I appreciate that roadside assistance is difficult and that drivers want to be safe. However, on…read moreI-565 near Huntsville, I observed one United Towing truck loaded with a disabled vehicle well off the shoulder with lights on, but a second United Towing truck was parked with the rear end extending into a live traffic lane during peak traffic. Under Alabama traffic laws (AL Code §§ 32-5A-136 & 32-5A-137), vehicles stopped on highways should be positioned off the traveled portion of the roadway so there is an unobstructed width for traffic to pass safely. Because the second truck encroached into the lane, it forced vehicles into other lanes and caused drivers to brake abruptly, creating a dangerous situation for motorists. This wasn't just inconvenient--it was unsafe. I support tow operators and the services they provide, but proper placement and awareness are critical for safety. I hope United Towing reviews this incident with their team and emphasizes positioning vehicles completely off the roadway when possible. Forcing drivers to change lanes abruptly, rather than having the option to slow down, almost caused a five car pile up with me right in the middle of it. Do I support saftey of tow truck drivers? Yes. At the extent of violating the law and placing others in danger? No. The tow truck obstructing the lane was unnecessary in this particular case and was very unsafe. Please explain to your drivers that not all situations require a lane to be obstructed for the safety of your drivers, especially when it places others in harms way. Thank you. Reference: Alabama's "Move Over Act" (Section 32-5A-58.2) requires drivers to vacate the lane closest to vehicles stopped on the shoulder displaying lights (including wreckers/tow trucks) or slow down if changing lanes isn't safe. Under Alabama Code § 32-5A-136 and § 32-5A-137, a vehicle may not be stopped, standing, or parked on the traveled portion of a highway when it's practicable to stop off the roadway, and when stopped there an unobstructed width of the roadway must be left for free passage of other vehicles with clear visibility.

***PLEASE READ YOU'VE BEEN WARNED*** Just need everyone to…read moreknow that this company patrols Walmart parking lots at night towing cars without any notice or having been called to do so. Car was towed at 11:25pm after my husband and I left it just a few hours before because we had borrowed a truck to move a piece of furniture only to come back and it was gone. One Walmart manager said they never call to have people towed and certainly not for that short of time. Another manager said, they have a "deal" with Mayhall and "let" them patrol and tow who they want as long as it's not the Walmart employees. This is some insane sketchy BS money making scheme these guys are getting away with and no one seems to care. When we called the police in the Walmart parking lot thinking our car was stolen they had it in the system that it had in fact been towed and gave us the number and address for the place. That was at 5:00pm and when we called Mayhall at that time they said we couldn't get the car until 8:00am the next morning. When we got there they demanded us give them $305 in cash.....we asked to put eyes on the car to make sure our car was actually there because they right off the bat were treating us with the worst attitude and we were raising an eyebrow to why anyone in 2022 is having a cash only business for hundreds of dollars. They REFUSED to let us see our car without handing them cash to then let us know well not only do you need to find an ATM to get cash and bring it back to us but the car isn't even this lot...it's miles away. They want you to then follow them so they can lead you to where it is all the way off Winchester Road. There was yelling and we had to call the cops on them first thing in the morning even tho that was truly no help either. Cops just told us to pay the money and get on with the day. THE most unprofessional so called business I've ever seen and I cannot fathom how they have stayed in business this long. Heads up, and at least you can say you were warned when it happens to you. Good luck.

I've been a loyal customer of Pep Boys for years, but after my last experience, I'll never set foot…read morein any of their shops again. My car began to malfunction, and trusting them, I brought it in. Before I even reached the counter, I overheard someone from the garage scream, "Here comes an opportunity." Red Flag. Once the diagnostic was done, I was told repairs would cost upwards of $10,000. I'm no mechanic, but I know manipulation when I see it. I asked for a print off of the required repairs and was told that "they don't do that". Feeling uneasy, I sought a second opinion. In the end, the repairs cost me $200. All I needed was a couple of hoses, and some spark plugs. It was crystal clear that Pep Boys was trying to take advantage of me. What's worse, I overheard a manager berating an employee for not "getting more" out of a customer. They didn't think I heard, but I did. On top of that, I was told by someone else that while they visited the shop they overheard a district manager discussing with their team how desperately they need to repair their customer relationships because so many people are coming forward about being swindled too. I'm sharing this to warn anyone considering Pep Boys, do not trust them. There are honest auto repair professionals out there. The people at Pep Boys, however are nothing but crooks. They do brakes and oil changes. That's it. They aren't mechanics. I learned from a former employee of theirs that the reason they charge so much for repairs that because they outsource the work to actual mechanics, then overcharge so they can get their profit. Let my experience be your cautionary tale. Don't trust them.

As I walked to the front of my car, I got down on one knee to ensure they had replaced all of my trim clips on my splash guard.( I did this because in time past they were not all replaced) As I bent over, I noticed oil pouring out from around my splash guard. I jumped up and ran to cut the car off. One of the techs looked over and asked, whats wrong? I told him my car is pouring oil out. Andrew was inside the building looking out, so I went in and explained to him what the problem was. At this time one of the techs got in the car and was going to start it to take it back in the shop, and the other tech yells at him. "Dont start that car up". Andrew went outside and had a dicussion with them and they pushed in back into the shop. Later he, andrew, came to me very apologetic and professional saying the oil filter was not tighten properly. I was frustrated, and dissapointed in what had just happened. I simply said, this could've been very bad if I had not looked under my car and drove off. He agreed and still apologetic. I told him its not your fault and I know you want things here done right. I hope this will serve to them as a learning tool to pay attention to detail. I will continue to take my car there because I trust them, however, I will contine to be very observant of what they are doing and check to see that job is done correctly. In all honesty, I should'nt have to.
