If you value your money, time, and sanity, do yourself a favor and avoid CorePower Yoga in Goleta…read more My experience was nothing short of infuriating, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. First off, I paid $34 for a Yoga Sculpt class, and if you know anything about Yoga Sculpt, you know the class revolves around the use of weights. They're not just optional props they are essential to the workout. Imagine my shock when I arrived 10 minutes before class started, only to find there were no weights available not just for me but for at least five other people too! When I asked the front desk for help, they just looked at me cluelessly. It's ridiculous to think I should have to show up 30 minutes early just to ensure I have the basic equipment needed for the class. Walking into the room, I was immediately hit with a wave of disappointment. The room was so overcrowded that I could barely find a spot to roll out my mat. I'm talking wall-to-wall bodies--no personal space whatsoever. At one point, I was literally an inch away from getting kicked in the face. I was worried I'd kick the person behind me, and the whole situation felt chaotic and unsafe. After struggling to even set up my mat, I tried to start the class, but it was impossible to move without risking hitting someone. I ended up leaving just 5 minutes into the class because I physically couldn't do the workout. I pay too much money and go out of my way to attend these classes, and to have my workout time wasted like this was beyond frustrating. After leaving, I went to the front desk to share my frustration. That's when I learned the real reason behind the madness--they recently increased the room capacity. But here's the kicker: They didn't increase the space or supplies to match. When I expressed how upset I was, the girl at the front desk offered nothing but a half-hearted "sorry." No compensation, no offer to help, no attempt to make the situation right--just a dismissive brush-off. The instructor did nothing to help either. She could see people were struggling with space and equipment, but she didn't bother to address it. It's not just about guiding a workout--it's about creating a positive, supportive environment. That didn't happen here. In short, CorePower Yoga in Goleta is overcrowded, poorly managed, and not worth the steep price. Literally Spend your money anywhere else where you'll actually receive the service and experience youre PAYING for.

Although COVID was still very much around in 2021, the gym reopened in the spring of that year. The COVID protocols were a bit funky... they required masks to enter the facility but once you were running on the treadmill, you could take them off?!? Didn't make sense to me. Anyhow, now that the mask mandate is over, it's kind of like "at your own risk". They offer wipes throughout the class (when switching groups) to sanitize the equipment for the next person. I do love the workout because I think it's the best bang for your buck, if you want an intense workout (mostly cardio) with about 15-20 minutes of strength training. You do a session on the treadmill (up to 30 minutes) of running at varied paces/inclines. Then a combination of rowing and strength training. I like to start on the treadmill. The bigger classes get split into three groups, with a 1/3 of the class starting on the treadmill, rower, or weight room. Bring a towel and water bottle!!! You will be dripping sweat by the end of it. The goal is to get at least 12 splat points (when your heart rate gets over 84%). To track this, you will have to buy the OTF heart monitor and you will see your progress on the screens around the room. The theory if you get 12+ splat points, you will burn extra calories over the next 24 hours. The coaches are all great. I especially like Sarah, Stephanie, and Jeff! They are all very encouraging during the workout. During the academic year, this location is filled with college girls from UCSB, just FYI. It's never hard to get into a class, and I usually wait until the morning of to book a class through their online app since there is a late cancellation policy if you don't cancel within 8 (?) hours of the scheduled class. I signed up for the Elite membership which gives me 8 classes a month, which works perfectly for me, as I do a lot of other forms of exercise. I love OTF and am glad it's part of my workout routine!!

From Jeremiah (asst mgr) to front desk guy to Eric (general mgr), none of them care or follow through. Eric said he was going to come to class every day for a week and read the rules to the class (which include no talking during class), and start kicking people out of the pool if they were talking. He didn't show up once. All he did was post the rules on the locker room door, which at least makes it easier to turn to someone in the pool and say "there's no talking during class." I wrote Eric a second email regarding the issue and he said "you've got to be patient. It takes time for things to change." Not good enough. I'm extremely disappointed in Swell and in Eric Geeb, the general manager. Edited to add: I mentioned to Eric that I did enjoy my training session with Danny and Eric offered to comp my next session with Danny in return for my disappointment over Aqua aerobics. I thought that was very nice of Eric.

In my 50+ years of gym memberships throughout California, AC4--Goleta has been the best gym…read moreexperience I've had. For many reasons. Here are a few, in no particular order, but I will indicate when a reason is especially important. This gym is family-owned and designed by Anthony (owner) to accommodate a category of members who need access to weights (free and machine) and workout space, but who don't want to be surrounded by the annoying negatives of the traditional gym culture. I'm there to work out and appreciate fellow clients who respect important gym etiquette rules and the "flow" process--moving from station-to-station without "owning" equipment or seats. New clients are introduced to the gym's rules (see attached photo) to help everyone understand that there are expected behavior norms in this setting, including common sense limits on some types of cell phone behaviors and prolonged "residence" on one or more weight stations. The gym has three main workout areas--a design circuit of machines; free weights, Smith racks, leg presses, stacks; and cardiovascular options: treadmills, recumbent bikes, ellipticals, and rowing machine (second floor). There are two additional workout spaces on the second floor to accommodate free exercise and stretching routines. Three unisex bathrooms, two unisex showers, lockers, two tanning rooms, and two hydrotherapy massage tables. There is ample onsite parking. This gym is a "key-access" gym, open to members 24-7, which is a big draw for me because clients tend to spread out their attendance over the entire course of the day, and there have been no occasions in my six years of membership here that I haven't found space and solace on the floor. Important also: this gym is always clean; the restrooms are clean; the equipment is clean. AC4 employees are frequently on the floor cleaning. And clients clean their own benches after they complete exercise at a given station. Clean is important. On a personal note, I'm a life-long competitive swimmer who needs regular weight conditioning to remain functional in the pool. I need a specific range of equipment and machines to maintain a balance between chest, back, and shoulders. This gym offers the weights and machines I need to ward off shoulder and back injuries from 60 years of swimming. I'm not here to dead-lift 300 lbs and chest-press my weight in iron. Tony has designed an effective combination of machines, free weights, and exercise areas that compliment my conditioning goals. I've written this extended review in appreciation of Tony's business because I deeply value the resources and thoughtfulness of this gym.
