Mom's night out soap making class

This space is like a little mini esty co op. Mr. B's share the space with two other vendors. One sells air plants and ways to to sell them and the other bags, jewelry and even has a section to stamp your own leather tags. Mr. B's body products and candles in particular are quickly becoming my go to gift when I don't know what to get. They are beautiful, smell amazing and natural. Who wouldn't love something so special? I also especially love putting my money back into local companies and if it can go into Oceanside's tax base in particular I feel like I can give myself another little pat on my back. Last night a friend organized a candle making class at the shop after a girl's dinner down the street. We showed up, some already thoroughly having a good time and Shem took our jokes and silliness in stride and even allowed us to bring treats inside for the occasion. He is very calm and easy going and quickly everyone was distracted with the process of scent blending. I love that he gave us the opportunity to find a scent that we really loved and also gave us tips and help while still respecting our scent choices even if we wanted to break the basic scent rules (ahem, guilty). He let us use his machines and equipment, gave us the websites to buy all the products if we want to do this ourselves at home and even told us what is in his current candles! I picked up myself a bar of charcoal soap while I was there and o may just have to get some of that rose toner when I go back to get my finished candle. It just smells so heavenly.

Fantastic boutique, soap, candle shop. Mr. B's Necessities have recently moved from Del Mar to Oceanside on South Coast 101. Today some friends and I took a soap making class. Shem, the owner and instructor, lead us in some soap making. We made two batches in this hands-on class. Shem provided directions and a list of sources for the soap making ingredients. He was super chill through his demonstration and allowed us to add ingredients and stir the pot. I really appreciated the clear instructions and the openness to answer questions. I feel ready to make my own soap with one of my friends. I have taken other soap making classes, although they were good the process was much more difficult and scary following their methods. Shem took away any fear, confusion, and doubt for me. The store is really awesome looking. There are beautiful succulents, plants, and cacti placed in various areas of the boutique. On one table there are do-it-yourself leather stamping. In another area bags, wraps for planter pots, and leather goods. Not to mention their cool wall of soaps, candles, and airplants in great wooden boxes and wall planters. Mr. B's offers beautifully handcrafted rings and other jewelry. I look forward to going there soon and hope that you will take a peek inside.

Crafting essential oil soy candles

I attended Mr. B's candle making class that was hosted by Julia. Coming here to make soy essential oil candles was the first time I stepped inside Mr. B's. I love firstly, that they chose Oceanside to be their businesses home. It's a shop that looks like it should be in North Park or in Little Italy. It's quaint and one of the owners are always there. The shop has multiple owners that occupy certain areas within the shop. So it's a little like the Leaping Lotus in that sense. The soy essential oils class was incredible! We had all the supplies ready and waiting for us. For our essential oil mix or single pick they had a chart of good blends. What ones work well together but they don't make you feel like that's your only choices. Out of about 20 scents I chose peppermint and eucalyptus. Calming and refreshing! We then pour hot soy wax in our jar and it stays at the shop until it solidifies. It was such a fun class to take!! They were so helpful with useful information and are definitely passionate about what they do. Beautiful shop and lovely products and people running this joint.

Shem is awesome! I've done two candle making classes at Mr. B's and I can't wait to come in for a soap making class! He's a great teacher and makes the classes super fun! Just had a ladies night party at Mr. B's and the girls all loved it!! Thanks Shem!!!

If you love to support local businesses, this is your jam. I immediately fell in love with the unique gifts and natural vibe of Mr. B's. The time we spent with the business owner really showed me the value in supporting businesses that are owned by someone super passionate about the product. Shem told us the story of how he started candlemaking. He began at home and gave candles as gifts to friends. Their popularity gave him the idea to open up his own storefront. They have been in this up-and-coming area of Oceanside for a couple of years and are right next to other local businesses. The store is a combination of Shem's creations, including soaps and candles deodorants and other organic products. He also invites other local artists to display their work. When we visited there was an artist that makes leather items into purses and jewelry. Another collection focused on products made from natural items such as tree trunks made into home decorations and jewelry. All I can say is you have to visit understand how eclectic, yet homey, the store is. I was so excited when Julia organized a candlemaking class at the store. Our class lasted about an hour and Shem covered the basics of candlemaking. We placed a wick in the mason jar and learned about essential oils. We had a quick crash course on basics of blending oils. You mix your recipe in a small batch before you chose your final scents for the candle. I choose grapefruit and peppermint, which sounds like a unusual combination. I'm pretty boring when it comes to scents and tastes, so this was exotic for me! However, the peppermint blends perfectly with the citrus and neither one overpowers. We then poured the oils and mixed the scents with soy candle wax. The candles have to sit for a day and then you come back to pick up your treasure. This is a great store if you're looking for a gift for a friend or are feeling crafty. Thanks for organizing such a great time for the yelpers!
