for 2 weeks. The fact we pay one month ahead and no contact did not sit well with me. Upon finally getting a text to schedule we returned and I did make a comment that I was not appreciative of no follow up. Katie approached me and let me know that she had no time to talk and that she and the instructor liked my daughter and that was the only reason we were "there". A jab at me I can take. I continued to go for my daughter no big deal. I did think it was unfortunate she approached me so hostile as if we were bothering her trying to reschedule for a month we paid for. Unprofessional either way. It's unfortunate that with all of the quotes on empowering women on your walls you act so catty. I suppose that's why she caters to teenagers because she cannot get along with adult women they are seen as a threat. Her sister continued to make comments about a stroller I had walking through the barn.. I had been there 6 months with that stroller and was just now hearing how I shouldn't walk through the barn with it pretty convenient catty behavior comes out full force when they cannot take feedback. As far as " world class facility " goes it is far from that. I've lived in multiple states and visited facilities such as Express Horsemanship in Yukon Ok that is world class. This is highly over emphasized term with this place. No heaters for horses no warm water the floor in the barn is barely held together or flat. The viewing room is dark damp and cold the sliding door barely opens correctly, roof leaks Mismatched roofing and poor lighting. The term working farm is also misused in this case. The female staff seem very intimidated by Katie although probably work perfect for her to boss around. This is absolutely backward and after speaking to a few horsemanship's in the surrounding cities that actually have heat and warm water / clean facilities for clients and horses ... I can see why I should not have settled for Deerfield because of location. If the Owner lived by her written values I could see this place thriving. It is a shame, because young women need great mentors and community. The reputation Deerfield has that I've seen and heard from other facilities/ horsemanship trainers ....is not standing to what their values state, the fact I've heard the same feedback and opinion from ACTUAL high class facilities backs why I need to write this review. THE fact that I have business and family connections to world champion reining coaches/trainers and horses such has the Flarida Family ( Shawn Flarida reining ) and Matt Mills/ Karen Mills ( Matt Mills Reining ) and have told them of her treatment of myself and daughter they could only shake their head and let me know I made a terrible decision going to that "place" And are happy we found better options. The facility has possible potential. The owner seems in my experience to be in a comfort zone of a high school bitter mentality and it's too bad. Check other facilities that will assist in great horsemanship and confidence for your young impressionable child.

We…read moretransitioned from another barn where we felt the 'horse management' side of things was missing. At Brackenhollow, we've found exactly what we were looking for: real experiences with horsemanship and people who are happy to share their knowledge. A major highlight for my daughter is the Brackenhollow Pony Club, which offers an incredible extra curriculum. It covers everything from unmounted horse care and bandaging to rally prep, providing the deep technical knowledge that is so hard to find elsewhere. Not only have our riding skills improved under the guidance of incredibly kind and knowledgeable instructors, but we've also deepened our hands-on experience by working at the barn. The best part is that you get out what you put in - whether you want to be deeply involved in the 'gross and glorious' side of horse care or just enjoy your weekly ride, there's a place for you. You can be as involved as you want to be. The instructors are amazing, the students are supportive, and it is completely down-to-earth rather than overly competitive while also offering competition experience if desired (my daughter just started showing in jumper events last summer). We are so happy we found our home here!

Joanna and Duschka have had an immense amount of training from international experts and have impressive competition experience but are not pretentious. They give lessons to everyone from beginners to advanced competitors. They own a variety of horses of different sizes, colors, and breeds covering every level. Riders can also bring their own horse in for lessons. Before and after lessons, riders are taught how to groom, tack up and untack, and check their horse. Joanna and Duschka teach dressage, jumping, cross-country and eventing skills including training for competition and pony club ratings. I have been riding and taking lessons for over 10 years with Joanna and Duschka. I started as an adult having never really ridden as a kid and being a bit scared of horses. Starting with private lunge lessons I learned to balance properly enough to ride in group lessons. Soon I ended up taking riding twice a week and attended weeklong adult summer camp. Now I lease a horse at a neighboring barn and have weekly lessons at Brackenhollow. Lessons are not cheap but are great exercise that is well worth the money and much cheaper than having your own horse. I have seen many riders at Brackenhollow go from being timid or shy to become confident riders or competitors able to manage their horses even in difficult situations. Brackenhollow may not appear to be a fancy barn like others in the area but is a gem of a find near the Emerald City!
