TO: Yelp Trust & Safety Department
Dear Yelp Trust & Safety Team,
I am the owner of MRT Services Boise, an established Idaho repair and maintenance business.
I am submitting this consolidated formal complaint requesting an escalated investigation into multiple negative reviews published against my business under the accounts "Virgil A." and "b a."
This is not simply a disagreement between a dissatisfied customer and a business owner. I believe these reviews represent a pattern of retaliatory conduct arising from a single disputed $900 invoice, involving multiple online accounts, conflicting financial allegations, unrelated personal attacks, and potentially misleading representations of judicial proceedings.
I am requesting that Yelp independently evaluate the authenticity of these accounts, the claimed firsthand customer experiences, and the reviews' compliance with Yelp's published Content Guidelines.
1. The Original Transaction Was a $900 Drywall and Ceiling Repair
In July 2023, MRT Services Boise performed drywall and finishing work for Virgil Adams.
The work included ceiling drywall repair, taping, finishing, texturing, and crown molding work.
This was not merely a small hole patched with drywall compound. It involved multiple repair and finishing operations.
The completed work was documented in my original invoice:
Invoice #000211, dated July 7, 2023, totaling $900.00.
Mr. Adams subsequently disputed the amount charged, maintaining that the work should have cost approximately $200 based on an opinion he reportedly obtained from another individual.
To my knowledge, Mr. Adams did not initially complain that the work was defective, improperly performed, or required correction.
The original disagreement concerned the amount charged for the work.
Mr. Adams did not pay the $900 invoice, according to my business records.
I strongly dispute the subsequent allegations that I attempted to steal money, fraudulently increase charges, or improperly bill for work.
2. The Negative Reviews Began After Legal Proceedings Were Initiated
An especially important aspect of this complaint is the timing of the negative reviews.
After Mr. Adams refused to pay the invoice, I pursued the matter through small claims court.
According to my records and recollection, the campaign of negative online reviews began after Mr. Adams received notice of the small claims proceedings.
Before that litigation, the dispute concerned payment for completed work.
After legal action commenced, negative statements began appearing on Yelp and Google, including allegations about my honesty, business practices, personal character, and political associations.
3. Suspected Use of Multiple Accounts to Review the Same Transaction
One of my principal concerns involves the Yelp account identified as "b a."
I do not recognize this account as a customer of MRT Services Boise.
I have no business records identifying "b a." as a separate customer who contracted with me for the drywall project described in these reviews.
Rather, I am asking Yelp to investigate information available to the platform that could help determine whether these reviews represent genuine, independent consumer experiences.
If both accounts are controlled by the same individual, or if one account is falsely claiming firsthand participation in a transaction, I believe that would raise serious concerns under Yelp's authenticity and conflict-of-interest standards.
4. Repeated Negative Reviews Concerning One Disputed Job
The "b a." account has published negative reviews dated:
These reviews appear to concern the same original drywall transaction and related litigation.
A separate review under "Virgil A." also addresses that transaction.
I request that Yelp determine whether these publications represent independent experiences or repeated attempts to publicize the same allegations through different accounts.
A single disputed service transaction should not be misrepresented as multiple independent customer experiences.
5. Materially Conflicting Financial Allegations
The reviews contain substantially different descriptions of the original charges and alleged payments.
These descriptions are inconsistent with one another and with my original $900 invoice.
I dispute the reviewers' descriptions of the transaction and the alleged payments.
6. Serious and Disputed Accusations of Theft and Fraud
The reviews contain accusations that I am a thief, dishonest, or attempting to defraud customers.
I categorically dispute those allegations.
The original disagreement concerned the price of completed drywall and finishing work.
The subsequent small claims litigation did not result in a judicial finding that I committed theft or fraud.
The reviews nevertheless present serious accusations that could lead prospective customers to believe that criminal or fraudulent conduct was established. read more
