She has been doing my hair for years and every time I go in, I always leave amazed about how trendy, beautiful and healthy my hair looks! She can work with color like no other, and every picture I bring in she will customize it for me so I can get what I want and feel comfortable and sexy in it! Many on my friends have gone to her and are just as loyal. It is so hard to get in with her because she is so in demand but believe me, she is worth your wait! When I called them, I mentioned specifically that I want to do a perm in the future and want to get a haircut that will work well with the perm. So they recommended me a hairstylist that supposed to be a perm specialist. She gave me a D*** look when she first saw me with long thick hair...and when I mentioned about hot perm(digital perm/korean perm), she had no idea what I was talking about. Even the salon doesn't offer hot perm, she as a specialist should know what is available in the market... then back to the haircut, I have to get it redone right after that, not much layers can be seen at all and two stylists have seen my hair later said it was a bad haircut. Well, of course if you like spacious salon atmosphere, excellent location, then go for it,if the real hair cut skill matters, then try to avoid this salon. I've been coming to Shampoo Dolls since 2009. I love how your greeted once you walk in to the salon. They offer you a drink, I feel spoiled with my water with ice and lemon. They make me feel like a VIP, every single time. I see Vanessa Valdez, she is awesome, attentive, sweet, caring, and I love the different colors, styles, haircuts, and highlights she does to my hair. I had my first visit today, with Isabel, and omg this is probably THE BEST A-line bob I have ever had! I've had my fair share of stylists doing what they think is good or right and not what I want. She really listens to what you ask for, and is super friendly. I called ahead to let them know I was going to be a bit late for my appointment at noon, that conflicted with her next appointment, so I was (luckily) moved to 3pm the same day. Isabel is the best !! Firstly, this location is where New Things West or whatever that dress shop used to be and they apparently have parking in the back but I mistakely parked in the front and a security guy came and asked me if I was going to get a haircut. No big deal. The area is very spacious and I was immediately greeted, offered a beverage and everyone was so nice. The came Isabel. She is gorgeous ! I told her that I was a new mom and was looking to hack off my mid-back length hair. I was thinking I might get some resistance because I've wanted to cut my hair very short for a long time (years) but the hair stylists I had always talked me out of it. Which might have been a good thing because their reluctance makes me think they weren't too sure about their skills. Oh, I should also mention that when I called, I explained to them my hair type and what I was going for and they matched me up with Isabel. So Isabel looked at my hair, offered suggestions, then in two or three cuts, snipped off years worth of hair to donate. You know, I was half-tempted to just get up and walk out of there after that because it left me with this gorgeous bob (I will definitely go back for that haircut someday) where it was shorter in the back and longer in the front. She must have seen my hesitation because she explained that I would still have hair in my face and would have to pin it back all the time so we went with the original plan. I was nervous going in .. the last time I decided to be adventurous and cut my hair really short, I ended up with this burnt orange hair that made me look like a Q-tip with these awful uneven patches everywhere. But I LOVE my hair !! I don't think I will ever go long again (hair, that is :p). She also taught me how to style it .. it takes me about a minute and I've gotten so many compliments on my hair. This place is amazing!! I have really long hair. Long as in down to my waist long so I'm always afraid when I get a haircut that the hair stylist will freak out and mess up my hair as most of them are not used to handling long hair. However, my stylist, Nick, was amazing!!! He did a great job at discussing how much much hair I wanted cut. Didn't force me to go shorter than I requested as that has happened at other salons I've been too. He made me feel very comfortable being there because he actually hold ups a conversation with you while your getting your hair cut. Unlike other places where there is awkward silence for a good two hours that you are there. I must give Nick a job well done for having to blow dry and style my hair, because of its length. The loose blow dried curls were perfect. I highly recommend this place and extra highly recommend Nick as your stylist. read more

This was my first visit to Shampoo Dolls and I was totally impressed from the amazing instructions from the lovely gentleman and consummate professional over the phone to the AMAZING GINA CHANG!!! I asked if they would take a "Before the Door" photo, and then I was offered a robe, chocolates, beverages, magazines and a full discussion about my hair issues. Gina educated me on the color, texture, shine, cut and provided the best options to me. She is so lovely talented and engaging. We had a great time while she treated and sculpted my hair to something I only dreamed about. The salon itself is clean, wide open, "cool" and comfortable! I felt very special in here. I love my hairdresser. Jesse is a master hair colorist/stylist, and he has been taking care of my hair for about 10 years now. I had decided a long time ago that I would never be one for surgical enhancements but the one thing that I would always do to improve my appearance would be to take good care of my hair (it is your crown!), and Jesse has done a wonderful job of helping me with this. I am someone who enjoys trying different things with my hair, and he has never disappointed me with his effort. I've had previous hairdressers who were also very good, but Jesse is the first one to take me on an adventure with colors. With highlights, we've tried almost every tone imaginable, and one of my favorites was a combination of reds/orange that gave the imagery of fire that he had done for me right before a vacation to Hawaii. I had a lot of fun with it as I was constantly being approached and asked how the color had been done, so it was a great way to get to mingle with the locals. Jesse is always easy to talk to and he works in a professional way that makes me feel very comfortable and trusting with anything that he does to my hair. He is excellent with highlight patterns and cutting hair to enhance it. I appreciate that he takes the time to explain different hair products and the techniques to take care of my hair myself at home. I love being able to give him an idea knowing that he'll be able to make it even better. I've always found it a big plus that his color/cuts can last me for extended periods of time if I can't make it in to see him right away. And I always love the way that he styles his own hair - it's always different, and often I wish that my hair could be done exactly like his! I love the ambience of Shampoo Dolls - it's right up my alley with its setting of track lighting, open warehouse feel and always right on music choices. And of course Jesse fits right in with all of this along with the rest of his hipster fellow stylists. Although they are a high end salon, don't feel intimidated, as everyone is very friendly and it's very well run. read more

Pualani has been cutting my hair for years, and I would follow her anywhere. When she came to Shampoo Dolls, I was happy with this new place she has chosen to work. The salon is very well kept, and the staff is polite and helpful. Pualani is one of the most down to earth people I have ever met, and it's a joy to spend an hour with her while she cuts my hair. I like that this salon has its own free parking (in back, behind the building - which is precious when you consider this is Santana Row), and also that they allow you to tip on a credit card. MONICA - I've been going to Monica for several years and followed her from the other Shampoo Dolls location. She is amazing with my hair and always cuts and colors it exactly how I wanted it or often better than I dreamed. I'd definitely recommend her to anyone with thick, coarse and unruly hair. She also understands retro, pinup and rockabilly hair. I have seen some of the up-dos she has done and they are era correct and so gorgeous. I was recommended by a family member so I went. I regret it so much. Paid a total of $355 for a horrible job. It looks nothing how I wanted it. It's not even the color I showed I wanted. Instead of it being a light blonde, it's an ugly yellow color. My roots look a mess, I have ugly spots on my hair now, it's ridiculous I can't even style my hair like I would style it daily of how horrible my hair was left. I have to have it up or wear a hat every day! I definitely wouldn't recommend a friend or family member of mine to come here! What a nightmare! Only good thing is the friendly employees. read more

I'm so happy with Shampoo Dolls, I didn't know what to expect upon entering (I hate going to new places) I was warmly greeted by a gentleman working the front desk and was offered water right away, I loved the salon space and decor as well.. over all the salon did not disappoint! I love Pam! She's such an amazing hairdresser! I decided to come in to shampoo dolls as a spare of the moment kind of thing as I needed a change and was scheduled with Pam. So glad I came in! As I got into the chair, she asked me what I wanted and threw out a couple of suggestions as well. ( I wanted all over color with turquoise peekaboos). She went above and beyond and I am very happy with my hair. It was a mess when I came in and ended up beautiful when I left. 5 stars for Pam! The salon overall is very stylish, much bigger than the San Carlos location. Everyone seems very friendly and the receptionist is very attentive. This review is first for PAM. She is my favorite stylist and I have to say that she is a GENIUS. My color and my hair are always PERFECT after being in the hands of Pam. Moreover, she has a great personality. She is very kind and has a lot of tact. She also listens to what you want or do not want and even is able to say no if the style you have chosen won't fit you and no one other than an EXPERT is able to do that. In the past, I hated to go the hairdresser because he hated to stay there for hours but now that I know Pam, it is a very relaxing moment and I don't even look on my watch. Thanks to her, I feel more beautiful and I LOVE my hair! Regarding the salon, it was the first time I went there. (Pam was working somewhere else). So here is my first impression: it is huge and I like that each booth has a lot of room. I love this salon! I was looking for a modern place that was open on Sundays near Sunnyvale and could easily book an appointment. Shampoo dolls isn't by appointment only, which is good in my books just in case my impulsiveness takes over and I need to come in. Scheduling online was easy. I like that they show which stylist would be available at the hour blocks that are open. I read other Yelpers' reviews and saw that Vanessa Valdez is the best at bobs. I scheduled a 3pm appointment with her yesterday. When I arrived, there is private parking available for one hour, but I still parked at the parking garage for Santana Row because that is what I'm familiar with. I was confused on where the entrance was but I went up the stairs and opened whatever door lol. This place is rather large. I was promptly greeted by a man who checked me in and his coworker handed me a black robe. Let's just say the the start of my visit was on a good note. The dressing room was a little small but it makes sense since you are not undressing. The seating area was aesthetically pleasing, however there a large blank walls that can be filled with interesting art pieces that can compliment the ambiance. Vanessa came up to me and we walked me her workstation that was clean and simple. After discussing what I envisioned for my hair, she washed my hair and we went back to her work station. Throughout the process, I enjoyed my conversations with Vanessa. We were able to learn about each other and it made the entire experience more memorable and comfortable. Vanessa styled my hair with a curling wand and I came out of that salon feeling great because I knew I looked great. Let's be honest, I felt like I looked like a celebrity (ahem Vanessa Anne Hudgens ahem). Check out procedure was easy. I like that the staff didn't pressure me to buy any products. Overall, I will definitely be back! Shampoo Dolls deserves more amazing reviews on Yelp. It took me some time and scrolling to find this place on Yelp. Also the photos posted on its Yelp account doesn't do the business justice. But maybe it's better that this place is low key to keep up the quality. I originally had very long hair and was in desperate need of a stylist that I could trust cutting a good portion of my well grown healthy hair off for a cut that I have never done before. Not only was my consultation helpful but he really took into consideration what look I wanted while giving me his professional opinion to help guide me through this hair transformation I wanted. I've been going to Shampoo Dolls for about five years now. Moni is my go to stylist, she is awesome!! She makes you feel like you're old friends, finally getting the chance to catch up. Every time I get my hair done everyone wants to know who does my hair. I got my hair colored yesterday, and already have had about 15 people stop me to tell me they love my color, and want to know where I go. Knowing that Moni and the staff at Shampoo Dolls is extremely proactive about taking classes and furthering their knowledge in order to stay on top of the latest trends and styles shows in their work. I've been going to Jesse for hair coloring and cuts for many years, and he's the best. I've gone in with style boards of what I want, other times I have no idea, either way he helps me find the right cut and color for me. His blending of colors is always spot on. Jesse is very professional, fun to talk to, and bottom line, I trust Jesse with my hair. I don't come in as often as I should, but the best part is the hair cut is done so well that it lasts (it grows in evenly, and never choppy). I got the straightening treatment done on my hair last year and I really respect that Jesse wasn't pushing me to get the more expensive treatment, but advised me to a medium priced treatment to see if I liked it first. Shampoo Dolls- the receptionists and the rest of the stylists are all friendly. Maybe because they all have their own space in the huge room. It's got a great vibe, good music, nice people. read more
