Bought the components to my last computer here. You need to keep a couple of things in mind to have a good experience here. The first thing is that you'll find the customer service to be minimal. The second thing is that you really need to know what you're after before you go in. Don't go unless you know exactly what you want. It's not unusual to see people go in with a highlighted price list. That said, this place is cheap. Very cheap. It's why I keep going back.

Went in today after encountering problems installing a new cpu. The young man I spoke to was incredibly helpful and generous with his time and knowledge, he ended up giving me a couple of parts for my motherboard which were missing, which completely solved my problem. Outstanding service, and very highly recommended by a very grateful customer. read more

I ordered a new PC case, which arrived as expected, but turned out to have a manufacturing defect and thus was DOA. I emailed their support pictures of it, and followed up twice more in the coming days but never heard back. Eventually I had to call them, and they said that they could not just replace the part that was damaged - which was considered a spare part - but that I would have to return the whole thing, and it would take two to four weeks to be assessed and replaced. I told them this was not not be suitable, so instead would like a refund, but was then told that they could not guarantee a refund. Having looked into it, I found I was within my rights to receive a refund, so called them back and arranged the return. At first even though it was an online order, they wanted me to drive (3 hours) to the nearest store to return it, but I made it clear I was not going to do that, and they seemingly begrudgingly agreed to generate a return label. Whilst I was thanking them for their help, they were monotone and unenthused the entire time. They also said that they can put a request in for the refund, but it may still take a number of weeks. This also does not align with Australian Consumer Law. I won't be buying from MSY / Umart again, and would encourage others to note how poor their online reviews are now. I didn't check, as I know previously they were a good company, but I did not notice Umart had acquired them. read more

Like PC DIY, this is one of the two places I will go to when I'm looking for cheap good tech. As mentioned, it is best that you know what you're looking for before you go in and one of the best ways to do this is to check out their price list and catalogue which is available online. Unlike most retail stores, the catalogue is just a text listing of all the things they stock so you'll have to do some research online or in other retail stores to truly get an idea of what you might be buying. That said though, if you're on a tight budget, it's well worth the time to do it if you're looking to save money. Customer service isn't bad, but it definitely is minimal. They expect you to come up to them and to tell them what it is you're looking for. Depending on who you are talking to they can recommend solutions, however do your best to know at least roughly what you're looking for. You can find parking directly outside the shop which is really convenient when you just want to quickly stop by and walk in to buy something. It definitely beats driving around the block 3 times looking for parking which is what I would usually find myself doing when they used to be located at where PC DIY currently is. Don't feel put off if you don't get the sort of attention or customer service you would get in places like JB Hi-fi or Officeworks. That's not why I go there anyway. When I go there I want to save money, I want good tech and I want it fast. They deliver in all those aspects, and for me that's what matters the most. read more

For those who do not know what MSY is all about, it is a technology store where you can buy goods at a damn good price. Some items are close to wholesale prices. What can you find there? Well almost everything from Computers, SD cards, Keyboards to cameras. This store is particularly popular to those who build their own PC's and those who are technologically savvy. I found out about this store from my brother who has always built his own computers from scratch. If it was not for him, I probably would not have haven about it. MSY rely on word of mouth, not much promotion. But, their prices speak for themselves so it works for them. Now, in saying this, I should also mention that this store is for people who know what they want before they arrive. Let's just say you need a new hard drive or motherboard. I would recommend looking at their online list of products before you arrive. There are no pictures to look at, only a stocks list for you to decipher. So, maybe do your homework before you arrive. I am also giving you this advice as the staff are sometimes not that helpful, they generally just want to fetch you your item and process it. So don't expect friendly and helpful service. But, if you need a SD card or item for your computer, be sure to shop at MSY to get a bargain! Seriously, I just picked up a SD card 32gb for $23 top quality brand. read more

Certainly the technology store of my choice in Adelaide and I will try my hardest to buy from the local business if I can. It's like there's no drawback, when they often seem to offer the best prices for a great variety of products, to name a few: high end gaming laptops, audio solutions and even basic high capacity flash drives. The location is also central, but conveniently parking is not usually at a premium around the area. If you want to build a computer from parts, I wouldn't recommend anywhere else, as here they are bound to have everything, and if not, they replenish stock often. They also won't hesitate to assist you with your queries, but don't go in thinking you get to browse stock, as it is all behind the counter so do go in with your shopping list. I do believe there has been some contention over their returns policy but this has been recently rectified so this should not prevent the store of obtaining a perfect 5 star rating. read more

A friend once told me that MSY is a great store for geeks, but for anyone else with only a basic knowledge of computer, forget it. MSY is all about low prices. Famous for its ugly web page, the retailer offer great deals with regular special on offer. I have been purchasing my computer parts from them for many years and had some good and bad experiences. MSY is known to play hardball with it comes to warranty clam. I once purchase an ASUS motherboard from them over a year ago and it has unfortunately been playing up. ASUS have a two year warranty for motherboard in Australia, but MSY refuse to replace it for another one or take it in for repairs. They told me to contact ASUS directly. On the other hand, MSY keep their prices low when you compare it to major retailers. When I first purchase the motherboard it was a lot cheaper to get it from MSY than from anywhere else. MSY is an excellent choice for the PC enthusiast, but not the everyday consumer. If you are looking for good deals do your research beforehand and remember to keep your purchase receipt. Their web page is not design very well but the contents are regularly updated and with special deals. read more

I only been in here couple of times, but this store is seriously my husband's best friend. I think he would live in it if I'd (they they'd!) let him. This place is dedicated to everything computers, at really reasonable prices. If you're that way inclined, you could easily build a system quarter of the price that you would pay in a big store. Service is pretty average, but the amount is saving you can forgive that. I usually wait in the car, and he is usually out within 10 min arms full of stuff. read more
If you know anything about computer machines, the interwebs and stuff like that then you probably have heard of MSY technology. They are a good source of cheap and quality PC parts. I'm not a computer genius by any stretch but I have managed for the most part to be able to go in, buy a hard drive, network adapter or keyboard and install it myself. A few things to be noted about dealing with MSY. Firstly, they don't have a smile and greet type of customer service here. Pretty much the way you have to do business with them is to look at their parts price list PDF on their website. Find what you are looking for, google search the name and read a review and check that it's definitely what you want. Then go into the store, stand in line and tell them what you would like to purchase. Kind of like the soup nazi on Seinfeld, but not quite as intimidating. Another side note is that these guys don't like taking back products that you bought if it was your mistake (e.g. RAM or hard drives that aren't compatible with your motherboard). I think this is fair enough due to the fact that they are quite often 10 - 20% cheaper than JB, Harvey Norman or Jaycar with components. There are probably other cheaper or better serviced computer parts stores around but I keep going back to MSY. I've dealt with them probably 20 times and they have been pretty damn good 95% of the time. read more

I'm only going from my experience... Poor personal service is prominent but other than that, this business does well with their product distribution. The store is basically intended for experienced customers, not the general public. Providing satisfactory customer service is pretty difficult with the way the business is set up. They don't have time to waste, but that's not an excuse for no smiles :P Competitive, if not cheaper prices here if you know what you're doing. If you know what you're looking for prior to visiting, you'll be alright. If you ask an employee questions, you're gonna have a bad time. Research/know what you're looking for first and know the price before requesting. If you have any inquiries, make sure you have some knowledge. read more
The combination of great customer support, fantastic stock and great prices is no fantasy - it does exist and there is no excuse why a SA business could not aim for this (look at newegg for example). This store has probably the largest selection of components in South Australia. Not the cheapest, but not the priciest either. Their online presence is terrible as the website is clunky and hard to navigate however. When trying to place orders online or browse through catalogues, make sure you have 2 kilos of patience and a magnifying glass. Customer service leaves much to be desired with the people behind the counter not having patience to talk about components, and are far from helpful. Payment process is not quite straight forward particularly if you are making large purchases or these are corporate orders (oh, and credit cards will incur an extra fee). Oh you want to return something? Good luck! They probably know they don't have competition, so they can get away with not caring for their customers. read more

When I placed my $4,600 order from their warehouse in my city I was never told how long it would take for it to arrive at my doorstep. After they gladly took my money they told me it would take 4-8 days to arrive in my receipt they sent to my email. I was floored. Since then I've been trying to contact them to allow me to pick up the order for their warehouse myself. I told them I wasn't looking to get a refund for the handling charge they placed or a discount on anything. I just wanted my products. I was repeatedly told I would have to speak to them via E-mail about this and that there was nothing they could do over the phone. I informed her that I had in fact e-mail them two days prior with no response. I asked to speak to a manager. Whomever was on the line said "I'll transfer you" and then hung up. This was the third time I had been hung up on. My most recent call with them has revealed that before it is even dispatched from their warehouse it will be 5-7 days. That isn't shipping, that is just before it leaves the warehouse. The customer service i have received has been unacceptable and the amount of time it is taking to receive my products is unacceptable. read more

As others have said on this thread, MSY is good for its cheap prices. However, their service is so bad that it borders on the comical. Think 'Fawlty Towers' type service. I ordered a full computer package from them in August 2016, and stated that I wanted to use it for document editing, ie. that great graphics were not needed as I wouldn't play games on it. They replied in a terse email that they'd put together a cheap enough package at around $1,000 and let me know on the day it was ready for pickup. I then asked if they could include a printer, to which there was no reply. Around a week later, I get a text saying the computer has arrived in the store. After mentioning that I'd asked about a printer, the response was "We may never sell them again." I see. After being shown the bits and bobs, I took the computer package home. Little did I know that I was required to tell them that I wanted a computer package that was ready to be used. It turns out that they installed a reasonable graphics card, which I didn't mind, but the widescreen monitor had an HDMI inlet and a VGA inlet for the cable that connects the motherboard to the monitor. The motherboard had three outlets, VGA, DVI, and HDMI. The folks at MSY had probably not thought carefully about the package, or tested it, and had supplied me with a VGA to VGA cable, which did not provide any picture onscreen. So I rang them back and told them that the cable wasn't working and I had no picture. They literally laughed condescendingly and told me that they don't stock HDMI cables and I needed to get one myself ("It's not their responsibility to check compatibility of components"). When I asked which cable I needed to buy, the guy told me "HDMI probably, but I'm not sure." -Click- and then he hung up. So I went out to buy an HDMI cable from Kmart and plug it in. Still no picture. Then I rang Officeworks, and they were helpful. They said I'd most likely need an HDMI male to DVI male cable. So I went in and they were very polite and supportive. The HDMI to DVI cable indeed worked, and I can now see what I'm typing. The first order of business was to type up this review of MSY. In short, if you are looking for parts and know exactly what you want, then MSY are good for their prices. But if you don't know a lot about computers, or want people who care about their customers, then look elsewhere. I'd rather pay a bit extra and give my money to people who take a bit of pride in their business. read more

I had an issue with a Logitech mouse I purchased from MSY and they replaced it immediately with no hassle. I have bought my computer supplies from MSY for many years, and will continue to do so. Recommended! read more

Customer service is awful. I went there for a monitor and the people behind the desk were far from helpful and they didn't have any knowledge what I was talking about. Moreover, I tried out a $10 t-shirt and the person behind the counter was asking me where I put the t-shirt back. I hope he was not suspecting me for theft. Anyway, I bought the monitor because it was cheap and I didn't have time to go anywhere else. read more
