If you're from the United States and you're catching an Uber, be prepared to move fast to get your Uber. Don't order an Uber assuming there will be a typical delay of two or three minutes like in the United States. We had to pay our Uber driver a small waiting fee because of the time it took us to get from the door of the train station to the Uber.

Meaning, there are a lot of businesses that line the walls of this station. This is a multi-level train station. They have escalators and elevators to take you to the various levels. So, getting around is not too difficult. As this is the main station of Berlin, as can be expected, you may encounter a lot of people here. The moment you begin to walk towards the station you can expect to encounter a lot of people puling their suitcases and carrying their bags. Plus, a lot of people running late, jamming their way through the crowds. My suggestion is to plan to get there a little early if you have a train to catch. As mentioned, there is also a lot of businesses that line the walls of this station. These are mostly food stands and convenience markets, but there is a few other places where you can grab some clothing and stuff the like. More than just a train station, Berlin Hauptbahnhof is a gathering spot. They have a music venue and a outdoor food stand area on the back side of this station, over by the river. So, this is not only a place to grab that train, to get whereever it is you are going to, but a place to sit back and enjoy the Berlin Outdoor life, as well.

Mosaic is rather new to the tour game, so our group was small (9 people) allowing for an intimate and interactive tour. Judging by other tours at Sachsenhausen, the average group size is around 30-40 making it tough for hearing and questioning. I learned more than I can ever hope to remember and felt that all the information was given with no political bias (important!). We covered the entire Memorial and were given plenty of bio-breaks and opportunities for photos. If you are going to do a non-self-guided tour of Sachsenhausen, go with Mosaic for a wealth of information and also a good feeling about where your money is going.

Going into this experience, we knew it was going to be a very reflective day, and frankly, wasn't part of our trip that we were really excited for, but it was well worth the journey. We chose Mosaic because they were non-profit. Without the option, I probably wouldn't even have thought of it, but it does feel better to pay for a tour knowing that the money is going to charity. We were in a group of 15 which was a good size for this trip. We made the trip to Oranienburg via public transportation (note that isn't covered by your booking fee for the tour) in just about an hour and then we had a 20 minute or so walk to the camp through the town. Our tour guide, Joanna, was great. She is full of information, clearly has a great depth of knowledge about this site and its role in history, and also was very adept at presenting such a sensitive subject in a meaningful way. The camp itself is larger than I expected, be ready to walk. We got a very good feel for the magnitude of history that occurred at the site. The tour focused on the use of the camp by the Nazis and not the use by the Soviets, as that would have been too much to cover in the time we had. Definitely heed the advice to bring water and a snack.

I felt not unlike a toddler left at daycare for the first time: where am I? where is she? will I ever see her again? After gaining assurances that the boat returned to the exact spot from which it left and that it did so one hour after departure, I purchased my ticket and went aboard. It was fall and the weather was still nice but starting to grow chilly. I walked to the open air deck at the top, admired the wooden chairs, and plopped down. Quickly, a menu appeared before me. You can get cocktails on this here boat. The boat took off and I was served by a very, very, VERY attentive waiter and I soon discovered why. I was the sole paying passenger aboard this boat. The waiter photo-bombed my selfies, posed for me, took my photo, asked for my Facebook address, inquired if I'd be receptive to a visit from him ... I was observing the bored German waiter phenomenon. A boat ride tour of the River Spree is a nice thing to do. It in no way prepared me to better understand Berlin's layout but that's understandable. The boat had a taped narration, first in German then in English, which I wound up paying no attention to. It seemed so unnecessary and impersonal for only me. Besides, I was busy being distracted by that waiter. It grew cold up top and I retreated below deck. The waiter followed. He took my hand and led me from the seat I'd selected all the way to a separate indoor seating area at the very front of the boat. If you want to sit inside, definitely head here before anyone else finds out about it as it affords a front facing view of everything you'll see. Obviously, advance tickets for such a tour were unnecessary. During more popular travel months, who knows? The tours run hourly and the boat holds many so getting aboard is likely not an issue. There are many such river tours offered by competing businesses. I liked this one for the style of the boat and the cocktails. Several photos posted by others here show boats, but they're not the boat you're on; they appear to be boats people viewed while touring. Before offboarding I learned that this river tour would be closing soon for the winter months. If you want a boat tour to yourself with 1:1 service consider heading here in mid-October.

I paid 10€ per day for two days, but this included both a delivery and pickup from my hotel. My hotel called them around 4pm to order a bike and it arrived shortly after 6pm. The bike included a headlight and tail light (both powered by a generator), as well as a bike lock. The bike was in good condition and appeared to have been well maintained. I left the bike with the hotel at checkout and went about my way. The delivery person spoke decent English. I will use them again if I'm in the area.

After awhile knowing to check screens and updated paper timetables it was helpful. You may have a train somewhere, but the screen may have a different destination for your location. That can be confusing. This train station offers many amenities and options for dining before or after your arrival. Bathrooms you do have to pay for. That is always a treat with kids. Overall, a good train station option that just needs a little time if you are new to figure it out.
