This is a really great venue! Very intimate, there's not a bad view in the whole place. Ticket and beverage prices are really fair. They have free water at the bar, $1 ear plugs at the ticket window if you've forgotten yours, and tons of street parking. If you're looking for something to do before the show, definitely try the Grist House. It's a like 5 minute walk.

I really love how intimate this venue is! The stage is really cool since this used to be a church and there are two bars inside where you can get drinks during the concert. Drinks are decently priced too. You really get to be super close to the performers and the lighting setup is pretty awesome here too. Lines to get in usually look long but it's actually not so bad even when it wraps around the church. Their bathrooms are kind of small though and have weird saloon doors haha. I think this venue is also at a great location too! Millvale seems like a cool neighborhood.

On a scale of documentaries to romance novels, Mr Smalls Fun House is Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Reid Jenkins. An intimate concert venue, Mr Smalls Theatre offers music lovers an up-close, personal interaction with their favorite bands and performers. Whether you choose general admission or opt for an upgrade to VIP balcony seating (and a tab of drinks and food), you're sure to have a fantastic experience. Drinks can be purchased at the bar on the main floor, balcony, or down in the cafe. P.S. As an introvert, I would highly suggest the VIP balcony seating or a break to the cafe mid-concert to recharge.

Mr. Smalls is a great place for live music! I have been going here regularly for the last 15 years (wow, that makes me feel old). Mr. Smalls has gone through many renovations and updates over the years, and it is a really nice venue now! This old church turned music venue(s) and cafe is located in Millvale. Parking is always tricky in this small town so I usually uber. The security check, ticket taker, and ID check are all quick to get through. Once inside you can stand in the general admission pit, or upgrade your tickets to sit on the balcony above. I always stand close to the stage. I love that big names have played this intimate venue. I've been here for everything from heavy metal bands with mosh pits and crowd surfing to acoustic acts like Conor Oberst and Phoebe Bridgers to comedians like Fred Armisen. We are so lucky to have this intimate venue so close to the city. The drinks are reasonably priced, but I have never tried food from their cafe. Pro tip - go down the steps in the back of the venue near the bar to use their downstairs bathroom (it's always empty and clean). I look forward to many more years of great live music here!

When we got tickets for Lone Bellow playing here, I had no idea what the venue would be like and did not research via Yelp or interrogate friends beforehand. Was I ever surprised, pleasantly so, when pulling up we realized it was a repurposed church! We ended up upgrading our tickets from general admission standup only on ground floor to seats in the top balcony section. This then included food and drinks for the price of the upgrade. Well worth it! The sound was great, the performance super , there was a bar and restrooms one floor down from our level. Staff came by to take our drink orders most of the night and we went to the bar other times. Parking is available on your own on the street for free. Very pleased.

We attended a show in this venue, which is upstairs in the location. The staff said the capacity was 175 people. It has a bar in the room where the show is performed. Out in the entry area, there is a kitchen, where you can order food with a small counter to eat at. The bathroom had 2 stalls behind curtains. That was a little different, but no big deal. The show I was at was not packed, so it made it a great experience.

One of my favorite venues in Pittsburgh. I've been to roughly 25 shows here and I've enjoyed every single one. The vibe of the crowd for sure sets the tone of any show but I get good vibes at mr. Smalls!! I will come back anytime. Recently, I saw moon hooch @ mr. Smalls and it was one of my favorite shows of all time. Check out moon hooch!!

Went here for a concert, it was cheap for the tickets, the venue upstairs was good and not too loud, seemed like a vibe. Would go again.

Let's get the one problem out of the way: Our only issue was that the host was incredibly cold and seemed very irritated with us, which we were not used to. We tried to joke and interact in an upbeat way, but they almost seemed to be repulsed by us and annoyed that we were talking to them. We had a reservation, so we really didn't have a choice. I suggest Spirit find a different position for that host, as good of a person as I am sure they are, they don't seem to like people at all. I am taking off a star because of the host being a complete buzzkill to the beginning of our experience. Who you hire matters! Where is 3D Mark or someone who loves to play and makes you feel like family? As for the food, five stars. We loved Chef Raf's pop-up! We loved that it felt like a beautiful combo of Spirit's pizza kitchen with Raf's high quality filipino flavors! The drinks were good. We were delighted at the vegan options and all of the cool nonalcoholic drinks. LOVE. The atmosphere was also super cool. Lots of plants, a moose horn, a bear head mascot mask thing, windows with natural light that slightly look out onto the street. It's not that big of a space in the room we were, but there's one big booth in the back that can sit maybe 7 people if you squish.

If you like ultra-hopped hazy beers and double, triple, quadruple IPAs, then this is your spot. Basically the boring Dancing Gnome formula on crack. A few times a year I can find something that isn't packed with hops and haze, but those times are becoming fewer and farther between as time has passed. They have a lot of activities for adults and even families, a cool indoor space, very dog-friendly (which is a minus for me but a plus for most people, it seems. Please make sure your dog likes people and other dogs and responds to commands before you subject the public to their behavior, thanks). The food trucks outside are usually very tasty and quite expensive. Perfect Lawrenceville spot, if you're into lots and lots of hops- despite the fact that these beers haven't been trending in years, apparently the public didn't get the memo, because they seem quite popular. If you like hops and modern third spaces, this place is for you. If you want a lager or a dark or amber beer, it's probably not going to be here. If you do like this spot, make sure you use tap-to-pay with your phone to get loyalty rewards. If you spend way too much in a short amount of time, they will make it worth your while, for sure.

I had spent a lot of time since moving to Pittsburgh looking for somewhere comparable to my old haunts (926 and Waterworks) that I used to frequent in Tallahassee. Cattivo was it. Namely, a friendly bar where you can go to dance to all the classics and weird music for sensitive, artsy types of a darkly poetic inclination, admirers of the likes of the late Anne Rice's (R.I.P.) Lestat and the crew from The Lost Boys. A place to feel the energy of '80s New Wave and Post-Punk, classic Gothic Rock, Darkwave and Industrial, and so on. The features of the first-level bar are pleasant. Quality sound system, at least two pinball machines, a digital jukebox, round bar table lined with illuminated glass tiles, and decent selection of cheap beers and standard bar cocktails at about the prices you'd expect. Bartenders are pleasantly cheery and talkative, and will sometimes cue up a series or movie on Netflix (another similarity to my former haunts of long ago that I appreciate) to provide background visuals. Much like one of the former haunts I was looking for a substitute for, Cattivo has an ambiguous and possibly vestigial reputation for being a space that attracts LGBT+ clientele. On that: a few of the reviews here are slightly old and from a time that Cattivo advertised itself as a gay bar oriented mainly towards women dating/seeking women. To my knowledge this is no longer Cattivo's "main thing", although it is at the very least queer-friendly and does still sometimes sporadically host events intended for people who date or are seeking others of the same sex. Should anyone ask, however - I have no idea at present even from hearsay what someone's chances would be of hooking up with someone or finding a one-night stand here based on their own gender and sexual orientation, or the gender or sexual orientation of who they might be looking to meet. Another review by another reviewer may be able to speak to that. The upstairs/main floor mostly hosts dance nights of the types mentioned above. The downstairs hosts a variety of events, ranging from EDM nights packed with people wearing kandi and glow necklaces to local DIY punk acts. As a result the main level/upstairs (chill and laid-back) and downstairs (always filled with a raucous din) give off two completely different energies. As a bit more of a hobbit than a dwarf, let me say I greatly prefer the creature comforts of the upstairs to the party animal attitude of the downstairs. This is clearly going to be a matter of individual inclination, however. At the moment Cattivo is open relatively limited days/hours and the kitchen is closed. That may be subject to change in the future. If this place sounds like somewhere that matches your energy, highly recommend.

Additionally, there is a MINIMUM $10 cover fee every night, regardless of what's going on inside (nothing to write home about), on top of that there is a minimum charge of $10 on credit/debit cards. Meaning you must spend at least $20 to have a mediocre night here. To add to it all, I've left my card here once, I was able to come back the next day and get it luckily. My friend did the same a few months later, she went back the next day and the bartender (some guy) working started discussing with her how hammered he was the night prior and that he was still hungover. She provided her ID to him and he checked the cards they had and said "sorry, your card's not here. We might've given it out to someone else" HELLO WHAT?! Maybe we should check IDs before giving a card away?! Anyways she inquired how that would be possible and he responded "I don't know man, I can't just make it appear out of thin air".
