So I get it. This place is supposed to be like a "Dick's". But it's just bad. We went on a two week long road trip of Colorado and this place had the worst service and more importantly, the worst beer. We went in one night and my sisters liked it, but they drink weak beer. I got an IPA, I am from Texas and a big craft beer drinker. I had high expectations based on the reviews. My beer tasted like a crappy watered down beer at a B rated bar in the middle of a big craft beer city. My $7 IPA tasted like a watered down Harp. I specify this bc Colorado is amazing with craft beer, in however small a city you go to. In my opinion, this was a huge let down. But my sisters enjoyed their Amber so I was happy. I should note that they did try to ask what beer was recommended and were told "the Beer's are on the board" and nothing else. We went back the next night. My husband and I ordered a beer and sat down. I ordered the amber, that my sisters were happy with the night before. It was still watery and did not taste like a craft beer, IMO, but I did not complain at the time. My sisters and my dad come in 5 mins later. The bar is not busy (on 4th of July in a town with a parade that brings hundreds of people) and maybe that should've been a sign. "Mr. Grumpy" looks at both of my sisters (who both came in right after us w no line) and serves at least three or four other parties who came in after them. I mean he was so obvious it was embarrassing. It was incredibly awkward and unprofessional. My family generally tips well and would have been super generous to find a place to drink on the 4th but he was so rude! Since we had already been there, he knew we were together. He literally made eye contact and moved on to the next person. At least three times. So awkward. We left half a beer and went across the street. Five people in my family never got served in a bar with probably 12 people in it. Ouray is an amazing place. Everyone is so nice. We went across the street to an Irish pub and they went out of their way (on July 4th) to make sure we could sit together and that we enjoyed the beer, etc. Mr grumpy is beyond grumpy, he's just plain rude and has no pride in his work or his product. Which is whatever, but as an avid beer drinker, I'm sorry but both times this beer was just bad. Every town has their shitty watered down beer bar and this is Ouray's. The Ouray brewery down the street with the upstairs outdoor patio has significantly better beer and service! Don't waste your time with this guy, he definitely doesn't care to spend his on you. read more

Great beer and a great atmosphere. At first Mr. Grumpy Pants can be off putting, but after hanging out for a little while, the guy is absolutely hilarious in a monotone sort of way. A gentleman in our party eventually got him to crack and laugh a bit, but it was short lived. So, just sit back and enjoy a good smoked brown ale while viewing the most sarcastic wall art in Ouray. read more

I gave two stars for the odd decor, which I actually appreciate. however, such oddities don't make up for the rest of the experience. the "grumpy" man behind the bar's namesake has truly created an uninviting experience. the grumpiness was hostile, and not in a fun way. all that could be ignored by paying customers, except for the fact that the beer tastes like hoppy water. there's a "no tasting" policy in place, most likely because you'll quickly find out the beers lack any flavor or body. we gulped down what we could, leaving 2/3rds of our beers behind in favor of getting the heck out of there. there are way better breweries in literally the rest of Colorado. read more

I somewhat seeked out this spot since I was in the mood for an off-the-beaten-path kind of place (which pretty much everywhere in Ouray can be....but it's obvious that most of us are not from here!) Anyhow, I discovered its in a new location...and after a 10$ glass of wine down the street I decided to find a good beer. I did just that. I appreciated the diveyness (sp?) and found the owner somewhat charming in a down to earth kind of way. I think he may have even gotten a kick out of my 4 year old son who eventually peeked in with my husband (but this is not a kid place) We even returned for a burger next door at Maggie's and were able to bring our pint of grumpy beer there! I will definitely return to Mr. Grumpy Pants but am hoping it stays its small town self when I do! read more

This place is so strange! Yeah the guy does the grumpy thing as some people mentioned. The "atmosphere" people describe is more "quirky redneck" than "cool ambiance", but it's not offensive (well...I could do without the pole dancing barbies I suppose). But what really got me was there were 2 beers: blond or brown. We ordered brown. And then the guy spends the next 10 minutes slowly pouring beer, scooping off the head, pouring more, scooping more foam, letting the foam settle into beer, pouring it back into the glasses...it was the most bizarre thing I've seen. If the keg is tapped just let me know. We sit down to have our beers and I'm ready to have one sip and go, but the smoked brown ale was actually really good! So we stayed and are drinking it as I post this review. I won't be back. But I will definitely tell this story to other people. I guess I would say - you've gotta go once just to see the craziness. read more

Worst brewery ever! When I walked in the bartender who I believe to be the owner was a huge tool. He rolled his eyes at me as if I showed up to his home unannounced or something. When I asked about some of the beers I got one word answers or indecipherable groans. I asked for a sample of one of the IPAs he sighs and gives me maybe about 5ml, just enough to make the bottom of the glass wet. I should have left at that point but I was thirsty for a beer after a long day of vacationing in the area. I went ahead and ordered one and after he poured it he said, "you need to drink this outside on the patio, I don't want kids in here" as he gestures to my son who was sitting very quietly in a chair that was in the corner. Given his act I'd expect some really awesome beer, but the beer I had was just ok. It was like something a novice extract brewer could be proud of. It was clean and no flaws but nothing to get excited about. I guess it's his shtick to act like jackass given the name of the brewery and he's really good at it. The one man show on Main Street is definitely worth the visit if you love microbrew beer. If you are from Texas, you won't find Bud or Lonestar, but you will find your taste buds. My wife and I had the stout and it was rich and smooth. Awesome after a day of hiking. read more
