While I was vacation in Winnipeg, I got a nice inbox message from Mr Sub. I got a free small classics sub as part of my birthday perk. Nice! Winnipeg has one Mr Sub location in a mall. I never got there, so I ended up placing an order online at this Mr Sub in Vaughan and picking up my order when I returned from vacation. I got these items: - Small assorted sub - Queso and bacon tots - Bottled Diet Pepsi The advantage ordering online is that you can customize your sub toppings without the pressure trying to decide when you are in the store. It's nice. I customized my assorted sub with white sub cheese, lettuce, cucumber, tomato. and Mr Sub '68 sub sauce. I got it on mozza-cheddar bread. The sub was my birthday perk. I made it a combo, which seemed to be just as much as the sub's regular price! I got queso and bacon tots as my side. Tots were new on the menu. I also got a bottled Diet Pepsi. I paid online. I got an estimated time to pick up my order. I actually got there a few minutes later. Traffic in the greater Toronto area sucks. This Mr Sub is in a quiet business area. This eatery stands out like a sore thumb, but is strategically placed for those who are at work nearby to drop by for food. There were lots of parking spots on a Saturday afternoon. I backed into a spot for customers under a tree for shade and walked in. There were a few customers dining in. I approached the counter and had the nicest woman interact with me. I let her know that I was picking up an order. She found my order with my name on it and handed it over to me. She wished me a good day. I reciprocated and headed to my car. The bacon and tater tots smelled so good. I ate them before I drove off. The bacon was pre-cooked. I also felt that the tater tots were, too. It was basically queso, bacon, and tater tots heated up in an oven. They were tasty, but the tots and bacon were not crispy. I loved my assorted sub. It's still my favourite sub. It's also the first one that I ever had at Mr Sub. I love cold cuts. This sub was comforting, with fresh, tasty ingredients. The mozza-cheddar sub was excellent. I forgot to take a photo of my bottle of Diet Pepsi. Rest assured that I consumed it. It was cold and washed down all my food. This Mr Sub was a great find. On a white bread bun more like a huge hotdog bun than a specialty bun found at Subway, but actually very good. It held together quite well even loaded with toppings. It was later on a Monday night so there was one other customer just leaving as I arrived and the friendly woman behind the counter quickly made my sub and was very generous with the toppings. She was very quick and had me out the door in about 5 mins. There are some booths if you wish to eat in. Overall the restaurant was very clean looking and bright.

The patty itself is absolutely nothing special (and a little too dry), but the other components basically make up for it. Ever…read moresince it became a Subway (I say Scrubway these days, thanks to Jennifer P., who has likely trademarked it by now), I haven't set foot in this store that's next to Dairy Queen. You are probably asking, "But, Mary. You have food photos from Subway. You don't do delivery. How is that possible?" Two words: my dad. I am far from being a Subway regular. I am more a fan of Mr Sub, Quiznos, and Jersey Mike's. Yesterday, my dad was at Subway to grab lunch for himself and my mom, and decided to get me some food, too. He dropped it off at my door. So, technically, he was my surprise delivery person with a surprise lunch. I had to frankly guess what he got me. I am guessing that it was steak and cheese. The steak was chopped up, so it wouldn't have been roast beef that would likely be slices. Then again, I hadn't been to Subway for over a decade, so things could have changed. I also tasted mozzarella cheese. I felt like I was doing a blind tasting. I am happy to report that I didn't get olives in my sub. My dad used to ask for olives and they are not my thing. I used to pick them out, but I got so sick of seeing so many of them that I'd simply say no to the whole thing. The sub was good. It was on multi-grain bread. Since I ate it practically immediately after he brought it to me, it was yummy and was still warm. The veggies (onions, lettuce, and tomatoes) were fresh and yummy. I wish that there were more of them to supply more of a crunch, such as green peppers and cucumbers. My dad isn't a veggie lover and it was reflected in my sandwich. I really can't complain. It was a nice, thoughtful gesture. More importantly, it was free food... haha! He also got me a chocolate chip cookie. Yesterday was National Chocolate Chip Cookie (I don't know who comes up with these days, but I'll take it) and it was as if my dad knew that I needed a cookie. I loved it. It was crispy and chewy. I became a fan. At that point, few sub chains toasted their bread. Scrubway (Jennifer P. needs to copyright it, as I use it all the time now) didn't do it. Neither did Mr Sub. When I moved back to the GTA, there were a few Quiznos stores nearby. One was where my local Scrubway is, roughly five minutes away. The other one was closer to my workplace at the time, at McCowan and Sheppard Avenue East in Scarborough. Both are long gone. Frankly, the only Quiznos that I dropped by recently was on Bay Street, a few blocks away from Scotiabank Arena. I'd go there for a quick bite before a concert. The other evening, I was driving from Canadian Tire to Song Tea along Woodbine Avenue. My head turned when I saw the Quiznos sign to my left. Where have I been and why hadn't I ever noticed this sign? I kept thinking about it. I decided to fetch dinner here last Saturday. After getting my bubble tea, I drove over to this eatery. This Quiznos is in a plaza, a couple of doors down from Mi Ne Sushi, a place that I frequented perhaps eight years ago or so. I found a parking spot halfway down the row of parked cars and backed into it. I walked in and got a woman who said hi. She was busy preparing an order. I saw her fill a container with soup. You can dine in. However, tables and seating are limited. Once she was finished with that order, she focused solely on me. My usual subs are the black angus steak and mesquite chicken. I deviated from both when I saw the beef and swiss melt. I got a foot-long on rosemary parmesan bread. She asked me whether I was good with mushrooms. Yes, said the mushroom freak. Oh, how I have missed being at a Quiznos. I like seeing my sandwich go through the toasting conveyor and come out looking all yummy. I paid with a credit card. This place only accepts credit and debit cards. She wrapped up my sub and handed it over in a bag. I thanked her and left happy with sub in hand. My car smelled so good as I drove home. The only reason I didn't devour my sub was because it was in the backseat and I couldn't reach it while driving. It's a good strategy if you don't have any willpower. I had my sub when I got home. I devoured the whole thing. I normally do an 8" sub, but I was hungry. I'm so glad I went big. The sub looked narrower than I recall. Then again, I have had Jersey Mike's Subs these days that they look gigantic compared to any sub out there. I loved the beef and swiss melt. The beef was tender, juicy, and yummy. The swiss cheese was the perfect amount and was melty delicious. The mushrooms were yummy although this mushroom fanatic would have enjoyed more of them. The bread was excellent toasted. Yum all around! I'm so glad that I found this Quiznos. I was the only customer in the store and I suspect that it does quiet business with all restaurants around it. Although I tipped them but the attitude is still the same. This is my last day that I'm gonna visit this restaurant enough is enough.
