In a sea of craziness, Stephanie was the sweet, kind calm calligrapher who gave me exactly what we wanted with her modern and contemporary style. I truly lucked out with this Yelp find. She was amazing. But that wasn't all. She went above and beyond. A couple weeks before our wedding, we lost one of our labradors suddenly. Obviously our labs were important to us and Stephanie knew that since we had about 200 black and chocolate colored mini lab place cards that would be set up with a dog house and other related items. Each of our labs was also going to get their own card and be positioned near the dog house just for fun. Well, Stephanie took it upon herself to create lil gold wings for the lab we lost and did the same for another lab we lost earlier. Both were set up on a mini rainbow bridge. Fab calligraphy aside...she won me over with this act of kindness. xo

We received many compliments from our guests on the beautiful board. Stephanie gave us the option of her buying the board and staining it, but we decided to do it ourselves. We're so glad we had her do our calligraphy...it was a nice touch that helped us immensely.

She responded promptly to my emails and has a detailed website with calligraphy samples, so I felt I had a good idea of what I was getting into. I had our table placecards custom designed- they were ecru matte cardstock with a skyline image of chicago covering the bottom 1/3 of the image. The Sears Tower (where we held our wedding) appeared on the right side of the placecard, extending almost to the top of the placecard. The most important thing that I explained to her is that instead of doing table numbers, we did Chicago neighborhoods, and these neighborhood names were pre-printed on the bottom of each card in the skyline. I gave Katherine a detailed spreadsheet of each guest, their meal choice, and the neighborhood table they were seated at. She called a few days later to tell me the order was complete and we set a time for me to pick them up. When I saw the cards, my heart sank. Although the penmanship was nearly perfect (beautiful!) she wrote the names near the bottom of the card, covering the skyline. Even worse, she had been directed to put a B (for beef), C (for chicken) or V (for veggie) on the card. She put the letter on the top of the Sears Tower, covering about 1/8 of it and making the fact that it was a Sears Tower much harder to distinguish. If I did this again, I would have asked for a sample on our placecard first to be sure she was doing exactly what I expected. I suppose I was wrong to assume that she would write in the cream space above the skyline and put the meal choice in the upper left, leaving the Sears Tower unobstructed. But I had presumed that if your business is artistic like this, you would have the good sense to know where to write the names. Two stars because she is very nice, and has great hand-writing. Three stars taken away for no asthetic sense, which I believe is an important part of her job. If you choose to work with her, get a sample of your specific piece before you commit!

I live 90 minutes away, and this was on my must-do list for my trip to Chicago. I'm so glad that I finally made it here! When I was a child, I was completely obsessed with the scented Sanrio markers. Overtime, I discovered that I enjoyed journaling, and have been very selective regarding pens and paper. Atlas has it all. Maybe not Hello Kitty, grape-scented markers, but literally everything else that a nerdy pen-and-paper-obsessed person could want. I brought my 13 year old, for whom most things are *eyeroll* boring and she didn't want to leave. The washi tape and sticker area had her plotting collages and teen-angst journaling for days. For me, it was the ability to check out the pens. Of course they are known for the fabulous and gorgeous selection of fountain pens and ink. But I haven't gone down that rabbit hole yet. I am talking about the regular pens. Ballpoint, felt tip, colorful, plain, all sizes of points and inks and all wonderfully curated. And you can try them all. And here is the thing: for this level of service and attention you would think it would be too pricey, but it wasn't this is part of the reason I will keep coming back. If you haven't been here, make the journey and keep writing!

This place is large and spacious, and their selection is so great - they have everything from all the different types of pens (fountain pens, ballpoint pens, rollerball pens, calligraphy, and glass dip pens), markers, various types of pencils (mechanical and woodcase), pencil sharpeners, erasers, stamps, stickers, washi tapes, wax seals, inks and refills, notebook covers and accessories, pen storages, notebooks, sketchbooks, and paper/sticky notes! I loved their selection in stationery, washi tapes, and the stickers! There are stations in which you can test out different types of paper and pens to just find that 'perfect' one! There are friendly staff readily available to answer any questions or help you locate any item(s). You can easily spend at least an hour in here!
