Mistelle is named after the versatile drink, a combination between a spirit and a wine that you can have as an aperitif, chilled on ice or full bodied. The name is fitting as the restaurant is versatile, you can sit at the bar and have a wine and a small bite or dine in and have a meal with accompanying drinks. It is in the Double Bay Kiaora shopping precinct and has been open since Jan this year. It has hit the market as the area has missing this style
of establishment until now. There are tables out the front and resembles the bistro style feel of the restaurants on the streets of Paris. It is suitable for a date or catch up with friends or family. There is an extensive wine list, as well as many spirits and cocktails and the wise staff have excellent knowledge of the drinks, suggesting appropriate selections to your food choices and personal taste. The sign out the front advertises happy hour from 3-6 including $2 oysters or a $12 Aperol spritz amongst other things. I began the evening with a refreshing Aperol spritz and we ordered some tapas whilst we perused the rest of menu. We had the potato croquettes, little fluffy pillows of potato, lightly crumbed, sitting on a flavoursome chorizo paste topped with a tomato and pepper salsa. Staff were very helpful in assisting us with what to order. The menu has small starters, main meals as well as charcuterie, cheese and dessert.
I quite enjoy a good steak tartare and was happy to see this on the menu. We ordered this, it was a generous portion, well seasoned and accompanied with thickly sliced bread, Pepe Le saya butter and some frites. A great start on our food journey for the evening.
For the mains, we ordered the double baked Gruyere soufflé which was nice and fluffy in a rich sand crab and lobster bisque with a touch of caviar on top. We also got the sliced lamb rump which had been souveed and it was perfectly cooked. Sitting on top of a cauliflower purée, served with a Beetroot salad (two types of beetroots, Persian fetta and greens). It was beautifully presented. They asked if we could fit in desert, which of course we could, particularly when we read the description for the tarte tartin. It is made to order, but the wait was not long at all. What came out was a beautifully plating of crusty pastry filled with apples, walnuts and Marshmallow ice cream. Overall a fabulous restaurant, that I would absolutely recommend and be keen to go back to. read more
