This place was hands down our best meal of our entire week long visit to Sydney! Granted, we were walking everywhere and were staying in the Rocks area (I know there are lots of great places there but we didn't find very many). We were so busy with walking to all the sites and activities that when it came time to eat, we just ate at the highest rated and best sounding, Yelp rated spots, nearby to wherever we were at the moment. We randomly came across this place on a food list and were drawn in by the very interesting sounding menu. Of course we found it the morning of the day we were ending our week long trip to Sydney. We walked a long mile and a half in the rain to try it and were not disappointed. When you walk in it has a really cool, Asian, hip-hop ambiance, kinda hard to describe but I loved it. We made a reservation through open table so we could collect points but we arrived early and they were able to accommodate. There is loads of seating on different levels with big windows looking back at the city. We were there for lunch at 12:30 on a Friday and one of the levels was just about full, but we were sat immediately and there was still the other levels to accommodate seating anyways. The wait staff was super friendly and eager to help us with the menu. The white guy with the glasses was our main guy and he was awesome, but they were all great! He seemed to enjoy working there so much it made the whole experience that much better. We ended up getting: Cheeseburger spring rolls, they tasted just like the name and as a big burger fan, stoked. Kinda pricy for one but what isn't expensive these days and it was well worth the cost. Pork belly Banh Mi slider was delicious and tasted exactly how I like Banh Mi to taste, I eat lots of them and think I know what a good one is, I've never been to Vietnam so I couldn't say whether its traditional but don't care either. Definitely small slider sized but worth it. Curry chicken jaffle was unique and delicious. I had no idea what it was at first but it's like one of those sandwiches that's pressed and it seals the edges with everything inside. It was nostalgic and the curry was a really good yellow curry with some veggies in it too. It was mild spice so I covered it in sriracha. Persian fried rice was slightly spicy and really fragrant rice with a delicious sunny side up egg on top. It was really good and too spicy for my wife so I got to eat the entire thing. Stoners delight dessert was amazing. It sounded like a huge hodge podge of delicious things and it was. It almost sounded like too much and it wouldn't work but it totally did. It had everything..sweet, salty, crunchy, soft, hot, and cold. The Mars bar brownies and Nutella balls were my favorite part. Super, super, good, could only be better if I was stoned?! DEFINITELY will return should we be in Sydney again. I wish we had more time because we would have had more meals there and gotten to try more menu items. Lord almighty, if you're ever hankering for a good dessert run, don't walk, to Ms. G's and order yourself the Stoner's Delight 2.0. Plenty of people have written about this dish in their reviews, and they aren't lying--- I'm not sure how they came up with this dish (although I'm pretty sure the name of it has something to do with the state of mind when it was created), but it's perfection on a plate. Doughnut ice cream, caramelised bacon, homemade mars bar? Ummm, why don't you bring me a few platefuls? The best component of the dish, though, are the sugared potato chips. Thick potato chips that I'm assuming have been coated with a simple syrup and baked/broiled. I could have ordered five more of these dishes just to eat more of those bad boys. Sweet and salty heaven. I didn't have any of the other food, but did enjoy the Viet Nom Nom cocktail-- seemed like a lot of ice in the cup and not much liquid at all, so I'm not sure I'd order one of these again. I love Asian food. I'm a big fan. The only thing I love more than Asian food, is Asian fusion food. What better way to experience the best that Asian cuisine has to offer? Merivale's Ms Gs is exactly that. It's an Asian fusion restaurant, combining the best of Vietnamese, Taiwanese, Chinese and Korean cuisines into western inspired dishes. Head chefs Dan Hong and Jowett Yu have made the most of their Asian heritage and created a mouth watering menu at Ms Gs. One part hip bar, one part groovy restaurant, Ms Gs is a hoot. As soon as you enter the Potts Point restaurant, you can feel the energy. It's loud, it's busy, and it's ultra cool. There are no bookings at Ms Gs, so be prepared to put your name down at the door and wait for a table. But, believe me, it will be worth the wait. Once you've put your name down, head up the three flights of stairs to the bar at the top. Fingers crossed you're lucky enough to snare a couch, or at least a stool, but don't be too disappointed if you're left standing. At the bar, you'll notice the drinks have a sense of humour here. We love the 'packaged' drinks such as Ms Gs famous Yuzu Slushee and their paddle shots. When it's time to be seated, don't be surprised if you're seated at a communal table. This is not exactly the place to come for a quiet romantic evening for two. This is the kind of place you come to eat good food, have a drink, a laugh and a good time. Whether you're in a pair, or a group, you're well covered here. This evening, Mr J and I are lucky enough to score our very own table for two. As Mr J was a Ms Gs virgin, and visiting from interstate, I took control of the ordering. We had: * Mini bánh mì- chicken katsu * Ocean trout ceviche "Vietnamese style" * Prawn toast, yuzu aioli, herbs * Calamari & snow crab salad, yuzu & miso ranch dressing * D I Y Sang Choy Bao - Sichuan chilli lamb, smoked eggplant sambal As if there was ever any doubt in my mind, I was pleased to hear Mr J was suitably impressed. In fact, he described his experience as a 'tastebud sensation'! I couldn't have said it better myself. The dishes at Ms Gs are fresh, light and flavoursome, with just the right kick of spice. The prawn toast was great and one of their most popular dishes and the pork sliders were full of fatty goodness but the salads were the real star for me. Amazingly fresh and light, just what I needed and not what I was expecting. Ms. G's is like someone's dream restaurant - the dream of someone who wants to eat decadent, interesting takes on Asian cuisine, in a cozy wood floored restaurant that plays chilled out hip hop and has a glass walled view of the city. If that is your jam, then my god, this might be the only place on earth that caters to you. The menu is interesting, full of extremely creative flavour combinations, but as soon as our table had polished off the appetizers, we were totally willing to trust them. The food is simply fantastic. Here's the score: ***** The Vietnamese fish curry is bursting with layer upon layer of delicious flavours. Even though the broth is light, the flavours are so full-on that the dish overall feels very hearty. If you want something healthy but will also leave you feeling very full, definitely give it a try. **** Prawn toast - this is some incredibly decadent toast - almost like some sort of deep fry infused with prawn and topped with a mayonnaise. **** Covered with spices, shredded Parmesan, the corn on the cob is tasty and has a fiery kick. This restaurant was all the rage a few years ago when it opened and it's taken me this long to get there. I went for an anniversary dinner with my wife and it was a great night out. Like most Merivale group restaurants, the staff and team is exceptional. They all bring their individuality and class to all restaurants - this is no different. The restaurant itself is setup in a federation terrace in Potts Point. It's neon signage is a call out to the sights and sounds of any late night Asian metropolitan side street. Don't be fooled, this building has a few levels and can entertain couples and much larger groups of you are looking to entertain. My only downside on the place would be the bathroom being located at the very bottom may not be great for those who have accessibility needs. I am recovering from a calf injury at the moment and it was a but frustrating. If I wasn't it wouldn't be at all :) The food. We started with the Cheeseburger Roll. It's a spring roll (normal size) stuffed with the contents of what would make up an American cheeseburger - minus the bun! Delicious and I could just have many of those and would be sorted. Next up we tried out the Spicy Gyoza's, my wife isn't great with spices or chilli but she enjoyed it because of the stunning garlic based sauce served with it. It's pungent and has a slow burn! To finish the entree's we had a tempura Eggplant with smoked Ponzu sauce which gave a smoother taste than usual Ponzu sauce. Again outstanding! The Mains we chose were Fried Rice with Chicken and the Fried Chicken. By this point our eyes were bigger than our stomach but everything was so fantastic you could fault us. Fried rice was served with an fried egg that we had to break up and mix up into our meal. The Fried Chicken was crisp, a bit spicy (very mild) and it's served with a sweet soy based sauce and comes with many pieces! Great to share with two or three people. Drinks. I had the Notorious Tea and it comes in a small tea set but don't be thinking it's lame, because this is rum/cognac/lime so it was sweet and on point for the food we got as well. Dessert. The dessert was something else. Potato chips stuff out of bacon crumbs on top of a small mount of creme de Luca icecream, berries, peanut brittle and little bits and pieces of broken peanuts and pretzels. This was something else altogether - to true Masterclass of dessert. A fantastic restaurant in a great location with every working together in its favour! Really wanted to like this place. Had dinner here on a weekend, first thought was on how surprisingly casual it was, I thought it was just a bar, but no, the restaurant follows on multiple levels for customers. The wait staff were very attentive and efficient, they had suggested to order 2 dishes each at most, as all the dishes are designed to share. We started with the prawn toast, tasty on first bite, however, after my first piece, I felt that it was not something I could eat a lot of. The toast was crunchy, great texture, prawn was cooked to perfection, however together? Not a fan, wouldn't order it again. Second plate was the spicy sambal calamari. This came with a few crackers that taste similar to prawn crackers which u eat the calamari with. The staff did NOT inform us that the dish was SPICY. I don't like chilli, hence this dish was not enjoyed at all. However the calamari was soft, cooked well, but the flavour was far to spicy for my palette. Disappointed that the staff did not warn us upon order. The third and last, (thank goodness didn't decide to order more) was the nasi goreng, an Indonesian fried rice. It was infused with squid ink, so the rice was a brilliant colour of black rice. I quite enjoyed my first fork-full, chorizo added a nice complement to the dish, until however, this dish also contained chilli. Again, being someone who does not enjoy spicy food, I was extremely disappointed. At this point my partner and I wanted to leave. We paid $80 for food we did not enjoy, frankly at all. Ms. G's was recommended to me by some Sydney locals and friends that had been while visiting Sydney. It was highly recommended with excellent cocktails and food, but expect to wait a while for a table as it's hugely popular. A group of 5 went in the early evening before a concert so had no problem getting a table. The cocktails were great - I'd definitely recommend the Aloe Vera and the whiskey martini. The food was fantastic - and this is where Ms. G's has 5 stars. We had the pork hock, barramundi and fried chicken as large plates along with the brocollini for a small plate. All of it was fantastic and plenty of food for 5 people. Service was very good as well. Will be coming back here on the next trip to Sydney read more

Thankfully, we came here early, as the maitre'd informed us that they don't take reservations and lines can be very long, the later in the night it goes. We started off with Pacific oysters & ginger ponzu dressing. Then we shared the 4 large plates below: Jow's sweet & sour lamb ribs Malaysian style butter prawns, curry leaf chilli, lime Lettuce wraps Morcilla, salted fish & sambal fried rice Everything was extremely delicious and flavorful. Very busy, come before you are hungry, put your name down for a table and grab a cocktail. Grumpy maitre'd was offset by great batman upstairs and waiting staff down. They take bookings for Friday and Sunday lunch - out of that time it is a waiting game. For starters we tucked into the best prawn toast I have ever had and Vietnamese steak tartare (which was better than the same dish I had in Vietnam). We shared mains but the sweet and sour lamb ribs and snow crab were the stand outs. We went to this place on a recommendation that the aloe vera cocktails are the most amazing thing ever. And they surely were. I don't think I have ever such had a beautiful cocktail and that's a pretty big call but I'm sticking to it. We arrived at 9:30 on a Saturday night and knew there would be a wait, but were happy to have a drink in the upstairs bar which was perfect. The music was hip hop and had a great vibe to it. After 45 minutes we were seated and cannot believe the taste explosions we had from our meals. We really couldn't fault anything. The corn on the cob was amazing! Although stuffed from our mains, we couldn't skip the stoner's delight for dessert which was melt in your mouth flavours. Next time I'm in Sydney, I'm definitely returning. First of all, thank you to one of the staff (didn't catch your name) for sitting my partner and I on the best table in the venue (as it was my birthday). It really was a great table - away from the rest of the other tables and you get to see the harbour bridge as well! Also loved that they have Biggie's Juicy lyric painted on the wall. Food was amazing (still drooling over cheeseburger spring roll)- you can really see time and effort they've put in to cook each dish. When they say it's an Asian Fusion restaurant, it REALLY IS an asian fusion restaurant - don't expect traditional asian food here even though the menu may seem like it. It's a tongue-in-cheek wordplay on the flavour enhancer notoriously feared in bad Chinese takeaway (note the "six two one" neon sign on one wall inside - a nod to the chemical's numerical label. Yeah, I googled it) but there is absolutely nothing artificial about the fusion food they're serving up. This quirky approach is fed right throughout Ms G's, from the alcoholic bubble tea at the cocktail bar upstairs complete with heat-sealed plastic lids a la Easy Way tea stands to the industrial warehouse-meets-noodle bar interiors featuring long, communal wooden tables and dangling exposed lightbulbs. Dinner items on my first visit there included a salad of grilled calamari scattered with bits of crispy pork belly and dressed with a salty-sweet bacon chilli jam. To follow came the perfectly medium scotch fillet, sliced up and ready to smother with nuoc cham gel or lemongrass and tomato salsa. The snow crab meat with dashi custard and broccoli was delicate, but was lacking in flavour contrast. Still, former Lotus chef Dan Hong has definitely taken modern Asian to the next level at this must-try eatery. read more

Don't let the name of this restaurant fool you. There isn't any MSG in the food at Ms G's. I was here just yesterday for a Melbourne Cup banquet dinner which included multiple courses of pan-Asian origin and some bubbly. While most of the dishes were great, they were all a bit too salty. Lunch started with some corn on the cob and pickled vegetables. The best part of the set menu was the fresh sea scallops with salmon roe and avocado puree, which was fresh. There was also was a Wagyu beef masaman curry. For dessert there was doughnut flavored ice cream (weird, but delicious) with crème caramel and rice crispy square things. Overall, I felt like most of the dishes' flavors were drowned in saltiness, the portions were quite small and the service was slow. I found that the staff was unnecessarily pretentious, too. We sat down at 1PM and didn't start eating until didn't eat until 2:15PM. The atmosphere is really nice, the decoration is fun and the restaurant offers great views of the city. Perhaps their normal menu is better than their Melbourne cup menu. read more

Ms. G's not only fulfilled my hunger with Thai (and other Asian cuisine) Fusion delights which still kept that authentic Thai flavor, but I was also inspired by each dish! We ordered the mini banh mi, the grilled corn on the cob with parmesan and lime, the egg noodles with duck and XO sauce, the 'Buddha's delight' salad, the 'Stoner's delight 2.0' dessert and the pandan chiffon cake. All of it was bland or, in the case of the 'Stoner's delight', way too sweet. The mini banh mi were OK but at $6 a pop we could have gone to a Vietnamese bakery and bought full-sized banh mi that would have tasted just as good. read more

Oh My Gawd! I was recommended this restaurant by a neighborhood local and it did not disappoint at all. The gyoza is delish and the calamari was really good, but whatever you do, do not miss the burrata. I went with a friend and we ordered one serving and licked the bowl clean. Came here last night on my coworkers recommendation. I loved the decor and the waitstaff were very friendly. We had the mini banh mi and the snow crab pappadum for the starters, the chargrilled fish wings and the half fried chicken. It was all very good, although I thought the chicken was a tad over fried, but not enough to deter me from ordering it again. The sauce for the fish wings was great! My girlfriend ordered the pearl diver cocktail which comes the exact same way as a bubble tea complete with the straw and she loved it. I had the white rabbit dark ale and really enjoyed it. This might be one of the craziest restaurants I've ever been to. The menu is an oddball fusion mashup of pan-Asian dishes, with unique Western twists. Best bet is to go with a decent sized group and go for the banquet set menu. This is the easiest way to get the broad spectrum of awesomeness on display at Ms. G's.
