Empowered Wellness changed my life. Before camp I wasn't happy, wasn't confident and the lack of exercise made it hard for me to even walk up the stairs. This all soon changed in the Summer of 2018. In the first few days I met loads of amazing people who it's a pleasure to call lifelong friends. The adjustment from normal life to camp life was surprisingly easy for me. The staff helped so much in every way possible. So you feel at home straight away. The accommodation was great, every suite has a TV where you can relax on a night before bed and watch a movie. The food was amazing. When you think of "Weight Loss Diet" you think of a salad every meal. But no! You can chose from healthy burgers, to fresh pizza and even crunchy chicken tenders! Everything tasted amazing. The activities were so fun. It wasn't just a workout every hour of the day. You played games such as capture the flag, tag and even chill out at the pool and have a fun swim! Camp taught me that not every way of exercise means running miles, you can have fun other ways with everybody. Day to day life of camp is well plans and thought through well. To break camp life up, we go on trips and hikes to some amazing places. From surfing lessons on the beautiful beaches of Santa Barbara, to Hiking up the mountains, to having a fun trip to Disney Land! Not one day of camp is boring, everything is new and changes. We learned the most important things in order to have a successful, happy, healthy life. You get assigned a personal coach that helps you with one on one sessions. You speak about things that worries you after camp. Such as temptations from bad foods. As well as learning meditation and mindfulness which helps teach and clear your mind to help you succeed with what you want. At the end of the day, if you an amazing summer that you'll never ever forget, and a summer that will completely change your life for the better, then Empowered Wellness is for you. This year with Empowered Wellness I witnessed the building of strong relationships and overall health Improvement. It was amazing seeing kids from all over the country come to Santa Barbara and learn great techniques from the instructors on everything from the Kitchen Ethics to Athletics. The participants appeared receptive to ideas from one another and routinely applied what they had learned in the classroom. These led up to keeping each other accountable. The instructors provided structure & were well equipped to deal with individual need and taste. The participants and instructor went on hikes, played Sports, played at the pools, cooked in the kitchen, and watch movies together; these fun events boosted participants towards their goals. Each day was packed with fun and educational events, it seemed like they started their days almost always at 7 a.m. Overall I love what empowered Wellness brings to the table in the health and wellness field. They focus not just on physical health but emotional health as well. Although unsure of the data, I'm certain there are very few programs that allows participants in this age range to feel comfortable and grow in a community that loves them and creates programs that help them grow in all aspects of their life You will be hard-pressed to find counselors and nurses with as much training experience and desire for success for their constituents. Truly there is no better location that would be better suited for program in sponsoring great weather, dorm-style Community Living, athletic fields close in proximity, hiking trails, cycling trails, and a secure environment. I have so much to say about Sophie's (age 14) camp experience at Empowered Wellness (here's the short version). It was the most amazing, life changing experience she has ever had. I feel incredibly grateful for the privilege of being able to give her this opportunity- all the counselors and kids who have supported and encouraged her the last 30 days were AMAZING! She begged to stay 2 more weeks, which was a surprise because she didn't even want to go for ONE -haha. She got to be a tech free kid, averaged 20k steps per day PLAYING outdoors (not working out) and enjoyed fresh whole foods while detoxing off processed foods and sugar. I can't tell you what it felt like to see a child who the world has beat up, torn down, and confused the heck out of her about what she is actually supposed to eat - finally be FREE. Though she did have a dramatic loss of weight, I would pay all I could afford for the SMILE she gave me when I picked her up from camp. She got to have a summer living next to the beach in a protected bubble of joy, praise, love, support, and happiness. From the moment I saw her she was radiating confidence and health. I didn't know what to expect when we dropped her off, it was a brand new camp with no reviews online, so I'm taking the time to write from the heart to inspire other parents to give the amazing gift of Empowered Wellness to their children. Eliza Kingsford is hands down the most genuine, caring, honest educator I have ever met. I have personally been through my share of weight loss philosophies, and every word the woman spoke at the parents seminar spoke truth to my core. Having never ever sent a child to camp before, I would rank myself as a bit of a control freak mom (haha) but Eliza (and her staff) eased me through the process - had I had truly understood what would be waiting for me at the end I would have trusted the process so much more. If it tells you anything, we are actually preparing to save up now so that our daughter (at any size) may return next summer. The friends she made will be with her for a lifetime - it was so hard to see them say goodbye. Hi, I'm Beverly Bolen. I'm 14, and I attended Empowered Wellness last summer and this summer, i'm coming back as a mentor to help other kids have the best expierence possible. Empowered Wellness taught me so much about myself. EW does a fantastic job of incorporating fun into weight loss and a healthier lifestyle. You are always playing fun games on the feild like tag, football, soccor- and more! You can get competive and EW doesn't require super atheltic kids. My 17 y/o son attended empowered wellness last summer and it truly transformed him in so many ways! Besides struggling with weight, my son has Asperger's syndrome. Tweens and Teens are all about taking control of their own decisions. This program empowers them with knowledge, understanding and real life experiences to learn why what they eat, how they exercise, how they deal with stress and the rest they get all significantly impact their ability to perform in school, have healthy relationships, etc. Their own wellness is the foundation for their wellness with others. Our wonderful son was bullied for years and found it difficult to control his weight due to a severe lack of confidence; as a direct result of bullying. My daughter attended the 6 week summer program with Empowered Wellness in Santa Barbara. It proved to be valuable for her (and our family) for so many reasons - limited screen time, individual and group therapy sessions, lots of time out of doors, interaction with kids from all over the world, development life-long friendships, opportunity to work on and get to know herself, plus engaging rewards campers can earn (surfing!), to name a few. I am impressed with what she has brought home with her in terms of confidence, independence, energy level, and the numerous camp stories! We sought out Empowered Wellness for our daughter to better develop her over-all health and fitness (rather than weight-loss, which is an added benefit). The staff were engaging and thoughtful while holding the kids accountable and challenging them appropriately. I felt that she was in excellent hands and never worried about her well-being or safety.
