My go to Chinese food spot for when I don't feel like cooking. I'm pretty boring sometimes so I just go with the chicken and fries or the boneless spare ribs with rice. They make a really good egg roll too never too greasy. I'm addicted to their hot sauce so im always putting tons of it on my wings. Service is an A+. I remember ordering from here once and they automatically came back to deliver the correct item free of charge. They really go above and beyond at this location. It's just a basic mom and pop spot that I've been going to for years. I'm shocked it took me this long to write a review on them. I recommend their lo-mein too, always get house because it's a mixture of everything. Whenever I get seafood I dine in, I prefer seafood fresh. It's never too loud in this location. I should have walked right back out with the blank stare I was given when I arrived, but my hankering for a shrimp roll was so intense, I stayed. There was another customer dining in the small seating area with a small girl and was given the same cardboard attitude. Ok. I'm still going to try. I made sure the rolls were standard, shrimp in a shrimp roll and veggies in a spring roll. Confirmed. I ordered one of each. 5 minutes or so I'm motioned up for my rolls and asked my sauce preference. They will get 1 star for that and that alone. The rolls were overcooked and under filled. Who skimps on veggies in a roll? The was actually hollow space in there! Shrimp roll had, 1, 2 shrimp. That was it... sparse cabbage and 2 shrimp! Spring roll was all wrap burnt on the outside, mushy inside with a few strands of cabbage and raw carrots. The other star is simply for the pleasant smell. Maybe the other food is tasty, but I will never know. Shoulda woulda coulda went to Wendy's or White Castle and spent the $2.60 on some tasty junk food. read more

I am talking like stomach issues kind of disappointing. I am just looking for decent food here! So not many options in the area... Decent spot tried their "famous" moo shu pork and it was ok. The tortillas it came with were really low quality and completley disintegrated the moment you picked them up, and they give you barely any hoisin sauce (the best part of a moo shu). Flavor was pretty good though. read more

This is definitely my favorite Chinese spot in the area. I order from here an insane amount with a lot of substitutions. I am vegan and so I explain in each order to refrain from adding eggs or butter + other things I simply don't like , like onions and bean sprouts. Mr. Wonton without hesitation always complied fully to my picky orders and food always arrives in a graceful time period. The only time my order was delayed was yesterday, when I called to express my concern the lady who answered the phone was exceptionally kind and explained that the cook had added eggs and she knew from my reoccurring orders that I am vegan and so they had re-made it. That little detail meant a lot considering many times take out places will disregard so many special orders. The only slight con is that they don't carry miso soup! Ordered from Mr. Wonton last year (totally forgot to write the review, but I just ran across this again randomly). Needless to say, it is the single worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. I'll make it short and sweet: the next 24 hours after eating were the worst I've ever had. I would like to read an article about these corner Chinese places. I mean, do they all buy from the same distributer and therefore always have the same menus? Do they all get their photos from the same place? That said, despite the similarities in menus, I find local Chinese hole-in-the-walls do have differences as far as quality is concerned. There used to be a great one down the street from me in Sunnyside that had food that was surprisingly excellent. Mr. Wonton doesn't quite reach that level of surprise, but I was quite happy with my ginger chicken. It was quite a nice helping and satisfying at that. Unlike some corner Chinese, this place does have spring rolls, which is another plus. The people behind the counter were very friendly as well. As more Asian hole-in-the-walls become pan Asian or Thai, Mr. Wonton may be the best solely Chinese restaurant/take out in Sunnyside. The food won't wow you, but you will get exactly what you expect of your favorite Chinese-American dish. read more

This review is, most of all, a reminder for me not to order from this place again, especially given the various choices for "just OK" Chinese food in the area. The juicy little buns were delicious, but the rest of the food, vegetable fried rice and sweet and sour chicken, were pretty average. I hate shredded lettuce in my fried rice. Ruins the taste. The sauce for the chicken did not have any pineapple or peppers, things you may find in other sweet and sour sauces, and therefore, no real flavor except artificial. It is also hot pink, and while I love the color, eh, not as a sauce, please. I didn't even get halfway through this meal before I just threw it away. The stand-bys, wonton soup and cold sesame noodles, were also good, not excellent, so Mr. Wonton does get two stars. The meal works out to be below average. Delivery is fast, though. This is one of the best Chinese take-out places in Sunnyside. Their menu isn't anything extraordinary but what I love about them is their service. They're always very nice and polite. Their service is quick, 25 minutes at most for delivery and pick up with 10 minutes. It's wicked cheap, and so good for what you pay. I love their lo mein and fried rice. Its always packed with meat and not too many veggies because I can't stand vegetables in Chinese food, sue me. I love their Cold Spicy Shredded pork noodles, it's the greatest. I had such high hopes for Mr. Wonton as I hung up the phone with the lovely lady who took my order. I can honestly say, one of the best chinese food ordering experiences of my life! The prices were reasonable and the deliver was timely. My expectations were high as I laid my chinese feast out in front of me. They even threw a soda in for free...nice touch! I loaded my plate with chicken with broccoli, bbq sparerib, egg roll, pork fried rice. A healthy plate, I know. I started with a forkfull of the pork fried rice. It was good, standard, but yummy enough. Then i tasted the chicken w/ broccoli. The sauce had a taste to it that I didn't like. I can't put my finger on it, but it wasn't a fresh taste to me. The meat was sparce on the sparerib, and when it adjusted to room temperature it too took on a funnier taste. I'm a life-long NYC-er, and I can say wholeheartedly that this is a superior Chinese takeout spot. My Queens-bred Chinese-American wife agrees. I know it's just a takeout joint. So, I don't know how exactly to describe its superiority - it's just better than most. And I promise, we've tried tons. Their Mai Fun, moo shu, and steamed dishes are a cut above the competition. We luckily have prescription medications and inhalers, so we did not have to rush him to the hospital. BUT REALLY? READ YOUR DIRECTIONS! I kid you not, the only Chinese food I had in Sunnyside is my OWN Chinese cooking. I just cannot, order from them. They all look just look so scary. But a couple of weeks ago, I gave up because I really wanted something Chinese that evening... I got the Singaporean fried rice noodles (which is a comfort food item for me) and it was not bad! I'd probably get it again at some point in the distant future. The other stuff I got? One word for you - RED. There's not many places to order Chinese food in Sunnyside. This place makes some pretty decent Americanized Chinese food, and they are really nice. I tend to order just ONE dish: the Hunan beef. Standard decent Chinese delivery. Better than the bodega Chinese places, not overly greasy. The menu has something like 200 (or more) things on it and includes a few things I don't always see on NYC Chinese delivery menus, like a list of various noodle soups in addition to their regular soups. Prices are really cheap, and I like that you can get most things in pint or quart sizes. Fast delivery. Nothing special, but not bad. read more
