My Dyson was jammed and could not be opened to empty or used. I brought it in to Center St location to leave for repair. Not only did it get taken care of immediately when i asked how much I owed he said nothing!!! Talk about customer service!!!. My Dyson vacuum cleaner had put up with two big dogs for year and was in dire need of some TLC. After changing the filters, there was no more doggie smell! If you purchase a vacuum cleanrs somewhere else you are absolutely crazy! These folks are knowlegable and the prices are lower than the big box stores. (I discovered that they would have charged me more for the same model.) Anyhow, a year ago I brought my old vacuum in for repairs. They advised that, as it was so old I'd be better off getting a new one. Man, they were right! . Surprising enough they did not try to sell me a top-of-the-line vacuum cleaner. They gave me several options as to what to purchase without applying any pressure whatsoever.. These folks are experts in the field. Also, they gave me a completely unexpected big discount as they wanted my old one for parts. They also gave me several discount coupons to replace the disposable bags. (These aren't cheap and would have cost me 35% more on Amazon, without the coupons!, ). Getting in the Sebo Airbelt K was perfect for my needs. It's amazing how much more dirt it picks up as opposed to my old one.. It's absolutely terrific. While in the store I went online to reseach the different models they sold on Consumer Resports. ALL of the manufactures sold here received exceptional reviews. Finally, do NOT spend the $ on a high priced Dyson. Yes, they look cool, but mine died after one year.. brought my 2 miele's in...one was 20 years old...they said the old one was beyond repair and they could keep it for me- I refused & said my nephew liked to tinker. Lo and behold, they fixed both. i used both for 2 weeks (which means I used them 1 time) and the on/off (cord) didn't work on both...I think I paid 350ish for both "repairs." It took over a month to do the "work". Will not go back. Bought a dyson. read more

Came in with what we thought was a broken vacuum. Scott quickly assessed my vacuum and discovered a clog and two dirty filters. He cleaned it and replaced the filters in under 10 minutes! My father dropped off his vacuum cleaner at Mr Sweeper to be fixed. He received a message that it was ready but when he went to pick it up they demanded three times more than what they quoted. He was disappointed but didn't want a problem so just paid. When he got home the vacuum cleaner didn't work. He called to ask about bringing it back and they refused to try and fix it again and told him that it was not their problem. He was so frustrated that he ended up having to take it somewhere else and pay again to have it fixed. My family feels that they took advantage of him because of his age, which is basically elder abuse. I strongly suspect that they never even tried to fix it and overcharged him so that he would go away. They are a terrible business and I wanted to warn others, especially older folks who would never fight back. read more

i read the reviews and the ones with one star described my problems. i brought my bissell vacuum in and told them it needed to be fixed and i didn't care what it cost. when i went in again the person said they were waiting for parts. but when i finally saw them, yesterday they said it needed a good cleaning not parts. a few weeks later i hadn't heard from them and dropped by and they were closed. i went earlier this week and it said 'closed ' at 3pm. another time it wasn't open at 1pm. if they went to lunch they should have the sign everyone uses for lunch. yesterday i finally went to an open store and it took them over 15 min to find my vacuum. and it was in the basement. is that where all vacuums go to die? the man said it hadn't been fixed and i had a fit and said 'what the f--- is going on? you've had my vacuum for 3 weeks.the man told me 'dont talk like that' he told me he had called and because i hadn't called back they didn't repair it. i had authorized service, no matter the cost, so what was he talking about. he then told me the repair would be $60 and it needed to be cleaned out. he tried to sell me a new one but it had a bag which i didn't want. it was $100. told me he was just trying to save me money. how does the math work out? $60 to repair or he'd save me money if i bought a $100 vacuum i asked him when he could repair it and was told 'some time next week. a month since i had brought it in. i said okay repair it and he said 'no i wont repair it' and i walked out with my vacuum. he was obnoxious, rude, obviously misinformed as well as not too good with math, and they seem to close whenever they want to regardless of saying they're open until 5pm. read more

On August 14, 2014 we ordered a Miele vacuum cleaner from Crate and Barrel. We ordered the Miele Kona S 8390, which is notoriously made in black only. Crate and Barrel shipped instead a Miele Complete C3 Kona Canister Vacuum Cleaner , marine blue, with the SEB 228 electrobrush which was later on replaced by an upgraded verasion, the SEB 236. At that time, we had no idea about the substitution. Fast forward to December 15, 2023. I took my blue Miele for service to Mr. Sweeper Sew & Vac in West Roxbury. One month later, I went to pick it up. Surprise! I was presented with a black, worn out, scratched and faded black Miele vacuum cleaner. The man who runs the store insisted that it is mine. The fact that even the claim ticket says "blue Miele" is totally irrelevant to them. The black junkie one has been pushed on me ever since. The arrogance, the flippancy, the total lack of courtesy that I had to put up with while trying to recuperate my vacuum cleaner is mind boggling. I contacted the main company, Mr. Sweeper in Waltham, MA, but it made no difference. The man in charge there, who apparently has some clout over the West Roxbury spin off, insisted that I never dropped off a blue vacuum cleaner and the black one is mine. To this day, they stick to their version of the truth and shamelessly insist that I owned a black vacuum cleaner for almost 9 years. Please, everybody out there, if you ever drop off anything at this store, take tons of pictures, grab witnesses and be prepared for anything that might happen along the way. read more

So I went in to have my 5 year old Miele vacuum cleaned out as I had just vacuumed up dog urine soaked baking soda (oops:). The motor works fine, and I had brought it there once before to get it cleaned out by one of the guys (not the one this review is based on), who was gracious and courteous and got the job done. This guy, however, who I'm sure is the same guy all the negative reviews are about, is HORRENDOUS! We were in the the process of filling out the 5 year maintenance ticket recommended for about $80. He had already checked the motor and the filter pads, and agreed to do the work. THEN, he says "I don't like the smell of it and it might leave my machines with the odor" I actually understood that and decided to just take care of it myself, which I have since done and should've don't in the first place- it runs and smells beautifully! What annoyed the heck out of me was that on the way out, after denying even trying to clean my vacuum, or giving me any recommendations as to where I could go, HE TRIED TO SELL ME MY SAME EXACT VACUUM FOR $600!!. So , he won't clean my working vacuum, but he'll sell me the same exact one?!?!!! One positive note, the guys saved me $80 BUCKS:) read more

Mike is terrific and I actually enjoyed dropping a lot of $ on a fancy new vacuum (my Dyson lasted an incredible 11 years). I knew I wanted a Miele C3 when I went in, but Mike helped me pick out the model with the longest warranty and listened to my flooring and vacuuming needs and suggested and attachment that I LOVE (the one with the light and the auto shut off if you suck something up that you shouldn't). It was more $ but also so worth it since I managed to avoid vacuuming two toys and didn't have a horrific smell/destroyed rug when I accidentally ran over the rug fringe the wrong way - vacuum immediately shut off! The store has various rugs taped down so you can check out how the vacuums work and Mike explained every single thing about it so I just went home and got cleaning (so satisfying). He was so pleasant and professional over the phone and said he would be happy to help. I went right down and was thrilled that Derek quickly got it working again. While waiting, I found a couple of attachments that would be helpful to have and Derek found me models so I could get the best price - not the most expensive price. He was working with me while handling the phone and accommodating another customer . . . keeping all of us happy. He clearly cares about his customers and this business. Took a Dyson in that had lost it's suction a couple of weeks ago. The owner (at least I assume that's who we dealt with) was very friendly. I thought we would have to leave the vacuum and pay a $90 diagnosis fee like I have seen with other vacuum repair shops, but the vacuum was immediately taken out back, and then returned to us with 5 minutes. He said it had a clog in the hose and he cleared it - NO CHARGE! We had also asked him what it would take to fix the brush bar. He totally helped us out by pointing us to Dyson since the vac was under warranty. He said to call their 800 number report that he had seen the vac and that it needs a brush bar and for them to fax the work order to him. Sounds easy enough....and FREE. We will definitely be calling in that work order with Dyson and ensuring that Mr. Sweeper gets the business. What a surprisingly pleasant experience. read more

Took our bag-less Dyson canister in to troubleshoot an floor attachment power problem. We were told pretty fast and at no charge it's not worth repairing and to buy a new vacuum. We were then directed to the large selection of vacuums for sale at the store. I declined to buy a new vacuum and I was determined to fix the power issue myself. I should of done this first. (MY BAD) I called Dyson and they recommended taking apart the floor attachment (two big simple screws) and cleaning out the rollers of junk, string, and dog hair. I did what Dyson suggested and put it back together (took under 10 minutes) and the vacuum now works fine. Dyson's toll-free number is awesome.. they pick up right away and will troubleshoot problems with you on the phone. This appears to be a case where Mr. Sweeper Sales & Repair was more interested in the Sales than the Repair. Boooo! read more

Went there for a small replacement item and left with a "doctorate" in vacuums. Embarrassingly, it was very interesting to "earn" and i asked lots of questions along the way. yay domestication. (i held off for a long time on domestication). PS. They have replacement parts for everything but to save yourself the time, figure out the model number of the part you need and call to see if they have it before going there. Very happy to share my experience with a sewing machine repair at Mr. Sweeper in West Roxbury. Brought my Brother machine in after attempting to troubleshoot a problem myself; Mike checked it out and had it back to me in a couple of days. Stopped in here the other day with my Bissell vacuum. Called a few times to see if I needed a specific appointment, no answer. Was referred here by Bissell, work at a local WR business and am a WR resident. Spoke with whomever was working and discussed my problem his response was "well what am I supposed to do?" I told him my problem again and urged him to look at my vacuum. He looked, turned it on, saw what I was speaking about and asked what me what I would like him to do? I politely asked if he could fix it and he told me he didn't have the patience for Bissell and he recommended I return it. I told him it was 2 months old and I no longer had the receipt to which he replied "well you'll keep it next time won't you?" I politely asked for something I writing to show I had gone through the steps. Never have I been disrespected by a local WR business like this. Would never recommend to local businesses, customers or friends. EDIT: to respond to the review by below. I never ONCE demanded a new vacuum, in fact I asked if they could fix it. And how would the below responder know--he wasn't there. The response I got was the above. I never have treated anyone like that. I have an older Electrolux vacuum that was misbehaving. I brought it to Mr. Sweeper and, even though they don't carry or repair Electrolux, the man behind the counter took the time to help me troubleshoot the problem. He diagnosed it accurately and I was able to take it home, find the problem and fix it. He even gave me the name of a different business that deals with Electrolux, but luckily, I didn't need it. I think the negative review here must have been left by someone who was upset about something else and took it out on Mr. Sweeper. Do NOT, if you value your home and your sanity, frequent this horrible establishment. My mother bought a vacuum there in what turned out to be the last year of her life. It was an Oreck, and a floor model. The model broke several times over the course of the year. It failed, finally, in late December, and I took it for repair on Jan. 2, 2015. The salesman figured out the issue in under one minute and fixed it right on the spot. He gave me some tips regarding maintenance and charged me $13. I took my Kenmore vac in for repairs. Mr. Sweeper identified the problem and said they'd order the part from Sears. Fast forward a month and they're still "waiting" for the part. After repeated calls, I told them I wanted to get the vac back and that I'd take it to Sears. They said there'd be no charge. No charge??? They didn't do anything! I had a problem with a vacuum that I had recently purchased at a big box store. I knew that bringing it to them would be an exercise in futility so I took it to Mr. Sweeper. The fellow who runs the shop explained that there was nothing wrong with the machine, but that one of the mechanisms was not properly positioned. He took the time to demonstrate what the machine should look like for my type of carpet, and how in fact, it was cleaning as it should. I really appreciated the time and explanation. Excellent service. I have an old Miele vacuum that needed a new switch and belt. I had expected to have to order the switch, be without the vacuum for a week or two and pay big bucks. I have had a number of old Electrolux and Miele vacuums restored here. My vacuums have lasted for over 30 years, thanks to Mr. Sweeper. Also, I just bought a new vacuum from Mr. Sweeper. Not only did Mike put my vacuum together for me, but he listened to the needs I had and helped me choose the right attachments. One long, bendable attachment for the Miele goes all the way under my sofas, my oven, and refrigerator. I even have a new attachment to clean out the fan of my 20 year old plus Sub Zero that will not damage the tiny metal pins of the filter. I often have two dogs and one cat, all shedders. I need a substantial vacuum that is no longer heavy to lift. I swear by Mr. Sweeper for all you vacuum and sewing needs. (I used to sew a lot of my own clothes. My Eurika suddenly had a problem with suctioning. The day before I had had a bad experience at another vac repair place in Brighton. My experience at Mr/ Sweeps was excellent. I spoke on the phone before going in w/Richard. He also helped me when I came to the store. He immediately identified the simple problem and it was fixed in less than 5 minutes. I was in the market for a good vacuum, having bought several cheap models that died within a year. Mike was super nice, he walked me through the different models and helped me pick a good quality Miele vac that would work for my house at a great price (lower than I'd seen online.) Spent hours trying to solve issue short of travelling to distant Sears Store. Finally tried Mr. Sweeper in W. Roxbury - first by phone. Gentleman listened and gave suggestion. I got a good price, was able to recycle my old vacuum cleaner, and when I got home was able to put together the new Miele in about 5 minutes. I took my vacuum in for repairs. Based on other comments, I had a bit of a walk, but it was worth it. I found the staff very friendly and helpful. Not only that, I walked out a few minutes later with a repaired vacuum and advice on how to avoid the problem in the future and I didn't break the bank (often the case at other repair stores). While I was waiting, I was happy to find some great supplies for my stone floor and great thread (hard to find these days). As someone else said, the store is a throwback to a bygone era with the know-how of today. I will definitely recommend to others. read more

I brought my vacuum cleaner to be repaired today. The retractable cord was stuck. A very nice young man brought it in the back to take a look at it. He returned in less than 5 min. And had fixed the problem. He told us a better way to hold the cord so it wouldn't happen again. He could have kept it, then charged us for a repair. We wouldn't have known . I really appreciated his help and advice. But I especially appreciated his honesty. Something you don't see often often enough. As a result, I would highly recommend this company. read more
