Really glad that Dunderbak's moved to this new location. It's definitely a lively restaurant experience. There is a long bar with tables for two to three people each in the restaurant area. The shop in front sells a variety of German goodies, including meats, cheeses, sausages, candies, condiments, and more. We've sat in the dining area roughly three times so far and have enjoyed each visit. Service has been great during the late afternoon and evening. Lunch can sometimes be hit or miss because it tends to be busy. The sandwiches are delicious, and you really can't go wrong with any of them. I also highly recommend ordering the mini potato pancakes. They're almost like big tater tots! They're always freshly made and are one of the best items on the menu. For dessert, the German chocolate cake or Black Forest torte would have to be my top choices. There is also an interesting variety of beers available in both the restaurant and takeaway area, whether you want to enjoy one there or take some home. The condiments and sausages are comparable in quality to Schaller & Weber. This location of Dunderbak's reminds us a lot of the German restaurant Hollerbach's in Sanford, which is a nice comparison.

The new location of Mr. Dunderbak's did not disappoint! The seating area is larger, and it was filling up fast today at lunchtime. The staff are helpful, answering our questions about the extensive menu. We ordered a New Yorker and a Black Russian, both with German potato salad. They were delicious, we took home half a sandwich each. We also got a German chocolate cake and a Black Forest Torte to take home for later. They look delicious- will let you know!

I'm so excited Mr. Dunderbak opened on Beach Street! My first experience with them was at the Volusia Mall location because it was right across from H&M. I walked in with no idea what this place was and immediately felt like I had stepped into Germany. The funny part? It was packed. Now having this location closer to the beach is dangerous because I can easily stop for a Reuben sandwich, or some goodies before heading to the beach or on my way home. The vibe is amazing. As soon as you walk in, you pass the deli and it feels like you're somewhere in Germany. The new location looks just like the mall one, which I love. I met the owner Matt and he was incredibly nice, and you can tell they really care about this place . They have a great selection of wine, cute merch, delicious treats, and the witty signs everywhere had me laughing. Such a unique addition to Beach Street.

Visited Mr. Dunderbacks when they were at the mall and so happy to see them at their new location. This is our second time back within three days. Service has been friendly. There is such a large selection of beer and ciders - I personally prefer a cider and have not been disappointed with any of my choices yet. So far, we have had a schnitzel with pretzel German nachos, and we have been pleased with everything.

I loved my Cajun Dutchman that was recommended by the waitress! The wartsteiner beer was very good! I have to admit I didn't like their pretzel and potato pancakes. The pretzel wasn't fresh and the cheese was out of a refrigerator. The potato was like any tater tart I would cook at home. That sandwich and beer was definitely worth it! The place was packed and the staff took care of us. Although I didn't ask for the bill but she brought it anyway. I hate when they do that. To summarize I live German food and this place is great. They still have to work the kinks out I think. Not having one tv wasn't good as I wanted to see a football game. I hope management adjusts to our constructive criticism.

This restaurant has been at the mall for 50yrs. The original owner sold it and the new owners moved it to Beach street. It is closer to their offices and it allows the bar to stay open later than the mall. Beach street is being revitalized as a great night spot for Daytona. This puts the restaurant and bar in the heart of it. The staff is the same so it is great to see the crew and be greeted when we walk in. The menu looks different but has most of the old favorites. Today is the first week of opening and they are packed. So glad to see the support for this icon of Daytona Beach. The beer garden vibe is still here and the beer selection they are famous for is still on tap. They brought over the bar stools and several of the old tables but also have some bigger ones as well. The grocery store area is very small. I hope they bring it all back as it always had some unique items to buy. The deli service for cold cuts is still available upfront. They are still dealing with several changes so give them some time. The food was just as good as always so well worth it.

And the "other" wine bar in Ormond Beach doesn't even have bread in the restaurant. The crostini were freshly made, with a touch of garlic. The crab dip was delicious and had lumps of crab in it. Very filling. This wine bar has a lot of European and South American wines, not just CA. And the woman working there was pretty knowledgeable. She also encourage us to taste the wines before committing to a glass, which was appreciated since most glasses are $15+. We both got red blends and they were both good. The atmosphere is very laid back, not pretentious. There are clear signs that everyone is welcome here, straight, gay or otherwise. the couches are beckoning, and the conversation pits are well set up. We were here right after opening, around 5pm. And at first it was empty but that didn't make us feel awkward because the staff were attentive without being intimidating. They were very welcoming. We left saying we willl go back when we have more time and appetite and try sitting at a couch instead of the bar.

There was almost no one in the place, yet we had to go to the bar after about 5 minutes to get seated. The bartender was also the server, and I got the idea also the owner. She never slowed down, to the point that you could not ask questions or get additional items. The atmosphere was very rushed. My wife ordered the shrimp and scallops and I ordered the bolonese. When our food arrived, the scallops were the tiny bay scallops that are not even a full bite. She was pretty dissapointed in this but it didn't say sea scallops so she didn't say anything. The bolonese was TERRIBLE. It was advertised as having meat sauce, there was no meat, it was not creamy at all.It taste just like hunts canned spaghetti sauce with nothing added. When I told the server it was not good, she snatched it off the table and took it to the back. No apology, didn't ask if I wanted anything else, just took it away. The cook did come out to ask what was wrong, when I said it taste like a can, he had no response, only asked if I wanted something else. I had to eat so I ordered the burger with fries. This came out fine, a little undercooked, but that is sometimes what you get when you order a medium burger. The fries were crispy and well seasoned. This is supposed to be a French place, there are very little French dishes, a lot of Italian dishes, and a decent burger. THis is not a place I would return to.

Let me start with this: I do not like wine…read more I've tried for years. I've ordered it at dinners, events, girls' nights... and I've rarely even been able to finish a glass. That's how much I typically dislike the taste. My preference? Sweet and fruity. Think Jolly Rancher candy. The only exception I've ever found was Ice Wine, which is rarely carried in restaurants or wine bars. So when we attended a work event here, I was honestly looking forward to the company more than the drinks. But I decided to be honest with our waitress. I told her I don't like dry wine, I prefer sweet, and asked if she had any recommendations. She introduced me to Sangue Di Giuda (Italy -- fruity, light, medium sweet, low alcohol)... and for the first time ever, I found a wine I genuinely enjoyed. I could actually sip it without making a face. At around $8 a glass, it felt very reasonable. They also offer full bottles for purchase, which I love as an option if you find something you enjoy. Beyond the wine, the atmosphere makes this place special. It's warm, relaxed, and perfect for conversation. It feels elevated without being stuffy -- the kind of place where you can linger and talk without feeling rushed. So this review is for two groups: * Wine lovers looking for a great experience * And the "I don't like wine but I'm here anyway" crowd Be honest about what you like. Let the staff guide you. You might surprise yourself like I did. We'll absolutely be back -- and yes, I'll be ordering the same glass again. Bonus: It's located in a plaza with great dinner options, so you can easily turn it into a full night out. We grabbed Greek food next door afterwards, and there's also Bronx House pizza at the end of the plaza if that's more your vibe (both are delicious!). Makes planning easy.

This place has a nice vibe and the owners are really dedicated from what I could see. They are opening a patio with a larger menu and getting a liquor license, hopefully by summer. Tucked away on the first floor of the Fountain Square plaza, we enjoyed the friendly clientele and the reasonably priced wine and beer. House wines for only $6 per glass, but we noticed a few couples purchasing bottles to save a few bucks. They are off to a good start! Just the Sampler was all fried (which we knew) and was served with no plastic cutlery and only one napkin for 2 people, no salt and pepper until requested. The cold cheese dip was good but could have been warmed and more plentiful. Maybe a salsa side would have worked too. Ranch, anyone? Everything was nicely cooked and served hot. The beef empanada was seasoned really nicely and the filling seemed to have peppers and onions. The chicken one seemed to be all breast meat as the filling. Better than all fillers, but some more seasoning would have been good. The yucca fries were nicely done and there were 3 types. One was a cheese bite that could have been crispier but had a nice flavor. We will come back, probably when the patio opens and the menu expands. After all, what is a speakeasy without a highball?

This establishment disrespects those who know what a genuine German/Bavarian biergarden/brauhaus…read moreshould be. A big menu has good amount of German-style fare. Had 2 sausages which were good but cold inside. Deep fried mushrooms were ok, from a bag. Red cabbage from a jar served in a plastic sample cup. German potato salad was good but also served in a sample cup! These are a joke. Two slices of bread served with two tiny bits of butter. Wrong beer was brought to me, but I didn't say anything as it was a good beer. The list of beers included only 4 of 24 beers being Bavarian. The rest were whatever. The barstools were coming apart. Too much stock in the dining room trying to pass as decor. Other decor was mostly garage-type metal signs and none were German/Bavarian and there was way, way too many. The ceiling was entirely covered by a long outdoor awning which was yellow, red and white. If they were trying to look German, they failed as these colors are of North Ossetia-Alania, Russia! The scalloping up top looked silly and obviously misused. (a reversed awning) Woman who helped us was nice; the staff walks around with rested-B-face. Guys in the kitchen YELL OUT the names of the waiters when the food is ready similar to Denny's. Place has NO ambiance of Bavaria at all. Music on low fidelity speakers playing current music. Go for the menu and choice of 4 German beers. You wont feel a Oktoberfest-Bavarian vibe at all. Some dudes wanted to create a German-Style joint, problem, place didn't feel German...at all! If you are only interested in the money, great, if you want to make it a nice Bavarian experience, that's not gonna happen. Owners see pics...
