Alex was very nice and professional as well as funny. She speaks English and translated everything perfect. This boat is not open air. The man in charge of untying the boat had not untied yet, but literally looked us right in the eye as we were showing our tickets and began quickly untying the boat. The agent at the top of the stairs just stood there making excuses, "He wants to start his evening off work and he wants to get going". He was untying while she was making excuses. We were so close to the boat. In America, we regularly give these tour guides a tip for great service. I'll give this miserable excuse of a man and his excuse making colleague this tip: Karma is a bitch and the next time you are having an experience where the kindness of the person could help you, I hope you experience a nice payment so maybe you can do better next time. We can just do one little thing and it can make a person's experience or break their experience. As a disabled person who travelled an hour by public transportation with all the delays and stairs and trouble-- we made it on time and you decided to create an additional block that was unnecessary, unkind and will in the end cause you pain. We will dispute the charges for over 100€ with our credit card company and we will make a formal complaint to your company.

So we purchased our tickets and hopped aboard. Much to our delight there was a cafe which also sold wine and beer. So my two friends and I obtained glasses of wine, sat on top deck and enjoyed the tour. It was a really brilliant experience. Moving along at a leisurely pace, we saw all the sites/ architecture and heard the history of the places we passed. One drawback was that it was quite cold to be sitting on an open deck, but this was definitely the best way to see Berlin. Plus, it's so much more fun than a standard bus tour and a glass of wine enhances the experience ;-)

The food on board was decent, but eating before might be better and grab a beer ok board. Even though they deal with a lot of tourists, they don't really seem to cater to any other than German tourists. The boat crew seems to think they're doing you a huge favor to let you aboard. I'd do a different line and there's many out there on the river. If you do go, use the Berlin Welcome pass and red book to get a discount on the fare. The river itself is interesting if you can find someone who has the ability to tell you about it.
