The man in charge of untying the boat had not untied yet, but literally looked us right in the eye as we were showing our tickets and began quickly untying the boat. The agent at the top of the stairs just stood there making excuses, "He wants to start his evening off work and he wants to get going". He was untying while she was making excuses. We were so close to the boat. In America, we regularly give these tour guides a tip for great service. I'll give this miserable excuse of a man and his excuse making colleague this tip: Karma is a bitch and the next time you are having an experience where the kindness of the person could help you, I hope you experience a nice payment so maybe you can do better next time. We can just do one little thing and it can make a person's experience or break their experience. As a disabled person who travelled an hour by public transportation with all the delays and stairs and trouble-- we made it on time and you decided to create an additional block that was unnecessary, unkind and will in the end cause you pain. We will dispute the charges for over 100€ with our credit card company and we will make a formal complaint to your company.

So we purchased our tickets and hopped aboard. Much to our delight there was a cafe which also sold wine and beer. So my two friends and I obtained glasses of wine, sat on top deck and enjoyed the tour. It was a really brilliant experience. Moving along at a leisurely pace, we saw all the sites/ architecture and heard the history of the places we passed. One drawback was that it was quite cold to be sitting on an open deck, but this was definitely the best way to see Berlin. Plus, it's so much more fun than a standard bus tour and a glass of wine enhances the experience ;-)

Within hours of my arrival in Berlin, my travel companion deposited me along the River Spree with…read moreinstructions that I should take a boat tour while she did Bikram yoga. I felt not unlike a toddler left at daycare for the first time: where am I? where is she? will I ever see her again? After gaining assurances that the boat returned to the exact spot from which it left and that it did so one hour after departure, I purchased my ticket and went aboard. It was fall and the weather was still nice but starting to grow chilly. I walked to the open air deck at the top, admired the wooden chairs, and plopped down. Quickly, a menu appeared before me. You can get cocktails on this here boat. The boat took off and I was served by a very, very, VERY attentive waiter and I soon discovered why. I was the sole paying passenger aboard this boat. The waiter photo-bombed my selfies, posed for me, took my photo, asked for my Facebook address, inquired if I'd be receptive to a visit from him ... I was observing the bored German waiter phenomenon. A boat ride tour of the River Spree is a nice thing to do. It in no way prepared me to better understand Berlin's layout but that's understandable. The boat had a taped narration, first in German then in English, which I wound up paying no attention to. It seemed so unnecessary and impersonal for only me. Besides, I was busy being distracted by that waiter. It grew cold up top and I retreated below deck. The waiter followed. He took my hand and led me from the seat I'd selected all the way to a separate indoor seating area at the very front of the boat. If you want to sit inside, definitely head here before anyone else finds out about it as it affords a front facing view of everything you'll see. Obviously, advance tickets for such a tour were unnecessary. During more popular travel months, who knows? The tours run hourly and the boat holds many so getting aboard is likely not an issue. There are many such river tours offered by competing businesses. I liked this one for the style of the boat and the cocktails. Several photos posted by others here show boats, but they're not the boat you're on; they appear to be boats people viewed while touring. Before offboarding I learned that this river tour would be closing soon for the winter months. If you want a boat tour to yourself with 1:1 service consider heading here in mid-October.

Every seat has a good view - about 1/4 are under a shade tent and the rest are open air. After sitting, a server comes by asking for orders of beer, wine and soft drinks. Bring cash for this! It was pleasant to sit with a radler watching the city go by. The live narrator speaks in both German and English, and provides witty and informative commentary on what we see on the river as well as the history of Berlin. There's a lot to see and experience and we definitely enjoyed the ride. It was especially great as we took the ride during the Berlin marathon, when it would have been difficult to get to some of the core sights. All in all, a great way to spend an hour!

The tour was just one hour, so it was really a quick 2-time turn around once the tour started. Overall, it gave different angles of how one could see Berlin, but I felt like there could be more information/interesting facts and history (rather than just simply pointing out what each buildings was all about). Overall, a decent way to spend time in a different way, but I wouldn't say it is a must do either. It is best as a supplementary information and probably doing other tours you may get more information you need if you wanted to learn more about Berlin. The other thing was....because of the heat inside/cold outside..the glass windows got so fogged up that one couldn't really see much at all...so perhaps, winter isn't really the best time to do the tour.
