It's one of the oldest public markets in the U.S. Has weathered many storms and has been registered in the National Registry of Historic Places. Established in 1788 (even though the inside entrance stats 1807) & as of today it still stands on the premises of monetary trades & services, as well as shared cultural heritage. There are countess vendors throughout this retail galleria. We enjoyed mainly browsing the works of products that were officially certified as Handmade in Charleston. You won't get tired of looking, but a lot of repeat sellers. It's essentially like a flea market if you will. It was fun, but way too much basket weaving vendors. Was so intriguing to watch the Gullah artistry & understand its importance here, but would have liked to have seen and explored MORE local foods. Wished that they would have had a specific area that was an actual type of wet market/ open-air concept or traditional marketplace that sells fresh, perishable foods like meat, seafood, and produce focusing more on local eats and food heritage of its distinct low country cuisine. There were some food spots, just not what we had envisioned or experiencing with other east coast markets we've been to. Bought a bottled water that was over $5! I've been happily coming into Half Moon for years now! I've taken a hiatus from visiting the…read moredowntown location only because their West Ashley location houses a great selection of climbing gear (and wall!) and that's been my primary out door activity/investment as of late. But, while strolling down King Street on a particularly stifling afternoon, I decided to pop in to escape the heat and see what they have in the shop. Let me tell you, these kids certainly know what they are talking about. I was warmly greeted at the door and the whole staff gave out a helpful, fun energy that felt quite genuine (which can get rare shopping on King Street). Katie - who I recognized from years back - ended up helping me to the point where a trip to Pisgah went from tentative to fully outfitted! They were very patient and forthright about what I would and would not need and I ended up using every piece of gear she and Brian (I think?) helped me choose. Great technical and stylish stuff. If you are planning a trip, this is where I'd recommend to go get outfitted. If you just want some fresh threads or stuff for the beach, this is your place too. All and all, I'd like to say thank to the great staff of the moon. I'd like to buy a round of beer for each one of you... and that's the highest praise a guy like me can give!

I love that they keep up with the brands instead of only selling Patagonia, Mtn Hardware and the like. I saw they had stuff from great brands like Cotopaxi and Arc'Teryx. They even offer their own house brand and local favorites like Free Fly. Plus they have a large shoe selection. Again, they offer a lot of the brands you would think of in an outdoor store, but keeping up with the trends, you'll also see Blundstones, Oofos, and Danner to name a few. This downtown location has your outdoor needs covered.
