Well, there's alot of people named John who instinctively have an affinity for your store. And they, like myself, are interested in what you currently have in store for them. Every time I go to Folly Beach I look forward to visiting your business. Why? To purchase one of your shirts with my name, John, on it, and then I start looking around. Usually I'll also purchase a sticker and a shell or two. So, once again, great idea having a store named Mr. John John E. BS. Marketing Asheville read more

Kudos to this establishment for decades in business in little Folly Beach. They provide whatever you need for beach life, pretty much, from souvenirs to sunscreen. The selection leans more toward family beach visit than surfer gear. You can get the later at a couple dedicated dive shops across the street. When I wandered through I didn't see anything I had to have but I could hear staff helping other customers in a friendly way. The prices were about what you would find elsewhere but you cannot beat the convenience of having this place just down the block from the beach. read more

A piece of Americana on Folly Beach, known as the Edge of America. Closing today after all these years. (Opened in 1951.) Questions about Folly Beach, the owner knows the answer. A lot of touristy things for sale of course, but bathing suits and lady's dresses too. read more

Every destination has these stores, and almost always they're filled with overpriced crap you buy to show family and friends you thought about them while you were away not thinking about anything. Mr. John's is exactly that shop, only it's surprisingly not as overpriced as others you've probably been in before! You'll find the magnets with every name on them except the one you're looking for, keychains of the same variety, and all manner of other personalized items you definitely never thought you'd be buying while on vacation. The humping pig salt and pepper shakers with the saying "Makin Bacon" across the rump caught my attention immediately. I just can't figure out why that would be a relevant souvenirs of Charleston. They even had pot paraphernalia too! We ended up buying some Charleston kitchen towels and a few magnets highlighting the state of SC. They seemed most appropriate and we felt confident they'd make our friends feel appreciated. All in all, decent souvenirs shop experience. Stop here if you're in the need and the area. read more

We came in to get souvenirs from our trip, but we should have shopped somewhere else. The colorful shirts caught our eye and the kids really liked them, so we let them choose their shirts. We bought quite a few things and spent a ton of money there. When we got to the counter with our selections, the young woman working there was trying to put a design on a shirt while talk8ng on her cell phone. She seemed to have an attitude that we were bothering her by wanting to check out. She was a bit short with us, but I continued to smile and gave her the benefit of the doubt, thinking maybe she was just overwhelmed. We got outside after our purchase, and the kids wanted to wear their new shirts. We pulled them from the bag, only to discover that the youngest one's had a seam not sewn. I took it back in to simply exchange for one that didn't have a flaw. Again, this clerk seemed like she was really frustrated that I wanted a shirt that wasn't damaged. While I searched through the pile of shirts to find the same design in his size, Grandson came in and said since there were no more blue shirts in that design, he would take yellow. We pulled out the yellow one and the clerk came over with the damaged shirts (there were two with unseen seams) and put them back on the shelf for some other unsuspecting customer! I was shocked! By that time, she had gone past the point of seeming to be frustrated or overwhelmed and was just downright rude. That night, we did laundry. The design on the yellow shirt we exchanged for, came apart, ad though it was shredding. We gathered as many pieces of the design as we could find, with the intention of my daughter repairing it as much as she could. It looked TERRIBLE and we weren't sure we could save it. Clearly these people are not taking the time to make these shirts properly. I paid a lot of money for these shirts, and as we inspected the rest of them, we realized they were ALL going to fall apart in the wash. They were not properly adhered and as my daughter had watched as this woman had done a couple shirts, she noted that she was not following proper procedure for adhering a transfer to the fabric. They have signs up that they will not give refunds, but you can exchange for same product or store credit. My daughter attempted to reattach the transfer on the yellow shirt, as well as attempted to re-press all the others we purchased, but I have a feeling that they may also come apart in the wash, even though we used cold water on a gentle cycle. You can be sure that on our next trip to Folly Beach, we will NOT be shopping in Mr. John's Beach Shop! read more

Cheap chachki items that will no doubt dissolve rapidly come sun, wash or tide. Shirts hanging on a banged up wardrobe roller shoved recklessly upon the streetwise really says something about a place. Perhaps a cut above Goodwill in newness but a few cuts below in quality. #junk Then I went inside and got completely blown off by Miss Priss pampering herself with drink and phone. Thought to throw out an additional line of communication, seeing as I'm at the beach and all -- nothing. My suggestion, shop at the real surfshops. You'll pay a bit more but not look uber ghetto, Wal-Mart fabulous. read more

Not someplace you'll be going every week, but if you're looking for souvenirs that you haven't found at some of the other stores for Folly on Center St., give this place a shot. Prices were comparable and they have quite the variety of stuff. read more

I've been frequenting Mr. John's Beach Store every summer for as long as I can remember. The man that owns and runs the store now is Mr. John's son. I'm not sure how long the store has been there but it's clearly an institution on Folly. It's a great little store with just about everything you could need while visiting the beach. They have the basics for a great beach day - towels, flops, toys, inflatables, etc. They also have souvenirs if you are looking for postcards, magnets or the like. They include some higher end items too such as jewelry and ridiculously cool porch/chair hammocks. I had to literally pull boyfriend away from those and I must say that I can't blame him. They were awesome. I bought a fab bracelet from there many years ago and still rock it on a regular basis. A trip to Folly is not complete for me unless I go to Mr. John's! I highly recommend checking it out. read more

A little scary at first. Only one guy working-there were handwritten signs telling you to fold the shirts when you are done. I ended up getting 3 shirts reasonably priced. If you can get around the unpacked boxes-good luck! read more

While reading a yelp friends review of a Christmas store I realized I completely forgot to give a review of Mr. John's. What does it have to do with Christmas? My wife loves everything Christmas and she puts up three to four trees each year. This past Christmas her new tree was a beach themed tree. While visiting Mr. John's last summer on a mission to find a large starfish for the topper he was able to find her exactly what she needed. You will see in the picture the starfish topper she made from what he had in his storage for the store. Every time we are in Folly which is several times a year, we always visit Mr. John's store. He has just about anything you could want beach related. He is a pleasure to talk to and share stories. If your looking for something and don't see it, ask him. He may just have it tucked away. read more

Mr John's is a beloved institution of Folly Beach. Mr Johns is the only place to buy from on Folly. He is the kindest man ever and Ms Peggy is awesome too. We love them both dearly and they always have exactly what we are looking for. Even being locals we find something new every time. read more

Love this little store in Folly. For the size of this place, it is jam packed with nautical treasures from floor to ceiling. They've pretty much got it all- from pool floats and windchimes to seashells and snow globes. If you're looking for a fun something to bring home from vacation, or beach up your abode, you've got to go here first! Don't bring your bulky beach bag in here though, some of the aisles get very cozy! I went on a bit of a beachy shopping spree and only spent around 30 bucks here. Prices are super reasonable and the stuff is quality! read more

So I recently visited mr johns store on our semi annual return to Folly. I very well knew that catching the store open was an art of its own and avoiding the every changing rate of parking fees... but I was committed. The store has metal signs replicas of old post card stock that are very cool, I have purchased one for our KY lake house and now want one for my home as well, this guy in the store was the absolute worse experience we have had ever on our many trips to Folly. Rude, hateful, flippant until we wanted 2 of the metal signs, which have to be the most expensive items in the whole store. Then he tried to be nice and chatty, he needs to find another beach and leave Folly to friendly people . We visited April 30th, 2021 @ 730 pm . Hope someone in mgm reads this and if he is mgm Retire!! read more

Old fashioned beach store shopping. Every little thing you need for a day on the sand - and a little more. A fun place to shop

Bad experience. Nice environment but was yelled at by worker for touching necklace. How am I supposed to pick out something if I'm being yelled at for touching the merchandise? I just wanted to get a closer look. Older man was very rude and impolite. I felt profiled. Don't recommend. read more
