110% obsessed with this food truck that's a gem in this sea of heavy hitting Asian eateries in the neighborhood Mr Khao whips up a delicious meal that checks off many things for a fat Asian kid who gets the thrills of a good cheap eat: 1. No frills food that focuses only on authentic flavors 2. Affordably priced (~$10 for their set meals, got the ~$10 fried chicken combo with salad, soup, over ginger rice) 3. Decent portions 4. Each bite of that juicy chicken makes you wonder - why do people ever get fast food chicken? 5. Mr Khao only serves three 'main' courses - fried, steamed, and Grilled. *Like talk about selection paralysis here (You know its legit if that's all they really serve) No joke though, fried chicken Set #3 with ginger rice is crack (~$10). Big portions of juicy fried chicken, over a bed of zesty ginger rice. Love the savory dipping sauce that was super spicy and flavorful Chicken wasn't too greasy and was nice and crispy. You can also order the chicken separately for $4 each. Grilled, Fried, or steamed. They also do a few thai teas and coffee to wash all of that goodness down. *Venmo friendly, so for those who forget to bring cash the food truck here's got you covered bro.

$9 for a hearty, delicious hot khao man gai meal in NYC in 2022?!?!! Such a super value meal!!! This is why I return again and again to this stall (and the main thing keeping me fed without going broke in NYC). Thank you Mr Khao Man Gai! Only con is that they're not always parked in the same location so you have to get lucky to find them.

Great bang for your buck and really tasty! This food truck gets you a super flavorful lunch for $10! The fried chicken is always crispy, the rice is good and the sauce brings it all together. Not much to say other than give this place a shot if you need some tasty sustenance and are in a time crunch.

Fantastic little food cart in midtown (45th & 6th). Their menu is simple. You have three main options (1. Steamed chicken, Grilled chicken, and Fried chicken). Each comes with ginger rice and sauce on the side. They're also very affordable by midtown standards. $8 for the steamed chicken and $9 for the other two. I went with the steamed chicken rice bowl and a side of the grilled chicken. Both were delicious. The chicken was tender and juicy. The ginger rice was fantastic and the sauce paired well with the chicken. I've tried many food trucks and food carts in NYC. Mr. Khao Man Gai is easily one of the best.

    $9 for all of these!!

I absolutely adore this food truck. It's some of the best Thai style chicken I've ever had with the most reasonable prices ($3 for the chicken if you don't want the rice and salad) The Thai Hainanese Chicken is super tender and totally comes alive with the soulful dipping sauce Grilled chicken is juicy, flavorful, and nicely spiced. Fried chicken retains a nice balance between a crispy outside and a tender, juicy inside. Highly recommend!

This was delicious and so well Priced. Both the steamed chicken and the fried were great. They only take cash or Venmo, you can find them in LIC next to the statue of the pink laying man.

This has been my go-to meal during the pandemic when I don't feel like cooking. They have two carts, one near the bridge in front of Murray's Cheese, and the other at Jackson Ave and Purves Street. The carts are there Mon-Fri, 5pm-9pm. Unfortunately, they are not here during lunch or on weekends. Both carts support contactless payment. I either get the steamed ($9) or the fried ($10) set, which comes with sauces, daikon radish soup, cucumbers, and cilantro. The steamed chicken comes with an acidic ginger sauce and kecap manis. The fried comes with a sweet sauce. You can't go wrong with either choice. I don't know why bland steamed chicken from this cart is so good, but it just is. The chicken is so tender and moist. The fried chicken is flavorful enough that you can eat it without the sauce. I usually tell myself not to eat all the chicken rice, but it's so good I can't help but eat the whole thing. They make sure they fill up the whole container with chicken so you're getting your money's worth.

I highly recommend it! There's two locations. One across from Nestseekers International and another next to the Queens Plaza station. Make sure you go to the right one if you call ahead

They even have a nice secret menu. I started off with a Hugo Spritz while I scanned the menu. It was okay but could've used more mint and it was pricey for a spritz. For my food, I had the vegetable spring rolls and the drunken noddles with chicken (spicy). The spring rolls were good and a nice portion. They were packed with veggies, crispy and nice and hot when they came out. The drunken noddles were also good. I expected the spicy to a hit a little more kick to it but I didn't want to go full Thai spicy. I expected the portion to be a little bigger for the price. The waitress was nice. She took my order pretty quickly after I sat down and checked in a few times but wasn't overbearing. Overall, solid spot in midtown if you're in the area, but just note it is a bit more pricer than your average Thai restaurant.

Considering the hectic 48hrs of non-stop traveling and celebrations, I would've been satisfied with a simple takeout meal to end the weekend but to my surprise, one of the best experiences of the trip was yet to come. Thankfully I was blessed with great friends to recommend this exceptional establishment known as Mitr Thai in Midtown Manhattan. Though the trip was centered around a wedding, my experience here instantly became the highlight of my trip to the City. One very genuine friend arranged this dinner, making a reservation for 3 for 7:30pm. To our surprise, we actually made it from Connecticut, walked from Grand Central and to Mitr Thai at 7:25pm even though they won't seat you until your entire party is there. After passing through the scaffolding, the restaurant has a two-door entry, one host after another, leading to a quaint but alluring lobby area. We were greeted by both hosts even though we were bogged down with luggage. The space was welcoming and had a sense of elegance as there was a blend of hardwood furnishings, low lighting and a heavy dose of Thai art/fixtures. For context: Labor Day Monday, at 7-8pm, there was a steady demand as the waiting bench remained full. There were even guests standing but even as more people came in, people were being seated at a consistent rate. Our 3rd friend arrived closer to 8pm and we were seated immediately. Our bags were placed in a small room behind the host podium and we were seated 20-30 meters from the door along the wall facing the bar. The menus were very comprehensive: large, descriptive and filled with graphics that left me wondering if I could try it all. I couldn't praise our server (Mindy) enough. She knew the kitchen, bar and any/all offerings like her own name. She had individual recommendations for each of us AND ADDITIONAL OPTIONS. I listened, ordered the Short Rib Prik Kang and indulged in a Verdant Whisper (Tequila, Cucumber, Lime). I'm not sure how but our food arrived less than 15mins later! The short rib looked good enough to make the entire restaurant jealous: the curry paste glistened in the light, the aroma called my name while the garnishes winked at me. To my disbelief, as good as it looked, it tasted even better! The sauce was robust, smooth, creamy & just spicy enough. Since the ribs slid off the bone, I mixed in the white mixed rice and ate it as a meal. I can proudly say I've never had anything like it. Oh yeah, the cocktail? Smooth, refreshing and relaxing. Worth every penny. I was elated with the overall experience and chose to pay for both of my friend's meals. My only regret is not having more to tip! Mindy gave us the table to chat for another 30mins but in the back of my mind I was still enamored from the meal. I had no expectations when I entered Mitr Thai but I left with a sincere amount of praise and admiration. From cuisine to the hospitality down to the furnishings, dining here was one of the best overall experiences I've had in YEARS. I cannot say enough about this establishment and I hope they Always Strive & Prosper.

However, when I got to the restaurant, I was told that they were not participating. When I brought this up to the staff, they did comment that several people made the same mistake earlier in the week. If that was the case, then why not correct the restaurant week website, or make it very obvious on your website that you aren't participating? Both of us were starving, and I had put in a birthday request at the restaurant, so we decided to stay. The ambiance is classy, and this would be a great spot for a business dinner or date night. I ordered a massaman curry with roti and chicken ($29), and my friend ordered the chuchi shrimp ($30) and curry puff ($16). Prices are a bit above average for the portion size, but justified by the area. We both enjoyed our dishes; the flavors were on point! Then, for my friend's birthday, they gave us mochi ice cream and a card signed by the staff! That was a nice touch that overrode the restaurant week debacle. Service was fantastic. There were multiple check backs and water refills. I would recommend Sabai Thai for a fancy night out, and I would return to try other dishes.

I met and talked to the owner and Chef, Andrew Nguyen, who explained he took over the premises, which had been operating as a Thai restaurant and now Andrew is converting the restaurant under the Mango Tree name to a Thai and Vietnamese restaurant and the two menus you see at Mango Tree currently will be integrated into one Vietnamese and Thai menu imminently. Andrew Nguyen is a French trained chef of Vietnamese origins and I gather from Andrew the new menu will reflect the Vietnamese dishes primarily, while retaining the Thai favorites. The decor of the restaurant is inviting with relaxed colorway and simple streamlined aesthetics; though, I ordered my food to go. There were patrons dining there where the food served is most optimal. You can sit at the small bar or sit at any one of about a dozen tables. I will definitely return and dine here. I chose one of the top dishes served at Mango Tree: the Lemongrass-Ginger braised Beef Short Rib. It comes with chopped fingerling potatoes, julienned carrots, and peas in this charred scallion creme fraiche that lends a tangy and savory taste to the gravy. His culinary chops show in the details, with the petit peas, julienned carrots, and potatoes retaining their structural integrity and texture, given they were not overcooked. The slivers of ginger are sliced so thin and are employed just enough to give you that hint of their presence without stepping too far forward. The lemongrass is also quite restrained; though, I believe he could have used more lemongrass without it taking over the dish, which in combination with the ginger, owing to the unctuous and tender beef short rib, provides a great counterpoint and balance to the overall flavors. At $25, it's a decent value; though, some might say a bit undersized. Everyone will say it's delicious and it is one of the favorites according to Andrew, along with the salmon, pork tenderloin, and pot stickers, among others. Andrew is most gracious in handling everything as I saw this Sunday evening after 8. He takes the orders, cooks, busses the tables. He's doing it all and with a great attitude. This is the kind of spot with an owner who cares about what he serves that deserves to be supported and experienced. It's a work in progress, kept very clean, and I will return to experience the upside. 3.9 stars and improving...

The Ahi Tuna was the perfect and proper color it should be. The flavors were SPECTACULAR-WONDERFUL!!! NOTE: WAGAMAMA has added to their menu, since my last visit, so you now have a RAMEN SELECTION, and other yummy additions. I was too full from my spectacular Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl to try the Korean bbq Chicken Wings ($8.95) but, I will definitely be back to try them!! I'll post menu photos so you have an idea of the delicious food choices. (April 2026) My very first delicious bite of Ahi Tuna had a heavenly garlic flavor, it was wonderful, and the sweet green seaweed with rice only added to the wonderfulness. Vertical slices of cucumber, onion and scallion, also add deliciously to my wonderful Poke Bowl. Toasted sesame seeds, too. SIMPLY MARVELOUS!!! Remember to be sure to mix the poke bowl rice as you eat, so that you mix the rice with the yummy sauce that may accumulate at the bottom of the poke bowl. I usually eat a little while, THEN, mix the rice. This was so good, I had to eat, eat, eat, before I could stop to mix. LOL. That sweet green seaweed was so yummy!! A lovely mix of flavors...the garlic, the sweetness....I LOVED IT ALL SO MUCH!!!! When was the last time you enjoyed a dish so very much that you felt like standing up in the restaurant and telling everyone: THIS IS SOOO DELICIOUS!!!! Well, I felt like that, but I didn't stand up and tell everyone, but I did tell the manager, who happen to come to the table to ask how everything was. And I let him know how much I was enjoying the Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl. He explained why and how the tuna was so flavorful. We had a delightful brief foodie chat. What a joy!! The service is very nice here. I like the atmosphere too. And the music, which is cool; it does not interfere with thinking, or having a conversation. I really like it here . The women's rest room was very nice, and clean, with a Dyson Hand Dryer, so no paper towels on the floor. Yay! Helping our environment, too!! And I like the black and white wall paper, too. See my photos My last visit I enjoyed the Pad Thai, and the same non-alcoholic beverage, " Asian Mint Limeade", from the MINDFUL DRINKS area on the beverage menu. ($9.50) (April 2026). A nice treat! It does have a light carbonation (bubbles). This visit my delicious meal was from the BOWLS SECTION of the food menu, it was the AHI TUNA POKE BOWL ($17.95) (April 2026) With warm, and hot weather on the way, I know I will be enjoying this AHI TUNA POKE BOWL again...and again! If you love good food, good service, and a very cool environment, put this location of WAGAMAMA on your list ! (East side) LOCATED On THIRD AVE, at East 39th Street. There is OUTDOOR SEATING, too, with red umbrellas. See my photos. Enjoy yourself here. Totally delightful. There are several locations in Manhattan. I did not know that. So, the one I have dined at is ON THIRD AVENUE, at EAST 39th Street. Look for the Red Umbrellas outside, at the corner of East 39th Street and Third Avenue. Enjoy!!!
