The name said it all so true lol. Beer was ok, we chose to drink our beer outside opposed to inside and we ate our burgers outside because Maggie's and Mr. grumpy share a outdoor patio deck . It's yeah like you're walking back in time when you go in there. Sounds like Mr. grumpy makes his own beer, which is cool. Could be a fun place with a couple of friends I hear hours are very erratic

Nasty IPA, skip this awful brewery.

One star is generous.....Living up to the name, this bartender was just plain grumpy and unfriendly. Seriously, after visiting Ouray Brewery - and it was packed, we wanted to chill. Walking in, there was 2, yes two patrons. Locals and I suppose the bartenders buddies. He ignored us for about five minutes, while texting and chatting about his dog to the 2, yes two patrons. We ordered two IPAs. $19 and some change. We were served some nasty turpentine. Never in my beer IPA journey have I had such a worst, nasty, foul tasting beer. I am not sure what the deal is, but this place sucks, their beer sucks and the service sucks. I posted a pic of the supposed IPA, look at the color.... Does that seem like an IPA? We choked down half and dumped the rest in the flower bed out front, I hope it didn't kill the flowers.......Skip it and go to Ouray Brewery.

They are connected by a common porch to Maggie's kitchen. They are very careful on whether you are of age to get past the door. I had the mom size beer, draft pour and known as very hoppy. It was and I really liked it. We sat on the porch in the shade.

Grump sign. Not so good beer.

Came here expecting to sit at the bar and enjoy my burger that I just bought at Maggie's next door. For some odd reason Grumpy was only letting his friends (or select customers) sit inside. Must've been friends since there was only one guy inside besides him. Once informed I couldn't come inside, I sat outside with what they called an IPA. Meh. Not very good at all. And on the warm side. I guess I'm the grumpy pants now? At least my Burger from Maggie's was awesome.

The beer is good, the guy is fun, gotta a smile or two outta of him. The place is a fun place to people watch. Nice outside porch.

This was the second time I visited. The first doesn't count since I ran out of time and didn't sample any of the beers. For some reason, the owner, Hutch, wasn't in a very grumpy mood. His arm was in a sling from a rotator cuff injury, but he was in extremely high spirits. I felt a bit cheated because I expected sarcasm and vitriol and instead here was this super nice guy. He even served up water to a customer, which he doesn't normally do. The beer I tried, Golden ale, was under carbonated. It barely had a head or any bubbles. If it had been carbonated it would have been a pretty good representation of this style. My brother-in-law, Juan, had the pale ale, which he rated as average. There are an assortment of pour sizes, but Hutch will default to the 16 ounce, if you don't specify a size. For ambiance I give five stars. The quotes on the wall are funny, and he has a huge number of photos of smiling women doing splits on top of his bar. He also has a varied assortment of off color posters and decorations around the place. It is a small bar, but you can sit on the patio and people watch. So I give 1 star for non-grumpy attitude, 3 stars for non-carbonated beer, and 5 stars for ambiance. This averages out to 3 total stars. I want to try this place again, maybe he will have the carbonation dialed in.

We walked in, I ordered a beer, my wife a wine. "We don't serve any wine here!" hollered the old guy behind the bar. "This is a brewery, not a vineyard!" I assume this was Mr. Grumpy Pants himself. My wife waited impatiently for me to finish my beer, and then we left because she was only thirsty for wine.

Really enjoyed enjoyed the amber brew. Went perfect with the burger from next door. The decor is fun, it fits the town perfectly. Plan on grabbing a beer or two and having a burger on the porch. Perfect for people watching, killing time or just relaxing. The owner / bartender lives up to the name, but he makes a great pour :)

great place to chill after a day of climbing

One of my favorite spots to hang out in Ouray. Great selection of beer, and even better ambiance. It's a "must" if you're ever in Ouray!

Mr Grumpypants was not a crusty kind of cute. He was downright rude. We left without ordering anything.

July 18, 2026 - Montrose, CO…read more The dog-friendly outdoor patio first caught our eye, and then the name--Horsefly Brewing Company--along with its great reviews convinced us to stop for lunch. We're so glad we did! The patio is spacious and comfortable, with several seating areas that give it a relaxed atmosphere. Our server was friendly and attentive, and his recommendation of the Flatlander Chicken Sandwich ($15.99) was spot on. Since my husband and I often split meals, we ordered one sandwich to share. To our surprise, it arrived already divided onto two separate plates--a thoughtful touch that's becoming all too rare. That kind of service definitely earns extra points. The sandwich was delicious, with grilled chicken breast, guacamole, bacon, pepper jack cheese, and chipotle mayo, served with perfectly cooked crispy fries. I ordered an iced tea but couldn't resist trying a sample of their seasonal Peach Ale. It was so good that I ended up ordering a small glass. I'm not usually much of a beer drinker, but this one was outstanding. I only wish they sold it in cans so I could have taken some home! Before we left, my husband picked up a couple of cans of his favorite beers and a Horsefly T-shirt. Great food, excellent service, tasty beer, and a welcoming dog-friendly patio made this a memorable stop. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in the area.

For drinks we ordered dirty martinis. They were filled to the rim which was nice but could have been colder. The menu looked great. We went with burgers. We ordered the Smokehouse burger medium rare with cheddar, house bbq, crispy onions, bacon plus all the toppings. It was cooked perfectly. It came with a spicy slaw. So delicious. We also ordered the Truffle mushroom burger medium with a mixture of cremini, oyster, shiitake mushrooms plus Swiss cheese and truffle aioli plus all the toppings. It was cooked perfectly medium. It also came with the delicious slaw. The buns were a bit big but at least they were soft and delicious. The dessert. So tasty. Honestly $27 is pricy for a burger but it was very good. We would come back to Smuggler union try other menu items next time we return to Telluride.

Instead of being welcomed, we were immediately interrogated by the woman at the front, then questioned again by the bartender. We were seated and left sitting there for 30 minutes without a single person taking our order or offering service. Our waitress even apologized and admitted she "hates that she can't help us," making it obvious the staff had intentionally decided not to serve us. Throughout the entire time, my service dog was exactly where a service dog should be--quietly lying under the table at my feet, causing absolutely no disruption. After waiting half an hour, I finally asked if we were ever going to be served. That's when we were told the issue was my service dog. When I questioned this, the bartender's response was to tell me I "didn't need an attitude." I've written maybe five Yelp reviews in my life, but this experience deserves to be shared. The way we were treated was humiliating, discriminatory, and completely unacceptable. It felt like we were being singled out simply because I have a disability and rely on a service animal. All six of us got up and left because of how we were treated. Small businesses deserve support when they treat people with respect. This business did the opposite. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone, and I sincerely hope no one else has to experience the kind of discrimination we did.
